It has occured to me that we spend most of our time reading, writing, and bitching about the bad things that happen.

So, lets change that.

A little GOOD news for a change.

If you find something that is good, makes things seem a little less horrible, or just gives you a reason to get up in the morning..

Maybe post it here?

I'll start.

(And, for the folks with slow interwebs access, Ill put a link to the story.)

MINCINGBEAST

This is not good, and not news.

His voice is phony and dated.

His success will not last long. Now that dude has money to spend on drugs, and a nice safe place to do lots of drugs, he will do lots of drugs. He already has lots of experience ruining his life.

Ex-wives, abused children and ex-lovers are bound to come crawling out of the gutters to provide the public with lurid details about this old man.

He's taking good work away from younger, more deserving people attempting to establish themselves in the business.

Wow, thanks Minc!

This is one of the first times I've been trolled!

Appreciate the effort!

It must have taken you a few minutes to write up this post. Thanks!

But, at least in this thread, trying to keep it positive..

and your attempt at narcissistic pandering is exactly what I would LIKE this thread to be against.

Good try tho.

Man, you're a prophet! Word is, he's got NINE kids, and would mooch from all of them, before dropping out of rehab and off the face of the Earth.

But hey, I posted this story yesterday morning, when it broke. Now ? I hope he makes something w/ the chance he's been given. I really do.

It is a GOOD news story, but like all storys it'll fade away. I hope he finds a good paying gig at some radio station and he can take care of himself. I heard his voice on the radio today , it's fine but I don't think Rush, Howard or Sean have anything to worry about.

Its a second chance, more than most of us have seen. What he does with it is on him.

Yeah, it will fade away.

But, we can always keep posting stories, news, and ideas.

I will try at least.

Good for you, Wulf, for looking at positive stories.

They don't have a lot, but I like the stories here:

That Egyptian Muslim story made me cry. Thank you Wulf.

Here is something positive and incredible.

eg?pg=2&sid=e30178249439#newscomments

Quote:

Surgeons in China saved a little girl's hand - by grafting it on to her leg for three months.

Nine-year-old Ming Li lost her hand when she was run over by a tractor on her way to school in July.

But her arm was too badly damaged to reattach it to her wrist so doctors temporarily attached it to her right calf instead.

Dr Hou Jianxi, spokesman for the hospital in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, said the hand had now been transplanted back on to her arm.

"When she came in, her left hand was completely severed from her body. It was very scary," he told the Zhoukou Evening Post.

"But Ming Li can now move her wrist again and her left hand is a healthy pink colour proving that the blood is circulating well."

Li will need two more operations over the next year. One to improve her hand functions and some plastic surgery to remove her scars.

But Dr Hou said: "After surgery, and with plenty of physiotherapy, we are confident her left hand will be capable of doing most things.

"We can't give a precise percentage of how much movement she will get back but she should be able to look after herself and even drive a car."

Yeah, been hearing about the Williams story. Neat, in my opinion, and I find that voice, coming out of that face/body, amazing. Apparently now he's recorded a commercial for Kraft, voiced an MSNBC promo and is even being pursued by the Cleveland Cavaliers to do announcing work. Nice when a spotlight on someone having a rough time does some good, but I hope it wears off quickly and he gets the chance to get out of the spotlight, lest the stress get him back into the same problems.

Fox, of course, wouldn't touch him; after all, he's been a bum sucking off the government's tit. Couldn't resist.

By the bye, Wulf; if you hadn't noticed, I DO put up positive stories periodically. They don't get much attention most of the time.

Actually...

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/01/07/nagging-questions-ted-willia
ms-saga
/

Now their point was its wrong to highlight someone "winning the powerball" of human kindness, when so many are suffering...

"Why come to grips with a big, messy social problem like homelessness?

So much easier — isn’t it? — to shower job offers, cash payments and network-TV time on one homeless guy who happens to have a really nice voice?

This is perfect: the low-cost, feel-good way of addressing America’s nagging ills, just in time for the small-government Tea Party era in Congress."

but, you do have a point. Sometimes.

Still.

Its good to see someone who cleaned themselves up, who held on to hope, get an almost miraculous second chance.

Keep the good news coming folks.

Yes, it is good news, Wulf, and you're forgetting something: You guys always talk about INDIVIDUALS stepping up to help those in need rather than expecting the government to do so. Well, individuals and companies DID step up, so if you believe what you write, then you have nothing to complain about, in fact you should be pleased he no longer has to look to the government for a "handout".

Yes, also, it's pretty funny and absurd that all this came his way when so many others are ignored. It's just like the "Octamom": when people get attention, sometimes things happen. People in America are pretty generous; it's one of the things other nations DO notice about us. Bumbling, naive and many other things, but most people from other nations will also (albeit perhaps grudgingly) admit we're very generous--not just as a nation, but as individuals. The problem is, when it comes to stuff like this, it has to be brought to our ATTENTION, and only unusual stories are It's a shame we can't get the attention of people for more who need help, but that's just the way it is.

One has to think about it and go out of their way to help on an individual basis, like contributing to a charity which provides for the poor, and there's the other thing to take into account in that it doesn't feel as PERSONAL to contribute as it does to help one individual.

But both points are well taken; it's good that he's gotten opportunities he didn't have and it's a shame we can't organize somehow to do that for more people without government help.

ETA: After reading the Fox story, I come away with the impression of cyincism that takes the second point, blows it up and spews it out. It's a valid point, but the article says it in an ugly fashion. They could have bothered to address the issue in a valid way, rather than writing nothing but a simple snark--which is what that article is.

Along those lines, try these, which highlight some more positive stuff and MIGHT actually make an impression of a more valid nature:

beyond-ted-williams-a-community-with-few-second-chances

They bring facts about homelessness to the story and mention people and groups who are working to solve the situation, rather than just grousing about the attention Williams got. Do you see the difference?

It's an example of why I dislike Fox; they bitch and moan, but don't DO anything or encourage anything in the way of change or improvement. We may not like Olbermann, but look what he used his platform to bring about free health clinics around the country; what has Fox done to contribute positively in ANY way? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have been involved in a LOT of things they've brought to light, encouraged or taken action on, as have others who have the media's attention.

I would like to know anything Fox may have actually taken action on, because I doubt it's very much. If there isn't money or ratings in it for THEM, I doubt they pay much attention.
