Besides, you're acting like he started the conversation under intellectually honest terms. He didn't.

Well, sure, blanket statements are generally not easy to substantiate, and most people, speaking off the cuff, aren't going to bother to back up generalizations they make unless they're called on it. Titling a thread "(All) Liberals are intolerant!" is an easily disproven statement, as easily as the statement "(All) Conservatives are intolerant!"

But if only some liberals are intolerant, maybe that's a conversation Wulf can have, and maybe he has examples. The thread title here does not automatically suggest intellectual dishonesty, or that he didn't have any intention at the time of posting examples.

Look, what I'm saying is, if it's a really a conversation you want to have, then my view is he's probably not going to talk to you. It could be he's avoiding the conversation himself, but it could be the method of approach here too. Sig was civil, but if everyone else is snarking, it might seem like a trap, you know? This IS the internet, and I can see how someone who didn't care what people thought of him, why he might just walk away instead.

"Well, anyway Wulf, ignore the other posts for now. Just want you to know I'm still interested in hearing what you have to say."

Thanks Sig, I was actually considering the whole taking it offline (or at least offboard) thing.

It seems I can't even utter the word "the" around here before the sharks start circling.

Oh and for the those who were obviously so concerned about my well-being yesterday (lol yeah right) and as to why I wasn't on...

Food poisoning. Throwing up from both ends is not fun.

For now, I will add these last few days to the list of intolerance.

Why and how? Some crazy fucknut shoots up Arizona. Kills a bunch of peoplem shoots a representative, and a little girl. (Bt the way, do you think anyone would have cared if it wasn't a Congress person got hit? Another thread on that one maybe..)

Who do the libs blame? Palin, Glen Beck, and anyone who has every said anything against liberals and progs.

Also, what do they start calling for? Gun CONTROL. Speech CONTROL.

These past few days have cemented for me that libs do NOT know what it means to be American, and only wish to control people. They are more than happy and willing to dance in the blood of victims to push their agenda.

This, I cannot and will not, abide.

Hopefully after Obama's presentation last night we can all move beyond this stuff, and threads like this will have no place here anymore. Obama rightly called out those that were so quick to judge and blame, and he did it quite forcefully, leaving no doubt as to the meaning of the message. Let this post be the last one here, or at least no more of this "intolerance" finger-pointing felgercarb.

Well, looks like you found the thread again, and still couldn't muster the cojones to keep your word.

Sad little manchild.

We'll see.

To my mind tho, libs still have much to answer for.

(They will say the same about Cons.)

Im willing to let it be a new start. However, the minute they start trying to do things like enact gun-control, make Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn PC, restrict speech, control, manipulate, track the populace...

Well, lets just see if they can control themselves for a change.

Heya Wulf, intestinal flu... not fun! Sounds like the norovirus. It's a very contagious and durable little bug... the cruise ship virus.

Anyway, AFA this thread becoming unnecessary... a gentle reminder that this thread was not started by "intolerant libs". And reaching towards more civility does not mean shutting down discussion. It just means being more civil, and not throwing verbal bombs at each other. I promised to be as fair as I know how to be in this thread with an aim towards reaching an understanding of what Wulf is saying. Please note that I didn't say agreement, just understanding. But I can't do that if the conversation keeps shifting, and we haven't really hashed out a previous topic. So...

I'm trying to keep this conversation focused on two points: Why you think liberals are racist, and why you think liberals "push their points" on others about religion. So, to get back to why liberals are racist... I would still like to hear what liberals have done or said that makes you think that way.

Sympathies on the flu...yuck! Hope you're feeling better; thanx for coming back and making your point; and apologies for snarking that you wouldn't. Onward.

Yes, I found it interesting not only that a congressperson got so much news when people die like this daily and nobody pays any attention. I also found it VERY frustrating that we heard about her every move, when I was switching stations trying to find ANYTHING on even what the others wounded suffered from, how they were doing, etc., etc. Finally one returned to work, and that got press, but it angered me at how much we heard about Giffords and how little (if anything!) about the others.

As to it showing intolerance on the part of liberals, however, that's bullshit. More and more conservatives have been speaking up about the rhetoric AND about Palin in the past few days, so that kills your premise right out the door. And if you think it's JUST libs calling for limitation of the many-bullet magazine and restricting the damned Westboros to where they won't upset the mourners, you got your head on backwards. If you weren't so prejudiced, you'd have heard the other voices doing the same, far from all of them liberals.

Thus I reject your initial statement out of hand, and if you me need to, I can cite examples. Or maybe not, maybe I'll just make a flat statement without bothering to back it up. Seems to work for you.

In my opinion, PC remarks will be made all around (as they alread are) and nothing will change. It's the way of politics, and it will only enrage some of those who've been spewing "gun talk" even more, claiming the stifling of free speech just as you have. There are extremists in every crowd.

Aw, what the hell, it only takes a minute to find them. Regarding Edwards' upcoming funeral:
Quote:

Some Triangle conservatives say they will join the counter protests against Westboro Baptist Church, an anti-gay group that plans to picket Saturday's funeral service for Elizabeth Edwards.

Randy Dye, a local conservative blogger, said a coalition of local conservative groups will stand silently while holding American flags. Some members of the Patriot Guard, a group of bikers who sometimes help escort military funerals, are also expected.

"Though I did not agree with Ms. Edwards political views, she’s still an American and deserves a respectful funeral for her family and loved ones," Dye wrote on his Randy's Right blog. "Just because I disagree with someone, does not make them my enemy, just my opponent in life. We will not stand by and allow these monsters to disrespect Ms. Edwards life or her family. ... It is sad we have to do this during a funeral, but for evil to reign is when good women and men remain silent."

The conservatives will join other groups who said yesterday that they would be on hand to protest the Kansas based church, which is known for traveling the country to draw attention to themselves by disrupting military funerals and other events likely to be covered by the media.

You're forgetting, also, who called for the limitation of carrying a gun near a government official (which is silly on its face, for so many reasons):
Quote:

The chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security Peter King, New York Republican, announced today that he will introduce a bill that would ban knowingly carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials.

[Mayor Michael Bloomberg] and I have discussed that we are introducing in the next several weeks legislation which would make it a federal crime to carry a weapon within 1,000 feet of any event which is attended by the President, the Vice President, members of the Senate, members of the House of Representatives, Cabinet officials, including the CIA director as well as federal judges,” King announced this morning at City Hall in New York City

to-introduce-gun-control-legislation.html

There's just two to disprove your point: PEOPLE are reacting to the massacre; There are conservatives who want to limit the Westboro idiots, and a Republican is calling for a stricter gun law.

I think there have been times that shootings that don't involve anyone in congress that have attracted national attention. Thirty people at a university will have national news coverage for about a week, as will a couple of high profile single-issue suicides within short time of each other. A shooting at trolley square in Salt Lake City where five people died but the gunman was stopped garners a mention on the national level for one evening broadcast. Distasteful as it sounds, the duration of attention appears to be related to the body count, but also related to whether a message can be derived from the tragedy.

But yes, there also does tend to be a disproportionate reaction when a celebrity figure is involved.

EDIT: I find myself having a very mixed response to the ban on guns near high profile politicians, but my surface reaction is that's dumb and he's dumb (and possibly a coward) for suggesting it. I'll need some time to sort out further thoughts on that.

EDIT 2: I guess the main reason that bothers me is it suggests the man thinks he has something to fear from violent reprisal, which means he must think he's done something to deserve it. I don't have a very advanced sense of justice, being chaotic as opposed to lawful in my ethical alignment, nor do I have strong opinions either way in regards to vigilantism, but asking for special protections on account of his position in that case grates on me.

That is a pretty big list of federal employees. And a thousand ft is a good sized area. Take into account that a lot of rallies and assembles are within 1000ft of peoples homes. What does the homeowner do with his guns? And what makes these civil servants deserve more protection than the rest of us? Especially, when it is our right they are infringing upon.....for their safety.

No, I didn't say I thought it was in ANY way a bright idea; quite the opposite. As in: How does one identify a legislator in everyday life? And about a dozen other reasons it's a really stupid idea.

But it's REACTION. Reaction by people on both sides of the aisle, and no doubt in every other group as well. Fear has run our country ever since 9/11, in my opinion, and it's motivated some pretty absurd stuff. (I could say "like Sarah Palin" but I won't...oops, I did.) When people react emotionally, they ain't too bright.

And yes, Byte: "If it bleeds, it leads", and the more blood, the better. Always been the case, hasn't it? Sadly... And of course people in public life get more attention; dear heavens, if everyone got as much attention, there'd be no room for any news of ANY other kind in this country!

Nor do I believe it right for one group of people to deserve better protection than the rest of us, except of course the Prez and VP, who are bigger TARGETS than anyone else.

What bothered me was the extent, detail, and unending repetition of how Giffords was doing, moment by moment, while virtually NO mention of how the other people wounded even WERE wounded.

Although I admit, CNN and one of the network stations I was watching (rarely remember which one; as my dad would say: "Six of one, half a dozen of the other") put up pictures and spoke a little bit about each of the people killed. On the other hand, I don't think they did the same for those who had been WOUNDED....hmmm, I forget...
