DT already posted those videos on how American civilians ought to report other American civilians, how Americans ought to be suspicious of other Americans.

Here is the next step. American civilians enforcing the law on other American civilians.

SPEEDING motorists will soon be facing the short arm of the law as primary school pupils prepare to sign up for their own handheld speed cameras.

The Community Road Watch scheme, which is designed to put the skids on inconsiderate drivers in speeding hot-spots around the town, is being rolled out by Humberside Police next month and residents ranging from children to pensioners will be asked to take part to help clock repeat offenders in their neighbourhood.

Picture is worth a thousand words:

Yeah, CTTS, I bumped across something like that recently myself:
Quote:

The American government has tried to get American citizens to spy and report on each other. One program would include truck drivers, tollbooth workers, rest-stop employees, and construction crews for an army of 400,000 informants. Is this a good idea?

Results:

Yes, we must all help in the fight against terrorism - even if that means spying on and reporting on our neighbors. 25%

No. This only serves to breed mistrust among people and alienate us from one another. 70%

http://atheism.about.com/gi/pages/poll.htm?poll_id=3902838551&linkback=

That 25% is a pretty scary bunch, if you ask me! A SCARED bunch, admittedly, but also scary. Shows just how easy it is to scare people out of their civil rights and rights to privacy, if you work at it and do it well.

I should note, this is in the UK. So these speed cameras are not in the USA, yet. But I can just see it coming.

Sign of things to come.

There's an age old tradition to handling rats, squealers and informers of all kind, and yanno...

Some things, like say... toothpicks, in the fullness of time, are proven to be so perfect in their construction than no improvements can be made upon them.

What happens to snitches in dark alleys, is one of those things.

Consequence will not stop actions, largely because people are unaware of them, or stupid, and think they are immune.

Hello,

The potential for consequence is a deterrent for the majority of human beings.

A small percentage will do what they wish no matter what.

A small percentage will never do what they wish if they are told not to.

The rest (the majority) will do what they wish unless they believe there will be consequences.

This is the foundation of loss prevention.

Pardon me a Wulfism.

This sounds like Nightwatch. (From B5)

It doesn't matter. Some actions, if taken by one in a thousand have the same effect as if they were taken by all. This is why terrorism works, and it's why this stalinism works. Lukashenko enacted this about five years ago, after installing himself as permanent dictator of Belarus. I see that Obama decided to go for it early. (Oh, and that's not partisan, it's personal.)

That makes me want to watch B5.

I tried to Netflix it, but couldn't stand the first season. Could never continue after that. It apparently gets better?

Counter organize, and early, before the laws or policies even come into effect if you disagree with them. Force a court trial and try to get it stricken down.

And if that still doesn't work, at least you've organized and potentially can work on other resistance measures. Not nearly the number of people who snuck out of East Berlin to the West and not nearly the number of Jews who evaded capture in Nazi Germany could have down so without underground support.

Hello,

It gets much better. There's a story arc that begins to pick up steam in the final ep of Season 1. By the end of Season 3, you're ankle deep in plot. Season 4 is wall-to-wall wow.
