Well, when Whozit/Kaneman/lightbringer/bullshitartist does nothing but spam Firefly, I think it's handy to know which threads to avoid. I find it a convenience, and it sure beats being sent to troll country, which IMHO is fully warranted.

I'll agree that sometimes they delight in not adding anything of value to the conversation or even the board.

But it's entirely different to attack threads they've started where other people ARE having worthwhile conversations. If you do that, you're screwing over and attacking EVERYONE. They can be ignored. That can't.

And I personally thank you for the work you're putting in. I certainly am grateful for the job you do. When I come here, I want to learn stuff and see discussions about the things happening in this world. So anytime somebody can point out to me that "this is a topic filled with something I'm not interested in reading", I consider that very helpful. Something I wish we had (is it on 2.0 for those using it?) is a feature that showed who originally posted a topic. That way, I can see who posted and know what sort of content it will contain within.

If Haken puts in a thread posted by notice, it'll solve this problem for everyone. In the mean time, if you enter a thread posted by someone you don't like, back out of it, or you could try asking Anthony about the filter program he used. Much better options.

That's pretty appalling. Every once in a while socialists stop by to remind us that they really do want to silence all political opinions that disagree with their own.

Or, to be fair, maybe you've not been paying full attention. All threads of right wing interest or with a right wing slant were silenced, such as those which reference Ron Paul, or libertarian believes, and yes, a few Kaneman posts were targeted as well out of some personal vendetta by the clearly left wing poster that Sig has above admitted to being.

Whats obscuring this a little is that a few people on the forum have been going through and changing threads back, and I know I'm not the only one. I was on some of those discussions, and was interested in continuing them.

Since I have to take time off from important tasks, like work or cancer research to come here and discuss issues, anything which causes me to waste my time to find the discussions I was in irritates me to a rather extreme degree, and I am not likely to soon forget it.

This latest trick is the lowest form of censorship, and I will forward the suggestion, as much as I loathe to do so, to Haken, because I know he already knows the fix for this, he just has to copy it over from the beta to the alpha. I'm sorry that posters cannot behave like adults, because title changing has actually been useful in the past to change threads called "hey look at this one" to something like "a debate on budget policy" or some such that actually hints at the threads contents.

Someone here has wasted my time, and there is basically nothing here that is going to annoy me more than that.

As for changing thread titles; I’ve changed a few, but as far as I can remember only PN’s obscene idiotic titles. I DO think it’d be great if the original poster’s name was referenced rather than the most recent poster; it would save time. Given I get “notifications” of responses to my posts, I go there first to read and respond. When it’s one of the trolls I get notified as having responded to my post, I roll my eyes and delete the e-mail; I already know what’s coming and am not about to waste my time looking.

Wulf, I assume you get lumped in with the trolls because you do get over the top somewhat, and because most of the trolls here are right wing, which you are as well. But no, I don’t think you belong with them, and if you have a sickpuppy, I doubt it would be as guttersniping as they are.

Mostly I don’t care who’s a sickpuppy; it’s THEIR need for attention/affirmation, has nothing to do with me. I respond to what I feel like responding to, and it’s rarely anything they’ve written.

WOULD be nice if we could stop thread-title changing tho'; sometimes I make the effort to change them back to their original, most of the time I don't bother. PN is the very worst offender, in my opinion.

I concur. This is why I posted it in my review list of our posting habits, but a lot of people who are here, have been here a while, recognize each others posting style.

Still, its not a bad idea. We could elect to do it ourselves. We could just post "NYT on Fracking - DT" or some such, then we would know.

I think everyone here can identify PN, Kaneman, and Whozit, which would probably be the ones that people would want to avoid... But still, not a bad idea.

That said...

The inconvenience of clicking on a non-interesting thread wastes maybe a few seconds of my time. The loss of a thread I'm on is a much greater waste of time, and also loses me information and the right to communicate with my peers, regardless of what other people think is true.

Rule for life: don't take ownership of bad ideas. People on either side are liable to come up with bad ideas. Bad ideas are in no short supply. Don't defend one not he basis that its originator appears to have been on one side or the other, because they aren't specifically a member of your team or acting on it's behalf until you step in and do just that.

Now, Cuda and Sig stepping in and saying silencing the competition was a damn good idea was taking very solid ownership of it, regardless of whether or not they did it themselves. It's theirs now.

As for not noticing the silencing of threads, there were a number of us out there changing them back again, so all that remains obscured is trollish stuff no one was interest in, unless we missed any, but there were a number.

Obviously the perp has realized already that the loophole has been closed, so now its a dead issue, I hope we can get on with our lives.
