Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Do these phones really do this?

'What's that new app, Bobby?'

Yes. Not quite of this nature, but I've gotten a couple weird texts from iphones.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

DREAMTROVE

Yes. I've gotten this from iPad. Even when you type in a word, it substitutes, and I have gotten "killed" as a replacement for "kissed" and also "kicked", kissed -> kicked and kicked -> killed. Lots of other gruesome stuff. It usually but not always goes with replacing with adjacent letters on the grounds that this is a common touchscreen error, so iPad assumes you made it. You can figure what it thinks of "bigger."

I think what really happens is that the word itself is spelled correctly, but Enter is kinda hard to hit, so you hit the L either instead or as well, at the same time, so it becomes kissedl and then autocorrect counts it misspelled and goes to work on it. (went out, but at the end of the night, she got strangled.)

There are times when I don't knwo what happened though. It's not always towards a more common word, like firefly to fearful. You'll type self and it will change to serf or something. I had a real problem with it changing like to kike, fairly consistently.

Once it does it a couple times, it decides that it's right. It doesn't measure you going back to correct its decisions, it just figures if a replacement was made, suddenly kike is a more common word, and I can watch it do it because you're typing L-I-K- and his that E and watch it flip over into kike. It's like PN desgined the system Sometimes it won't wait for you to finish typing, particularly this is true in Snow Leopard, in the middle of long words especially. It took forever to get that word because at esp it would change to ESP. But I've had ridiculous things like agnostic turning into agn, to ang, and then I have angos and it flips to like Angie's, and by the time I'm done I have Angie's tick.

Typical Apple, they don't let you get into the guts of the machine and tweak the very buggy feature, so you just have to turn it off. iPad will let you do this, Snow Leopard will turn it back on again as soon as you close the window, so you have to turn it off every time you open a window, or, as it will sometimes correct you to "every time you chose a widow."

When I first got the iPad about a year ago, I made a lot of comments about autocorrect and what it was doing on the various threads here.

It does happen randomly with correctly spelled words though, I think there's a glitch. It will do strange things, like take strange and turn it to strangle. (again, the return L issue could be at work here.)

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

If they do it often enough that there's a popular website dedicated to it, it's a safe bet that autocorrect is pretty full of fail.

Great way to waste some time and get a few laughs.

I also recommend http://www.textsfromlastnight.com/

and http://www.fmylife.com/

Use responsibly.

Mine does. It'll try to replace " he'll " for "hell". Helpful at times, when trying to type in a hurry, but also can be annoying.

" Yes, I DID mean to type h-e-l-l, not he'll. Stop trying to correct me ! "

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I had auto-complete and auto-correct on my stupid phone b4 I disabled it. It insisted on "completing" and "correcting" EVERY damn word, I swear to effing god. It took me five minutes just to type three words. I wanted to shoot the damn thing.

NIKI: TOO FUNNY!!!!
