...for Perry to start self-destructing!
Quote:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's verbal assault on the Federal Reserve and Chairman Ben Bernanke is evoking sharp rebukes from former Bush administration officials.

Perry said the Fed is almost "treasonous" and Bernanke would get an "ugly" reception in Texas.

Politico reported former Bush adviser Karl Rove, a known Perry skeptic, said on Fox News, "It's his first time on the national stage, and it was a very unfortunate comment. You don't accuse the chairman of the federal reserve of being a traitor to his country and being guilty of treason and suggesting that we treat him pretty ugly in Texas. That's not, again, a presidential statement. Governor Perry is going to have to fight the impression that he's a cowboy from Texas. This simply added to it."

Former Bush White House aide Pete Wehner wrote in Commentary, Politico reported: "People shouldn't throw around the words 'almost treasonous' loosely; and certainly a person running for president shouldn't do such a thing." Perry's statement "is the kind of blustering, unthinking comment that Perry's critics expect of him."

Former White House and Treasury Department spokesman Tony Fratto tweeted: "Gov. Perry's comments about ... Bernanke are inappropriate and unpresidential." http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2011/08/16/Perry-on-Bernanke-Almost-tre
asonous/UPI-65461313517223/

Let's see, didn't we just have a kerfluffle about Biden and the word "terrorist" (which even then was only "acting like" terrorists), and how, my goodness, only the left gets down in the gutter like that? I seem to remember something like that.

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned until now...is it possible liberals aren't as quick to rub Republicans' nose in the faux pas of their politicians? Naw, that couldn't be it...

Oh you would be very much gratified by Will Griggs rather total, apocalyptic, unapologetic deconstruction of the sumbitch then.

Perry is a cunningly coiffed Keynesian chameleon, a political whore of such pristine shamelessness that he makes Mitt Romney -- the Mighty Morphin' Mormon from Massachusetts -- look like a granite pillar of principled resolve. He began his political career in 1985 as a 35-year-old Democratic state legislator, and three years later worked for Al Gore's presidential campaign -- a fact that might help to explain why he's so heartily despised by the Bush crime family's retainers. As governor he ruled as a standard-issue servitor of the corporatist state. Now this political cross-dresser is getting all Butched-up to play the role of a maverick "state's rights" proponent fixing a steely gunfighter's gaze on the Fed and its allies.

Yikes! Someone doesn't like him, do they? I hope that opinion spreads like wildfire, 'cuz the attention this guy's getting makes me ill. Palin, Bachmann, they're no threat, they're certified nutcases. But the run-up to Perry joining the fray has been big, and the more I learn about him, the more horrid he seems.

And I find it hysterical that when Biden merely let legislators vent and one of them called "terrorist", to which Biden said they've "acted like" terrorists, it was put up instantly and the argument went on for post after post. Now a Republican has called a member of the administration treasonous, out of his very own mouth, and nobody cares. It's kind of the whole story of this forum, isn't it?

I saw this and meant to post about it, but I've been busy. The Constitution, that document they're all so fond of, defines treason very specifically and narrowly, as taking up arms against the United States, or giving aid and comfort to its enemies. Don't see how anything Bernanke said or did qualifies, although I'm sure somebody here will explain how his actions made a bunch of Chinese commies smile into their bowls of rice.

And even if that were so - if it made ChiComms smile - is that "giving aid and comfort to the enemy"? Can anyone clarify for me if China is in fact our "enemy"? Last I looked, they were a most favored trade partner and one of the single largest holders of our debt, with our corporations lining up to build factories there.

Funny relationship to have with an "enemy", I'd say.

There's more bad news coming out for Rick Perry, but I'm not at liberty to divulge it just yet.

Patience, Niki, patience. I'm hearing some stuff through the grapevine, but some sources are still being vetted at the moment. If it turns out to be accurate information, it will not ingratiate Perry to his churchy buddies or to the tea partiers, although for different reasons.

Bernanke could have been charge with a capital crime under the Coinage Act of 1792. Death was the penalty for debasing the currency, maybe Perry has reason to believe the law still applies.

I'm guessing Perry could be charged for suggesting that Texas secede.

Yeah, that's one of my pet peeves, right up there with running the Jolly Roger up the mast as a joke - if you missed the discussion about the Ady Gil, lets just say that I consider doing so fair cause to sink you and run down the survivors or use them for target practice...

Treason is in fact very explicitly defined for EXACTLY these reasons, to prevent politicans from throwing it around willy-nilly, but of course that's not the only provision of that "piece of paper" that our Government ignores completely.
