Hello,

I'm trying to decide whether this storm is a good thing for Texas or a bad thing for everyone else.

I heard the path isn't going to take it that way, but I'm hoping it'll change course. Texas and Oklahoma really need it.

New Orleans deserves a break.

How cruel is that ? Texas, right there, needing all that water, and NO, not wanting any, is gonna get soaked.

Looks like my labor day is gonna be washed out, which is fine by me. Probably catch a movie or two. We need the rain too.

Good points. Well, maybe this storm will stir up the atmosphere a little over all of the south, including Texas and Oklahoma, break up that heat dome, and form some side storms that'll hit those places.

Boy, I sure hope so! Looking at the weather map, it doesn't look like it'll do much good, but hey, we can hope! Is it still as awful down there, Mike?

Nope. Not even a little bit.

It's supposed to dislodge our high pressure "Rain Prevention Dome" just enough that highs next week should drop down to the upper 90s, but no rain seems to be in the offing. Lee is doing what hurricanes and tropical storms do when they hit the U.S.: turning to the right. Like the GOP, they're just another destructive force that always goes to the right...

Well, we're looking at New Orleans and their predictions of up to twenty inches of rain with considerable jealousy, so yeah, I'd say it's still pretty bad...

Like I said before, even people on the coast down here are saying we need a hurricane. That's when you know it's bad - when you're effectively calling in an airstrike on your own positions!

Hello,

Does even the weather need to be political?

In an age of climate-change deniers, I'd suggest that the weather has been political for quite some time. When the "leader" of Texas claims that there's no such thing as climate change (in the face of year after year of record heat, record droughts, record floods and record storms), and that all we need to do to break a drought is pray the dry away, then I think it's well past time to wonder if the weather is political or not.

But maybe that's just me...

Hello,

I think blaming Texas leaders for the weather will be as effective as blaming God. Even if the Texas governor was an ardent supporter of the Climate Change science, your state would still be hot and dry. It feels more like you saw the opportunity to make fun of the GOP in regards to the direction of the storm. By itself that’s just a fun chuckle, but I worry that the GOP supporters will chime in shortly with some kind of argument.

Which, you know… I really wasn’t trying to make Tropical Storm Lee into a platform for political debate. I was just wondering if it might rain in Texas or flood Louisiana. I was hoping for rain in Texas. That’s all.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Even if the Texas governor was an ardent supporter of the Climate Change science, your state would still be hot and dry."

But if the Texas governor actually thought that Climate Change was man-made he would be more likely to try and get man to fix it. Whereas now, what he proposes is an effing waste of time. So, which do YOU think he should do? Try and fix it long-term for real? Or pray?

Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in taxpayer funded bailouts, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes?

Yeah, me neither....

Hello,

If you'd like to join me over on the other thread where I broach the topic of the President's decision to roll back clean-air standards, we can discuss what the people who DO believe in Climate Change are doing about the problem.

I think there's a need to get the believers to take the environment seriously before we worry so much about the non-believers. The politicians who do believe in climate change and the politicians who don't believe in it currently seem inclined to take some of the same measures.
