Sounds like a pretty similar concept to the Fight The Smear website. The only difference is that this one will draw alarmingly obsessive zealots from both sides to post on the Twitter account.

In other words, sounds like the worst most troll-laden community on the internet in the making, but probably not fearmongering any more than the previous site was.

Hello,

I wish the Democratic party would stop adopting the most foolish aspects of the opposition approach. Lately, it seems that whenever the Republicans have a poor demeanor or an asinine way to approach a problem, the Democrats are anxious to follow suit.

I wonder what repugnant Republican idea they will copy next?

The 'Fight the Smear ' site was a Dem site. To which GOP idea are you referring ?

It seems like the Dems are copying their own repugnant ideas, and aren't waiting around for the GOP.

Well, since Wulf seems to be interpreting this as a "enemy-of-the-nation inform on your family/neighbors thing" I'm going to say "Richard Nixon" as the trope codifier.

But frankly Anthony is right, both sides do this kind of stuff. Unless you believe Republicans never make websites that counter arguments against their platform?

And I asked which concept the Dems have copied from the GOP. This seems to be the 2nd such site this White House has been involved with , and there's already the George Soros funded Media Matters.

What more does the Left need ? There's already Democraticunderground, thinkprogress, the daily kos...

Both sides will make as many websites as they deem fit to reach their target audience. Freedom of Speech allows it.

That's hardly addressing the issue. Wanna try again ?

No, it's not addressing the issue, because I don't go to any Republican or Democratic websites, so I wouldn't know the first place to look for examples.

You want to challenge the assertion that it's a Republican idea that the Democrats stole, you're probably right there, but even though it's the issue you can defend and attack from, it's not the more important issue in this conversation. Rather, the more important issue is, as I said, that both sides do it.

Should I go back into history looking for the first Roman Senator who argued with a political opponent in an election? Who first figured out that you had to water crops for them to grow? Or, is it more possible (and likely) that the knowledge may have evolved in an analogous manner in different groups without needing a single source?

Common strategies in presidential campaigns are a similar story.

I guess my point is lost here, and should be spelled out. This is the 2nd such website the White House, THIS White House has promoted, had ties to, started, what ever, and Anthony made a comment that all they did was copy what the GOP had done.

I'm at a loss as to what the GOP has done which compares. Sure, every conceivable political view out there probably has 'some' web sites. But this, sanctioned by the President specifically, and tied to his re-election... I dunno. Seems a bit Orwellian.

Hello,

Surely it's obvious which Republican senator pioneered this type of behavior.

Hardly apples to apples. It's not merely a site for the promotion of a particular candidate, but you don't want to deal w/ the issue anyways, so I'll leave it be.

AttackWatch, while stupidly named, looks to me like it's just a site for people to field questions they heard from opposition candidates and receive answers from Obama's campaign.

Maybe there wasn't this level of interaction in previous incumbent presidents versions of their campaign websites, nor even quite so defensive a tone, but the underlying principle and purpose are the same.

It's not that I don't want to deal with the issue, it's that I think there's no issue period.

Probably, because with this much backlash off the starting gate, they're better off just scuttling the current site and starting over with a new not-stupid name.

If the GOP did it, they wouldn't call it "AttackWatch" - they'd call it something like "PATRIOT Act" or some other ridiculous jingoistic name.

In fact, that is exactly what they called their version - it allows the White House to listen to anyone's calls, unwarranted, as well as demand to know what library books you checked out, what websites you've visited, etc.

Seems more than just a little bit Orwellian to me, but I'm assured it was all done by the GOP to "protect our freedoms". Apparently the only way they can be protected is if they're taken away from us and locked in a box somewhere.

Well, I for one have had no loss of freedoms, save for getting groped at the airport. It's only gotten worse, under Obama, but it sucks, through both administrations.

But my point was to mock the idea that our freedoms have been taken, in much the same way our $ has been, and " locked away " somewhere, to be kept safe, by our Imperial Federal Government.

So, to your question, in around about, humorous way, yes.

Amazing, conservatives and teabaggers are even incompetent in their whining...

Yannow, if you were bitching about, say, the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has all but been co-opted as a federal agency intent on labelling anything conservative a terrorist threat or hate crime, you might, MIGHT just have a leg to stand on.

But no, you choose to whinge and whine about being TROLLED BY THE PRESIDENT, Well played, Obama - throw down the hook and watch them fight like angry pirahna to jump on it...

You know, YOU idiots and your peers are the best campaign ad Obama ever had, and maybe you should see to that, cause *I* think Obama is a wuss and a piss poor excuse for a president, and he's STILL a better choice than anything your "side" has offered, bloody morons.

And yes, I hate the SPLC as much or more than supposed conservatives do, cause it's not only political correctness gone mad, it's wobbling dangerously in the direction of federally supported infringements on our freedoms, and I don't take that shit from NOBODY, no matter who's side they're on, not do I accept it being done TO anybody, no matter how vile they are.

But anyhows, go on, whinge away at the pop-up target set there just to encourage you to make fools of yourselves, play right into Bidens hands (who is, despite the facade, ten times smarter than Obama and this is his idea, no doubt) and demean yourselves on cue...
I'll even bring popcorn.

Hell, I get trolled by Obama on a semi-regular basis. Just today I got an e-mail from the President, asking - and I quote - "Michael, can we meet for dinner?"

I responded, of course. I was brief, as his time is rather valuable: "Depends. You buyin'?"

I haven't heard back.

Oh, and if Social Security were truly in a lockbox, it wouldn't have been able to be used to fund illegal wars for all these years, and we wouldn't be hearing now about how broke it is after it was squandered on idiotic grandstanding adventurism abroad.
