If nothing else, a message to the candidates as to what they SHOULD be talking about, and who America is listening to this time.

Quote:

ORLANDO - Businessman Herman Cain won the Florida GOP presidential straw poll in a major surprise Saturday, finishing well ahead of the party's two front-runners in what many observers saw as a rebuke of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Cain, who delivered a stirring speech just before the vote, won 37 percent of the more than 2,600 delegate votes. Perry, who had been expected to easily win the straw poll before he gave what many thought was a lackluster performance in Thursday's presidential debate here, finished second with 15 percent.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who did not officially compete and essentially ceded the contest to Perry, finished third with 14 percent.

Is that the first one Ron Paul didn't win?

If nothing else, I'd think Ron Paul's consistent showings would give a better indication of what voters REALLY think the candidates should be talking about...

Ron Paul finished in a distant 5th place, with 10.4% of the vote.

A far cry from the narrow defeat to Michelle Bachmann, at the Iowa Straw Poll.

Try to keep up.

Meanwhile, Ron Paul won the California straw poll handily, with 44.9% of the votes. Herman Cain got a paltry 1.8%, finishing behind Jon Huntsman.

As I said, if straw polls are any indicator of what the voters REALLY want, then Ron Paul is the clear GOP favorite, regularly scoring ahead of Romney, Perry, Bachmann, and Cain.

Ron Paul doesn't have a hope in hell of getting the nomination, but he's got about twelve times as many chances as Herman Cain does. Every time Cain opens his mouth, he shows himself to be either a willful liar or a complete imbecile.

No wonder Rappy likes him so much! They're two of a kind!

Thing is, he's already proven that NOT to be the case. He doesn't know the Constitution from the Declaration of Independence, he has no clue what First Amendment protections are, he's openly admitted his own bigotry in claiming that he'd never consider hiring any Muslims in his administration.

I have lots of problems with Herman Cain. His skin color doesn't make the list. I could care less if he's black, brown, yellow, red, white, purple, green, or white. He's an idiot.

Again, that's exactly why you like him - he's you. Dumb as a stump, yet loudly proclaiming his "patriotism" at every opportunity.

By the way, Rappy, of the two of us, who was it who proclaimed of a certain politician that it really "bugged" him that the politician was black? (Hint: That would be YOU)

Obama doesn't know that there are only 50 states in the nation.

Obama has lied, repeatedly, on what his views are on healthcare.

Obama has referred to his own grandmother, the woman who basically raised him as a " typical white person " , and ascribing racist views to her.

Obama has no clue of what's going on in this country, or this world.

Cain is smart, accomplished and yes, patriotic. He IS me. He's every American who loves freedom and wants to work hard, for a better life. And I'd gladly call him PRESIDENT.

Well, there are some things about President Obama that scare me, yes. His skin color just isn't one of them.

Cain scares me, too, but again his skin color has nothing to do with that. His policies should scare anybody!

Funny that you have to qualify your statements in such a way, though. You couldn't just say "honest, accomplished, hard-working PEOPLE..." - you HAD to make it "black men". What about black women? I guess honest, hard-working, accomplished black women scare the hell out of YOU, eh? Is that why you hate Michelle Obama so much?

I don't find Herman Cain to be particularly honest nor accomplished, but he certainly seems to be hard-working. I'd probably like him more if he weren't such a hardcore nutjob and such a liar. But again, I understand that those are the exact qualities you admire: crazy, dishonest, and dirt stupid.

Herman Cain, a huge TEA party guy, really is giving the old GOP guard something to think about.

What's amusing about thta is that CAIN has shown out of his own mouth what a racist HE is:
Quote:

Herman Cain is asked whether he would be willing to appoint a Muslim as a Cabinet officer or judge.

“No. I will not,” he said. “And here’s why: There’s this creeping attempt — there’s this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government.” According to Cain, many American Muslims “are trying to force their Sharia law onto the rest of us.”
http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2011/03/28/herman-cain-no-muslim
s-need-apply/
, he KINDA took it back later, when he realized what trouble it got him in, but his first instinct was either to pander to the Islamaphobia current these days or else he BELIEVES it, which disqualifies him immediately in my mind!

To talk about Cain having any chance whatsoever of becoming President is also amusingly stupid. Straw polls are regional. Those who come out to vote in straw polls are only the truly fired up (as in "extremists"). We are a loooong ways from the election, so what anyone looks like now means nothing. It's all very silly.

As for me, Oh, WOULDN'T I adore to see Cain win the nomination! Or Bachman or Palin or Perry...any of those four would be SUCH fun!

I know, but it's the same concept. He is willing to foist his own misconceptions about a group of people on the country at large, matters not whether it's a race, religion, sex or anything else. I recognize this is something YOU might want in a President, but to believe that the majority of Americans would want it is a mistake on your part.

It's not " the same concept ", and not even close!

Racism is the belief in the inherit superiority of one race above all others. Nothing Cain has stated comes anywhere near that.

He's not espousing ANY misconceptions. To deny and ignore the threat of radical islam, to which Cain is referring, isn't by any stretch of the imagination 'mean', 'bigoted' or anything else.

He's being honest , and showing a pragmatic, clear thinking approach to a very real world issue.

Speaking of crappy sentences... See the nomination; be the nomination. You're not being the nomination, Danny.

The last three winners of the Florida straw poll to win the GOP nomination were Reagan, Bush Sr., and Dole.

Only three times in the entire history of the U.S. has the Florida straw poll predicted the GOP nominee. And the last one lost. That was more than 15 years ago. The last GOP nominee, John McCain, didn't win ANY straw polls as far as I can find.

Got a giggle. Put up an article in the other thread (about Christie), and thought of this one when I read this part:
Quote:

In a stunning upset (if the results of a 2,657-vote poll can be stunning), bombastic ex-pizza mogul Herman Cain – whose candidacy has been about as exciting as cold pepperoni up to now – won 37.1 percent of the vote.
I think that pretty much puts in perspective the idea of Cain having won a "stunning" victory. Seriously, 37.1% of 2,657 = 985.747 votes. Less than a thousand "votes" is stunning? We are discussing this why exactly?

You stated as "fact" the "fact" that Florida only held its straw poll 3 times in the last 32 years, then, and hasn't held one since 1995, until now. You keep wanting to gloss over the fact that Florida apparently holds a straw poll on average once every decade. We have Reagan winning it in '79, HW Bush in '87, and Dole in '95. Hell, that's not even once per decade, because that would mean they missed it completely in the 2000s.

Florida didn't pick McCain, and they didn't pick Dubya.

You're not too bright, and it shows.

I stated a fact. The last 3 winners of the FL straw poll have indeed ended up winning the GOP nomination. That's not even debatable.

I in fact did NOT say, either way, whether Cain had a shot,or that he was a shoe in, did I ? Nope. Just that this straw vote sends a message.

How is this so hard for you to wrap your head around ? Seriously, how did your brain even learn human speech?

When you've proven yourself the local moron so many times, it's not terribly compelling when you attempt to insult the intelligence of others.

Shit, son, you clearly didn't even grasp your own subtext, stop trying to play smart. You're no good at it.

I put up the same notion near the top of this thread.
However, my math was 37 % of 2600 votes = 962.

This being Florida , I'm going to have to demand a recount. Meanwhile I'm going to sue you in the Supreme Court, and no fair counting those hanging or dented chads.

Yeah, NewOld, I caught your earlier reference, I just found the specific figures a giggle...and I didn't round up like you did, I calculated the actual figures, decimals and all...

Your reflection in the mirror? Or the fact that you can't respond with any sort of a coherent, intelligent or worthwhile reply?

Meh, either way works, huh?

Kwickie - What here did I say on this matter which was inaccurate ?

Nothing. But thanks for playing.

Storybook - I just made your ass look like a fool, and now you're upset. ha-ha! You should be use to it by now, and not get so angry.

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Again, to sum up, the Florida straw poll is a semi-occasional event, signifying nothing, which has failed to accurately predict the GOP nominee for the last 15 years. In fact, the last time the strawman - er, straw poll - accurately predicted the GOP nominee was in 1995, and it hasn't accurately predicted the winner of the election in nearly 25 years.

What a stunning upset this isn't.

Nickerson has stopped even trying, being so far behind.
He's resorted to rhyming, because he hasn't a mind.

See how simple? Of course YOU do, but there's not much else beyond that in your verse

I love how you ignore facts and arguments then accuse others of doing the same.

I post a limerick, and you try and copy with a sad little rhyme.

So I leave you with...

There once was a sad little Raptor.

Posting all the talking point he could gather.

He'd ignore facts he didn't want to hear

while tell others to look in the mirror

but in the end what he said did not matter.
