Hello,

Apparently, if the Sheriff isn't involved in the deportation of immigrants, he isn't concerned with enforcing the law. One might wish that he spent more time doing his job rather than doing the job if Immigration services.

While it is possible that this is just broad incompetence on the part of his staff, that is hardly a defense that warrants any confidence in this Sheriff.

I hope this Sheriff is replaced and his staff is gutted.

There is a move afoot to reduce the number of sex crimes simply by redefining what constitutes a sex crime. If you redefine what "rape" is, for instance (as has been attempted be several conservative politicians), then you have a sudden and drastic drop in rape cases. Sheriff Arpaio seems to be putting this thinking into action.

Besides, to hear some people tell it, only illegals are committing crimes in Arizona, so if Sheriff Joe spends all his time rounding 'em up, he's being a more effective crime fighter than if he were to spend his time actually investigating the crimes themselves.

And yes, that is almost pure snark, but there's some uncomfortable truths in there as well.

What are the chances of that?

Oh don't even get me started - once upon a time there was a strong chance that YOU would be arrested yourself, or at least shaken down, vilified and hassled, for reporting certain crimes, cause if they kept folk from reporting them they could pretend they hardly existed, and it kept the numbers down, don't you know.

Marcus Lawson, formerly of US Customs, had a lot to do with breaking that stonewall, although in the end it got him a forced retirement and all responsibility for that kind of thing stripped from USC and tossed onto civvie volunteers down at NCMEC, whom I have a lot of "issues" with about their handling of it.
