Niki started it, then Rap tried it, then stopped, and then I tried it, and really, it makes life easier and more readable. You always know where your words are. And when someone is quoting you.

I will feign ignorance because I'm lazy.

Also because I dislike having identifying features on my posts like avatars or signatures.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I actually find bright colors on the black background incredibly difficult to read. If I want to read a super bright color, I have to highlight it, which is only moderately easier.
If I were to use a different color, I would chose something subtle and brownish. However, unless I'm trying to emphasize something, changing font color probably isn't something I'd go to the trouble of doing all the time. Maybe for my signature, but not generally.

You should totally use black. Then everyone will have to highlight your posts to see what you said. I'm pretty sure that's how spoilers here work; they just code for black font.

Feh, I cut my teeth on ANSI BBS's on monochrome monitors of that awful, awful eye-searing lowres green and black - for everyone, ergo I dun need no stinkin fancy fonts or colors to tell people apart.

Yeah, that's why I chose green. Old familiar monochrome. The person I have trouble telling from the crowd is me ;)

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I AM lazy--tho' my love of color is part of it, too, given whatever forum I'm on, I like Comic Sans and some color.

But it goes beyond that, and DT's got part of it. Since I'm usually only here once, in the morning, when I come back the next day and go through the threads there are often a LOT of posts since I was last here. So I scroll up to the last purple thread (mine) and start reading from there. Saves me lots of time.

For me it's easy 'cuz I've used the concept so many different places. I've got a Word doc open that has all the names of people and what I want to remember about them, like whether male or female, what state they live in, etc. I use the same document to write posts when I know they're going to be long or I'm going to quote a lot of people as I go along...learned my lesson from losing so damned many posts to glitches! So on that same doc the first line has the code for font and font color, and in my sig are the "closers"; all I have to do is type the post right after the code, then copy and paste the whole thing, or copy/paste just the first line of code. It's automatic, and I do it for myself, not anyone else. I like that DT does it now...my brain goes automatically "DT" when I see the green...would be neat (just FOR ME) if everyone did, so I'd always know who I was "reading" (given I've mistaken one for another at times, which is slightly embarrassing).

I get that this is the second time you've suggested it, DT, but I doubt anyone else is going to take up the practice...I seem to remember we went through a short, fun time with colors a while ago with Mike, and that was the end of it. Same here, I'm sure. But thanks for mentioning it, I'm glad someone else enjoys the convenience too. I alo changed from that earlier color because this one seemed less bright, as some had complained.

I actually like yours, Rose, it's very "you" from the impression I've always had of you (all the way back from you-know-where). Calm, quiet, understated and pleasant. (I hope none of those offend.) And yeah, you're no doubt right, the black is what is coded for the spoilers, makes sense
Okay, I'll 'fess up; the IMPETUS for color is my bipolarity; we usually love bright colors and dramatic stuff, and from my mom, who was a color freak (well, and bipolar...). The DAY I discovered Macintoshes, with their availability of fonts, colors, etc., after years with the old green-and-black courier, I went ape shit, and have ever since! Now everyone's used to colors--and some of you may well have never lived through the earlier computers--but for me it was like throwing the gates open to a brave new world, and shifted my occupation from word processor to desktop publisher. I am eternally grateful.

Go DT.

Well, I programmed it into my signature. If it's about identifying posts when skimming through a thread, though, I have the shiny sig image to do that.
