Randy Travis arrested for public intoxication
Country star Randy Travis was arrested in Sanger, Texas, early Monday morning for public intoxication.

The Denton County Sheriff's Office tells CNN that Sanger police found a vehicle parked in front of a Baptist church very early Monday morning and, upon further investigation, discovered Travis in the car with an open bottle of wine. The police say the 52-year-old singer smelled of alcohol.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Travis was arrested shortly after midnight on Monday and taken to the Denton, Texas, county jail. He was given a citation and held because of intoxication until 7:44 this morning, when he was released.

"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," Travis tells CNN in a statement. "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."

I thought the celebrity course of action was to sign yourself into rehab? Instead, Randy Travis takes responsibility for his actions and apologizes.

I'm both pleased and gob smacked at the same time.

For once?

Just a quick google of the words "Celebrity" "apologize" and "dui" come s up with some from Daniel Dae Kim, Mel Gibson, Ty Pennington and others.

Maybe a *tiny* bit of research is in order before making declarations.

Just a thought.

In Texas, shouldn't he have been charged with DUI? They changed the law here, so that you don't actually have to be DRIVING - if you are in the vehicle, with access to the keys, and inebriated, that's cause for a DUI charge.

No wonder he'll cop to the PI charge - it's a tiny fine and a nothing misdemeanor!
