Republicans looking to defeat President Barack Obama in November’s general election are rooting for the American economy to fail, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee said in an interview Sunday.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said criticism from Republicans on Friday’s worse-than-expected jobs report was reflective of their political motives.

“What's really bothersome to me is that it almost seems like my Republican colleagues in Congress and Mitt Romney are rooting for economic failure,” Wasserman Schultz told CNN chief political correspondent Candy Crowley. “I mean, they've been hyper focused on one job, Barack Obama's, for really the last two years. And we all need to be pulling together to focus on moving the economy forward for the middle class and for working families.” http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/04/08/dnc-chair-says-republi

Yeah, it's Wasserman-Schultz, nobody could expect the Dems to not jump on any advantage. But as I've said before, it took me a very long time to even conceive that this might be true, and eventually even I have had to accept it. It seems like the focus has been entirely on abortion, killing unions and scapegoating government workers, I haven't seen them propose much (if anything) that would actually help the economy or create jobs since they got power in 2010. In which case, it's incredibly sad that those who are supposed to represent us are instead HARMING the economy deliberately just to get in power!

When Rush Limbaugh sez Democrats want to ruin the economy to blame it on the do nothing Republican congress the Dems say that's insane, when Schultz sez Rupublicans want to ruin it to blame Barry THEN the press believes it?

I think saying the Republicans are rooting for the economy to fail is like saying the kid with his hand in the cookie jar wants to run out of cookies. Didn't you know? God/Capitalism has promised them an infinite number of cookies as long as they keep stuffing their faces.

When your mind is focused on "us vs. them" there is no end game, only a series of utterly absorbing victories and defeats. Again, who needs an end game when God/The Invisible Hand of the Market is in control and on your side? They presume that no matter how mindless and destructive and mindlessly desctructive they are, God/Capitalism will provide. It's stark lunacy, but as long as sane people don't put a stop to it, they will persevere in bloody minded self-destruction and drag the rest of us along with 'em.

With the recent rulings from SCOTUS and all the crazy anti-woman legislation, I'm kinda wondering why we're not having more of those delightful "Is America Becoming a Fascist State?" threads. Is it because that ship has already sailed and not worth mentioning now?

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Because people think if they ignore it hard enough, it'll go away, which is about par for the course, HK.
Heaven knows I get enough dirty looks from arbitrarily needling folk about it.

I dunno about locally with you all, but up here the Repug-nant bastards don't just root for it to fail, but actively participate in, and downright formulate, malicious economic destruction - from Englers budgetary sabotage as we punted him out the door, which Mike Cox stonewalled us trying to fix, to submitting faked up budgets which damn near caused a Government shutdown (which I think shoulda been criminally charged) to all kinds of various porkbarelling and economic kneecapping INTENDED to wreck the states economy ON PURPOSE.

So around here it goes beyond Shadenfruede and into direct participation, something a lot of folks are very, very pissed off about, there's REASONS that Snyder only makes "public" appearances to hand-picked crowds of the usual foaming nutjobs so divorced from reality that they can stomach his bullshit.

Sadly, to a degree, that's entirely the case. Not that it's not worth fighting, but that ship indeed did leave port during Obama's first hundred days, when he actually could have done something to change things, and he really didn't.

Sure, he did some stuff, but he didn't really *DO* anything, if you know what I mean. The people who collapsed the economy and took the global economy to the brink of ruin? He not only kept them in power, in most cases he fucking PROMOTED THEM and gave them MORE power. Rather than roll back the presidential power grabs of the Bush years, Obama instead embraced and expanded them.

I hoped; Obama changed. Mostly, he changed his mind. At this point, the only thing keeping me from just staying home on Election Day is the stances the GOP has taken, which actually make Obama look like a progressive! (He is, in point of fact, a right-centrist, governing to the right of Reagan on a large number of issues.)
