This really knocked me over when I saw it last night.

Here is what most Americans think our distribution of wealth should be:

Here is what they think it really is:

And here's what it ACTUALLY is:

That's pretty amazing, to me. That third bar, in particular, leaves me speechless.

What it shows is that most Americans accept that the wealthy should have the majority share, but don't realize just HOW unequal the distribution of wealth actually IS...by a very, very long shot!

Pretty big discrepancy, and as I said, that last one really blows my mind:

Oh. I thought this was going to be about how most of the money and wealth in the world is pretty much illusionary. Numbers in a box somewhere, unattached to anything. Humans with pretensions of grandeur who have to do all the same business the rest of us do. Hamsters on a wheel.

But, yeah, illustration of outcome of inherent flaws in the system.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

This actually reminds me of the last season of Game of Thrones where various characters were having discussions about what 'power' really was.

Which is similar (to my mind) to what wealth actually is.

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Wow, powerful graph.

Has anyone else noticed that conservatives seem to be completely silent on the issue of income inequality, and its widening gap? Like they don't think it's a problem, or are unable to blame liberals for it, or something. Might start a provocative thread on it...

It's not personal. It's just war.

Actually, they DON'T think it's a problem. They think it's the way things should be...except that the rich shouldn't have to pay taxes, either.

Remember, if you believe in trickle-down, you think the "job creators" should have virtually ALL the money.

AHEM!....

There is a middle ground.....

Give the rich people all the money, and they'll continue to hoard it invest it in their own interests. This idea used to work pretty good at one time, before the US Government allowed us to pay foreign workers in different countries to do the work at a fraction of the cost.

Give the poor people all the money, and they'll spend every dime above and beyond sustinance on booze, drugs, gambling and hookers (in no particular order).

Don't give me any of the "well that's racist" BS either. Most of the people I know were middle-class 10 years ago. They got credit practically shoved down their throats when they didn't need it, and whether it was paying WAY more for a house than they needed to, or personal vices, or just the inability to "click and pay" when there was no "account limit maxed" warning preventing it, they're all now.

These are all, supposedly, smart, educated and mostly white people. Now they're all getting Bankruptcies and other bail outs. I'm sure it won't be long until tax payers will have to pay for college debt elimination since college isn't getting most of the graduate jobs either, especially in the Liberal Arts.

I'm constantly calling credit card companies to reduce my max line. I CAN'T BELIEVE that nearly every credit card I apply for today would be willing to extend me 5k in credit when that's more than 50 percent I make after taxes in a year with no overtime... and I don't give a shit how good my credit score still is. The only reason I have different credit cards today is because I stack up different bonuses depending on where I'm shopping. Back when I was 21, I had over 80k in credit. Why would anyone give somebody who didn't even get an associates 80k in credit with no assets other than their car?????

Scientifically speaking.... look at the stats Niki....

I think the results of the lower middle class "experiment" and the aftermath of it all, is self evident.

Have you ever thought that maybe the only reason that the "1%" has control of 90% of the economy is because we'd all be living in our own filth if wealth was distributed equally among us?

No.....

WOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I'M RICH BE-OCH!!!!!

Top shelf liquor on me all night. Vegas baby, yeah!

Those are my friends, even at 32 who don't have kids.... If you gave them an extra 10k a year to spend, they'd blow it in 2 weeks.

Wealth is like water; there's only so much of it to go around. It can be moved around, coaxed to come to you, or stolen. But if you STEAL, you better have lawyers & lobbyists & politicians that can make it legal.

Therein lies the rub, don't it Chris?

That's the thing about fiat currency. If all of us were wealthy, then none of us would be wealthy.

Good one Chris...and they DO have them, don't they?

Since it was responding to a quote from me, I broke my rule and started reading Sux's post. Got as far as "Give the poor people all the money, and they'll spend every dime above and beyond sustinance on booze, drugs, gambling and hookers (in no particular order)." Wow. That's as far as I bothered to go. Back to ignoring him...

What's untrue about that statement?

Giving somebody more money that doesn't know how to manage it in the first place isn't going to help them.

I think it's funny how 9 out of 10 people would rather seriously overpay the Federal Government in income taxes every year so they can get a big refund, rather than just have a larger paycheck and get just a few bucks back at the end of the year. They all say the same thing "I'd spend it on stuff I didn't need and it's nice having that extra paycheck once a year".

Wow....

And that is money they earned... it's not extra money the government is giving them. It's an interest free loan they willingly give the government every year because they don't know how to control their spending.

Go ahead Niki, give all the poor people more money. Meanwhile, our taxes will just increase, almost nullifying the gesture, and 99% of those people will just buy more useless crap with the money.

BTW.....

You really need to add an "END" tag for your font tag because anyone who responds to you responds in blue.

I do suppose you're right Nick.

I'd sure like to live in a world where we all had enough gold to require a 20" neck to hold the weight of our Mr. T bling though.

But in that world, we'd probably be making our beer cans out of gold and nobody would be impressed.
