The US buisnesses which sell those items would lose what business they have since many would not be able to afford the products anymore. Second the countries who's products are having tariffs set against them would naturally respond with tariffs against any US products. I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

China, for instance, has tariffs as high as 22% on U.S.-made vehicles, and up to 20% on other items made here and sold in China. Many other countries follow suit, if I'm not mistaken. Meanwhile, what tariffs do we put on their goods? 2%?

Quote: Fewer companies announced plans to lay off workers and private businesses said they're hiring more people in June. Meanwhile, claims for unemployment benefits fell during the last week of the month. And separately, a report released by payroll-processing company ADP beat expectations and showed that private businesses added 176,000 jobs in June, a significant improvement over the month before. Small businesses continued to drive job growth, with companies employing fewer than 50 employees hiring 93,000 people. http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/05/news/economy/adp-initial-claims-jobs/index.htm?hpt=hp_t2 month, or a couple, don't mean shit, obviously, except for people like Raptor to hang their hat on and crow about. And of course, after screaming to the rafters about gas prices, the right is amusingly silent about how they've fallen lately, as you said, Mike. Ridiculous petty efforts to SOMEHOW diss Obama, no matter what. Some people need to get a grip.

Quote:NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Just in time for the start of the summer driving season, U.S. drivers are enjoying some relief at the pump, much sooner than past years. Early May is typically about the time of year that gas prices hit their peak, as refineries switch over to start making the summer blend required after Memorial Day. In 2008, the record high price for gas of $4.114, didn't come until July 17. But this year the average national price for a gallon of unleaded has already been declining slowly but steadily for just over a month, shaving about 20 cents off a gallon of unleaded in that time. And with oil prices also falling, more declines at the pump are expected. http://money.cnn.com/2012/05/10/news/economy/gas-prices/index.htm have some of the highest ga prices in the country, and they've been dropping steadily the past two months. From April 10th's SFGate:Quote:This year's sharp spike in gasoline prices appears to be over in California. For now, at least. The state's average price for a gallon of regular peaked at $4.36 a month ago and has been drifting downward ever since. The average now stands at $4.26, according to AAA Insurance, which issued its latest monthly price update Tuesday. The national average, meanwhile, may have topped out in the last week, reaching $3.93. It slipped to $3.92 on Tuesday, according to AAA. That doesn't mean gas prices won't rise again this year. They often do in late spring and early summer, as vacation season drives up the demand for gasoline. http://www.sfgate.com/business/article/California-gas-prices-on-way-down-from-March-peak-3473008.php of the 4th of July, according to the Wall Street Journal:Quote:MarketBeat (WSJ) – Gas Prices Down 13 Weeks; Longest Streak Since 2008 Gas prices fell in the past week for the 13th straight week, something that hasn’t happened since a 15-week streak that ended in December 2008: Dow Jones’ Jerry DiColo reported: The national average price of retail diesel fuel fell 3 cents to $3.648 a gallon in the week ended Monday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said. Prices are the lowest price since Feb. 21, 2011, and are 20 cents below a year ago. http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2012/07/gas-prices-down-13-consecutive-weeks/A huge deal was made by the Republicans about the spike in gas prices a while ago, which is actually an annual occurrence, and they were hollering that it was Obama's fault and we needed that pipeline and to drill in Alaska, etc. Neither exists at this time; Presidents can't make the price go up and down; and as usual at this time of year (actually a bit earlier than normal), they've gone down. It was nothing but a political ploy, and of course they shut up the minute prices started going down.

Gas prices here ARE 3.60 I missed the 3.19 boat, since I'm an honorary Jew and didn't sniff out the REAL DEAL Really, it doesn't mean fuck all to me since I could walk to work when the weather gets cooler. The only reason I have to spend gas money besides family parties or barbecues is to go 7 miles out of state to pick up 4 cases of beer, which comically, is the only damn thing besides retirement accounts Illinois taxes cheaper. I go to two liquor stores right next to each other..... If the first has an old or repulsive girl working the counter, I walk away with two 30 packs. The same for the second liquor store not 700 feet away...If hot girls are working those hours, than I just walk out with two.... 2 cases of beer nets me nearly 8 bucks off of what I'd pay in taxes in my state, the only thing that is taxed more here.... 4 cases saves me 16 bucks.....
