I thought I'd post this fascinating story about an internet sock-puppet artist/troll at work and how she's exposed, just to show that as contentious as things sometimes seem around here on the board, we're nowhere NEAR as this bad.

Fandom is fun, but people do sometimes get a little crazy about it.

It's rather long, you can probably get the gist of it reading up to Part 5. But it's still really interesting reading after that, wondering when enough's enough.

Even just the first section before we even are introduced to the story subject is kind of amazing. Inter-discussion group dislike and STALKING. Over children's books and fanfiction.

And then there are the epic facebook trolls who have elevated it to a performance art form - folks like Chest Strongwell, Tom Joad, Surly Thor, Duke St. Rollins and Duchess St. Rollins, and some others. Their main aim is hilarity, but they can also be recruited to do good in the name of a good cause.

It's true. There are many trolls that you can admire for their quality, for the way that they have more in mind than abusing or manipulating people. This is not one of those stories.

(I should look up your recs though. I do enjoy reading about a good troll)

It's funny, because when the article came out, I realized I was already friends with three of these four. I haven't done any facebook trolling, but I've been behind the scenes for a few things, and have a few more in the works.
