The Senate Intelligence Committee announced plans Thursday to hold a series of hearings on the attack on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Libya. But the panel scheduled its first session on the politically charged issue for Nov. 15, a week after the presidential election.

The committee said its inquiry, starting with a session closed to the public, will focus on “the intelligence and security situation surrounding” the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the chairman of the committee, recently said in a television interview that it “was possibly a mistake” for the nation’s spy chief to provide talking points to lawmakers about the nature of the attack before details were clear.

Other inquiries are also underway on Capitol Hill, but only the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has held a public hearing so far.

DALEK!

Why are you surprised?

Is the point to get answers so we can improve on how things are done in the future or is it to score political points?

JONGSSTRAW

I was watching tv last night and it was very surreal. Bob Woodward was being interviewed about the Libya attack and cover-up, and when I switched to TCM it was playing All The President's Men. That is such a great movie and impossible to turn off. So I watched the last hour of it. The ending showing Woodward and Bernstein typing away like mad as they wrote the fatal articles that took Watergate right into the White House, while Nixon is on live tv getting sworn in for his second term made me think similar events could be on the horizon forty years later.

Sorry, but I forgot the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags.

There's at least one more option. That Sen. Feinstein doesn't want any more information showing the White House as indecisive and slow to react to come out before the election.

So Geezer thinks a Senate investigation is purposely being delayed for political purposes?

What a surprise.

Not only is the investigation being delayed, but oddly enough, the man behind the YouTube video, which had absolutely nothing to do w/ the benghazi attack, isn't scheduled to get out of jail until...

3 days AFTER the election.

Rule # 39 : There is no such thing as coincidence

Still, the likelihood of any pre-election investigation taking place would be far fetched.

It's not how DC works.
