America loves a winner!

Got home, after hearing all about this Boston video, showing the old man collapsing as he ran by the bomb.

( He got up, and finished the race, as I understand )

So, I flip over to FOX , to see what, if anything new had come in on the story.

Greta was on a split screen , recapping the events of the day, while offering no news. On the other side of the screen, a video clip was running, of the bomb going off, and the old man falling to the ground.

9 times, the exact same loop ran. 9 straight times. Over and over and over...

WHY ?

Then, they 'mixed it up', showing a different camera angle, a wide shot, and down at the bottom... yep. Old man falling down, as the bomb went off.

Back to the original tight shot of the old man... at least 3 more times.

Nothing Greta was talking about had ANYTHING to do w/ what was being shown on the screen next to her, but the editors kept running it, over and over and over.

Utterly pointless and gratuitous.

I listened to a BBC live stream on the subject running in the background for a while. They were interviewing people. Constant back and forth between a phony "We don't want to speculate"-mantra and endless questions trying to get the witnesses to do just that. Or get details of blood and gore.

Just trying to milk the tragedy for extra horror.

It was upsetting and I turned it off.

Don't have cable TV, never will again. It's lovely not to have that crap in my house.

And don't even get me started on advertising!

NBC was the same, except it was Bryan Williams. Same clips, over and over. Same info, over and over.

NEWOLDBROWNCOAT

This is what ALL MEDIA does when there is no NEW information to add to a story, this is what every channel here in Los Angeles did. ( E-T-A_ except for the California Security/disaster guy who said that there was no link from Boston to California, but that we should all be more alert here anyway.) Doesn't matter, left, right or center, when they haven't got a clue, they haven't got a clue.

There was no story after about the first 10 minutes, there is still no story this morning-- The FBI is gonna have a briefing soon-- probably isn't going to be any story there, except, "We're still trying to figure it out." They might have enough real info to start focusing on a real suspect, but don't count on it.

Meanwhile, the stories about unexploded other devices on the other thread seem to be turning out to be false, or political bloviating,(or else failures of the Big Government Cover-up.)

Stories about the ball bearings in the bombs are being denied by the hospitals and surgeons. E-T-A: This in, in the time it took to post & update once-- A surgeon reports that the bombs contained nails and pellets, that were part of the " explosive device". Not 'xackly ball bearings, but maybe the BB's reported yesterday.

And the Saudi student whose apartment they searched: he LET them. They found NOTHING to connect him with the bombs.

IT'S TOO SOON FOR THERE TO BE ANY USEFUL FACTS.

The cable news channels are going wall to wall on every conceivable angle they can to fill up air time. It's understandable that things gets repeated over and over.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

As everyone knows, and has written, this is what they do. "If it bleeds, it leads". I saw the same thing...but even more gratuitous, to me, was Rev Al (yeah, well, I had four channels going and I kept switching around to see if there was anything new), whose commentary was spattered with "body parts" and other terminology I don't care to repeat. I ended up just switching between THREE channels, to avoid him (which I usually do anyway--avoid him, that is).

I remember journalism. It was always sensationalistic, but the lack of real JOURNALISTS these days has pruned it down to "whatever film you've got!" over and over, and talking heads trying to get attention. It's very sad.

In THIS particular situation, FauxNews is no worse than any of the others, in my opinion. They're all equally trash.

STORYMARK

So far, Ive avoided all the TV coverage of this - there's nothing to report yet anyway, so all their doing it trafficking in carnage and fear.

But for once, this is a thread Im in 100% agreement with the OP on.

They did it again tonight at 9:44pm. Two bomb experts were being interviewed, then the screen split to Hannity on one side and that same video of the old runner falling down. I started to count. They showed it eight times in a row, then they zoomed in on the same footage and showed it three more times. Eleven times, the same thing in one minute??? It has to be being done on purpose for some reason. That poor old man. He's now been seen falling down more times than that ski jumper was during the opening for ABC's Wide World Of Sports for 20 years.

I'm not annoyed with WHAT they chose to run, but good grief! They damn near made it into a Benny Hill skit, looping that short clip, over and over and over and over and over... the only thing missing was the Yakity Sax theme song, playing in the background.

About the only thing they DIDN'T do was run it in reverse, then forwards, backwards and forwards, real fast.

Maybe I've been working too much, but I swear I just saw Mark Fuhrman ( yes THAT Mark Fuhrman ) on the Sean Hannity show.

I understand the guy had some sort of radio career, after getting run out of LA, but not much else.

And so now, he's some sort of special expert on matters of law enforcement, and a 'go to ' man for this sort of story ?

Seriously?

WTF ?

Well ya know, life's just funny that way. Elliot Spitzer is on CNN all the time, and Anthony Weiner will probably be the next Mayor of NYC.
