Since Obama had enough supporters to win a second term, why has the obvious connection between that and terror-inclinations not led to a whole host of other attacks?

On the other hand, if the connection is not that obvious and causal, why is it relevant at all?

There have been plenty of attempts.

How is it NOT relevant ?

Also, the older brother was flagged by the Russians, and both the FBI AND CIA knew he was someone to be aware of, yet nothing was done.

It's not, obviously. If we wanted to go into which President or Presidential candidate our various crazies approved of, or supported, or whatever, we could dig up all kinds of stuff, keep track of who supported who, and it would still be totally irrelevant.

These guys were crazies, and crazies do as crazies do. The government investigated him (I believe they only checked out one of them, correct?) when the "foreign government" (everyone keeps saying "Russia", but from what I heard, they hadn't verified it was Russia at that time, so I must have missed something) pointed him out. It appears from what I'm able to glean that there was no indication of radicalization or activity at the time. They asked for more info, but didn't get any. I'd love to see us try and follow up on and keep track of everyone the FBI ever checked out, just in case, especially since their FAMILY seemed pretty unaware they'd radicalized right up until recently. A whole new growth industry!

Idiotic. A weak try, at best, to make some kind of...point? From what it says, there's no evidence they ever voted, and let's see, college student tweets about an election...wow, big news!

They supported Obama because they thought he's the new Osama. Well no one said they were very bright. But one must admire the Golfer-In-Chief's record on dealing with terrorists. He kills them and everyone around them with drones, which is so much more in the spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize than anything done by his predecessor.

Another false equivalency, and another lie; nothing new. Rap knows full well that no responsible human being made such a connection and that the complaints were about the language and cross hairs and threats of "Second-Amendment remedies" being potential incitements to violence.

And of course we all know "yet nothing was done" was deliberate, and he knows better, so there's another lie to lay at his feet. It's been all over the news that they investigated him at the request of that "foreign government" (which I see now is "from Russian state security, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter")...and oh, by the way:
Quote:

The CIA pushed to have one of the suspected Boston Marathon bombers placed on a U.S. counterterrorism watch list more than a year before the attacks, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The CIA request led the National Counterterrorism Center to add Tsarnaev’s name to a database known as the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment, or TIDE, that is used to feed information to other lists, including the FBI’s main terrorist screening database. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/cia-pushed-to-ad
d-boston-bomber-to-terror-watch-list/2013/04/24/cf02b43c-ad10-11e2-a8b9-2a63d75b5459_story.html

I assume by "nothing" having been done, he's intimating that the guy should have been locked up in Gitmo on suspicion, along with the no-doubt millions of other potential terrorists...and I guess anyone who spoke against the government, right or left--no, only left, I'm sure. There have never been right-wing nutcases who haven't been stopped before they committed terrorist acts, have there...?

Given the guy has MORE ties to Infowars than he ever did to Obama or anyone on the left, I'm surprised Rap wants to keep going with this one. Me, I just showed how silly trying to make such connections is in another thread, so have no further interest in his babblings in this one.

Aha! The intelligent response!

I long ago stopped looking at any thread PN started, about anything. It has now reached the point of no longer following any thread he's even responded to, maybe not even to see whether anybody else has anything intelligent to say.
I have learned, mostly, not to bother to argue with the Rap, 'cuz it's such a waste of time. Been about to not bother with ANY thread he starts, nor to bother with any thread he responds to.

That's about it for me...I scroll past PN's rants in other people's threads (after all, it's not their fault he comes in and plasters the place), and I will read Rap's threads; well, most of them. Some are just too obvious to bother with. I should stop, because far too often I give in to the temptation to refute his idiocy, which is time I'll never get back and isn't really needed here, since everyone already knows...

I've given up on Wulf, too; I kept hoping he'd have something to contribute, but he's gotten as bad as Six in his way, predictably boring rants and nothing of any substance ever to offer. It's a shame; I wish more of you would post, I KNOW there's stuff out there you have opinions on and this place is getting dreary again.

Hoping that the bombers were white Americans ( read - CONSERVATIVES ), or else it would harm the Left wing, and hurt the immigration movement. Did ya happen to miss all of that ?

That's all it is, Magons. That's all it EVER is or ever will be. You already knew that.

The fact that our government DID follow up on the immigrant in question, investigated him, found nothing, asked for more information from the foreign government in question, got none (in other words, nothing indicating further investigation was warranted), and moved on to other more obvious targets (apparently) isn't sufficient for people like Rap. He wants an FBI agent on every corner, a video camera in every mosque, apparently.

That the Boston bombing should have ANYTHING to do with immigration is pathetic. But it's what people like Rap's "sources" are pushing right now, so it's good for political point scoring. And again, the fact that the bomber was a follower of InfoWars, a highly anti-government "source", means nothing; that he heralded Obama's election, means everything. That says it all.

Okay, so you know that it is already incredibly hard to enter the US legally. You do have to go through lots of hoops to get in.

As for the warning, I guess there is this little issue of poor relations with Russia. Historically they've spied on one another, not co-operated. I guess the other issue is that usually the Chechnyian threat is towards Russia, not the USA. But yeah, in hindsight....always easier to say.

What kind of checks can you make to determine what is or will be in someone's heart and mind. Not all Muslims end up committing mass killings, and not all mass killings are conducted by Muslims, as we have seen many, many times in the US in recent times.

Or are you suggesting that Muslims not be allowed to immigrate?

NB Thanks for the link to the Salon article. Did you actually read more than the title, because it was an interesting article.

I quote:

"If recent history is any guide, if the bomber ends up being a white anti-government extremist, white privilege will likely mean the attack is portrayed as just an isolated incident — one that has no bearing on any larger policy debates. Put another way, white privilege will work to not only insulate whites from collective blame, but also to insulate the political debate from any fallout from the attack.

It will probably be much different if the bomber ends up being a Muslim and/or a foreigner from the developing world. As we know from our own history, when those kind of individuals break laws in such a high-profile way, America often cites them as both proof that entire demographic groups must be targeted, and that therefore a more systemic response is warranted. At that point, it’s easy to imagine conservatives citing Boston as a reason to block immigration reform defense spending cuts and the Afghan War withdrawal and to further expand surveillance and other encroachments on civil liberties."

Bolding mine. Could be directled at you, Rap

How about we meet in the middle, and compromise , shall we ? No admittance of Muslims who have been put on another country's watch list for potential ties to or involvement in terrorism?

And cross check to make sure their names are spelled correctly, if we can.

MD - first of all, the article itself is a pile of go-se. The tripe about 'white privilege ' is just that. Tripe. The author is claiming that U.S. is racist, while being bigoted ( if not racist ) himself.

Second, look at the facts we have so far. Immigration is already a broken system. 11 million illegals here ( My guess is that it's more like 15, but who's counting ) already. That's a given. Then we have 1 brother who apparently never became a U.S. citizen, yet is still here, who gets put on a Russian list for suspected terrorist activity, and was already interviewed by the FBI as a person of interest, over a year ago. Then add to the fact their mother was a shop lifter, to the tune of 1000's of dollars, and oh yeah, they were on welfare. The fact that the older brother was also selling drugs to help finance himself can't really be brought up, because the narrative already out in the media is that he was " all-American kid ".

I read the, ahem, "article" and found it lacking - intelligence. Like you guys never heard of "smokescreen." Hell, you guys practically invented it.
I remember Bushy campaigning and telling anyone dumb enough to listen that he was a God fearing public official ready to stand with the Silent Majority/Religious Right................

How did that go for you? Once in office he turned his back and put his arm around Karl Rove (aka: the Devil) and shook himself free from the Lord's presence. And now he's hoping against hope that there is no hell, too late Bubba!

Imagine naming a library after his lame ass. He could barely read!

This guy, the bomber, obviously was playing the flag-waving American bit to the hilt. Come on guys, do I have to explain everything. It's part of what is called a sleeper agent....did you ever see the movie "Telefon"? It acts like a duck, quacks like a duck and fucks like a duck. So here we are folks. Do you get it now? Natural disasters, exploding plants, fires coming out of nowhere............and you think Obama has anything to do with this? Jeez you guys are dense?

Yeah, all this has happened since Obama was elected POTUS. Hell, even 9/11 was his fault - in an alternate timeline. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid!

Go figure.

Welfare taking, America hating, shop lifting, women beating, bomb throwing ( literally ) Islamo nut jobs.

Ahh... the religion of Peace.

Chickens coming home, baby.

Really!? You draw a quote from a right wing douche bag blog and claim it the "official" response and we're supposed to cower underneath the sheets:

Oh the Auraptor has come from down on high with his tablets of Knee-Jerk Commandments, woe unto us non-believers, for we have sinned against humanity.................the horror!

Not a chance!

Hurling conspiracy theories about like so much cannon fodder does not an argument make!

To quote that famous American freedom writer, Melvin Udall:

"Go sell crazy some place else, we're all stocked up here."

As I read somewhere yesterday - to the extreme right, the constitution is just the 2nd ammendment, and a bunch of other suggestions...

America loves a winner!

SGG - I see no conspiracy, but it seems you do. I see a broken immigration system, and massive govt incompetence, though, stemming from a failure by bureaucrats to actually do their job. Might be because our current President refuses to even acknowledge there IS such a thing as Islamic nut job terrorism.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

"Wasn't at least one of these guys a big Alex Jones fan?" Yup, as I mentioned before, it's amusing that THAT little fact, his being a huge fan of the ANTI-GOVERNMENT InfoWars, is totally irrelevant to Rap, but his TWEETING approval of Obama being elected is hey, ho, HUGE NEWS!!! One can but laugh...

SGG, sorry he got to you; just keep reminding yourself, There Can Be No Expectation Of Logic...or beter yet, just don't read his bullshit. He's a one-note song, which will never change and has gotten o, so terribly old and boring. He's not worthy of your anger...only of mockery.
