Gawd, I love California...

The hate group, WBC (Westboro Baptist ‘Church’) showed up, this February, to picket a Santa Monica High School after the school publicly embraced a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) environment. When WBC arrived, they got a big surprise. The Santa Monica High School district’s Board of Education caught wind of WBC’s threat to picket, and sent out an open letter to the students and community. The community showed up, and it looks like they had a good time. Some of the counter signs to Westboro’s “God Hates…” were:

“God Cares for All Creation,”
“Ain’t Nobody Got Time for Hate” and
“God Hates People Who Say They Know Who God Hates.”

The crowd held hands, waved flags and cheered. {Want a morning smile? Watch the video--Dunno why it's not posting directly to thread like usual, but you can click on it. See WBC shuffle off in the end, hee, hee, hee!)

These days, the WBC is having more and more trouble spreading their hate. Banned in the UK, Westboro Baptist Church caught the attention of, Anonymous, in December when WBC threatened to picket the funerals of the children who were killed in the Sandy Hook massacre. WBC did not show. Then the Westrboro hate gang threatened to picket the funeral of Krystle Campbell. Krystle Campbell was one of three victims who died in the Boston Marathon Bombing. Anonymous again jumped in, brand-jacked WBC’s Facebook account while sending them a subtle message. Teamsters Local Union #174 also got involved and beckoned to the WBC group, “Show your face!”

Westboro Baptist Church opted not take the Teamsters up on their challenge. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/05/youre-not-in-kansas-anymore-we

I'm proud to be a Californian, and I hope WBC thinks twice before ever bothering with us again!

Oh, dear, more of those folks who "hate Christians." And in Santa Monica, too. I was born there, used to live there. It used to be such a liberal, tolerant place... ironic

America loves a winner!

I'm surprised these inbred nutjobs have enough $ to travel all over the country. How the hell are they able to afford these trips ? Did they win a lawsuit or several, or settle for cash sums, and that's how they pull it off ? Very curious as to how they're doing it, if it's donations or what.

Maybe the IRS needs to pay them a visit.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

Brenda: Excellent. Then my work here is done. ;o)

Yeah, born-and-bred NORTHERN Californian with 3-1/2 years in Afghanistan as a child, conservationist, animal-rights proponent, Buddhist, environmentalist, bipolar, bisexual, liberal INDEPENDENT (NOT "Democrat"), traveled the world but rarely been East of the Rockies or South of Santa Fe, and happy that way. You'll love to hate me, I'm sure.

Yeah, NewOld, things like this restore my faith in people, but man, those Southern Californians...talk about intolerant...! ;o)

Rap, if you don't think there are tons of 'Muricans who don't contribute equal tons to WBC, you're not awake. They're just the most extreme public face of what's alive and well in America today...and of course they pay no taxes, as a church...

Long live Crazy California.

And I do agree with you - WBC is disgusting on so many levels. Not at all representative of what Christianity truly is. This might be the only thing upon which we'll ever agree! Let us rejoice. Na, I'm sure we'll agree on other stuff too....

Is *ANY* christian church truly representative of what "Christianity truly is"?

1) They're a church. As in, tax exempt.

2) Part of their whole strategy, allegedly, is that they rile people up enough to lash out, and then they sue those people. It's how they keep going.
