Pamela Beck, 51, of Pinellas Park, was standing at the coffee shop’s counter about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, clutching several shopping bags and her purse and was about to pay for her coffee.

As Beck went to put down her purse, it dropped, and the .25-caliber semi-automatic Titan handgun she had in there went off, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz. The bullet hit her friend, 38-year-old Amie Peterson, who was standing behind Beck in line. Peterson was hit in the leg, above the knee, and was treated at Bayfront Medical Center and released, Puetz said.

Beck told police her father had given her the weapon, but she forgot which purse she had left it in before going shopping, Puetz said.

She was unaware she was carrying the weapon,” he said. http://tbo.com/pinellas-county/woman-accidentally-shoots-friend-at-st-

Once again, the myth that gun carriers protect themselves and others has exploded. Two recent shootings at Starbucks, which welcomes guns in its stores, show why responsible corporations ban lethal weapons on their property. In both shooting cases, women were given guns by their fathers to "protect" them, only to drop their purses and shoot, or almost shoot, other customers.

At a Cheyenne, Wyoming Starbucks in 2011, a juvenile girl dropped her purse, discharging her gun. "The bullet missed John Basile, 43, by about 12 inches," reported the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. The unidentified girl had never taken a hunter safety class or any kind of formal firearms training and had been encouraged by her mother to point the gun at a "bad person" if she were in trouble. Right.

This week, it happened again. Another woman given a gun by her father dropped her purse and discharged her weapon at a Starbucks, this time in St. Petersburg, Florida. The woman said she'd forgotten the gun was in her purse and had never taken it out to clean or service it, reported the Tampa Bay Times. A customer was shot in the leg.

The women's inability to defend themselves should surprise no one. Despite the bluster of gun rights activists, carriers do not make themselves or others safe.

Starbucks has ignored pleas from customers and gun safety advocates to ban lethal weapons in its stores which is the right of property owners. And, in the height of hypocrisy, it issued a statement following the Florida shooting which said, "At Tyrone Square Mall, our primary concern is always for the safety of our customers and store employees, and we are thankful that the injuries sustained are reported to be non-life threatening." What?

Would a business whose "primary concern is always for the safety of our customers and store employees" allow lethal weapons on its premises? http://www.alternet.org/speakeasy/martharosenberg/second-starbucks-sho

So if two people were injured or killed by, say, dogs, you'd protest people being able to walk their dogs in public?

How about if it was 4.7 million?

Reeeely getting boring with these attempts at comparison, Geezer; you should try a new tack, or give it up, you really should.

ETA: Not that it's worth bothering to respond to you, Wulf, but this just shows how idiotic you are. Nothing about what I post has changed in any way, you're just seeing something that doesn't exist. I'm going right on doing what I've always done; spending a couple of hours playing on RWED posting and replying, then going on with my day. That fantasy world you live in has some real problems, little man. ;o)

Why?

You keep posting up every instance of a problem with guns.

Why shouldn't I be able to address the problem of dog attacks? I get dogs lunging at me all the time when I'm out running, and their owners don't seem to think anything of it. On the local trail through the woods, they take their dogs off the leash, and I never know whether they're going to respond to voice cammands or not. I've even been knocked down by a 'friendly' dog that, I was told, just wanted to play. Not to mention the folks who bag ther dog droppings and the just leave the bag on the trail.

In D.C. and Prince George county in Maryland, a lot of folks like to train pit bulls to be agressive, either for dog fighting or just intimidation of others. Kids get attacked all the time.

Despite licensing and leash laws, 4.7 million folks are bitten every year, and hundreds of thousands have to seek medical attention, not to mention dealing with the fear that the dog that bit you might be rabid.

Seems like a concern to me.

Why? Because it's not about dogs, and everyone knows it. You've played the same game with "yes, but swimming pools...cars...knives...', etc. Everyone knows what you're doing, and of course you can post anything you like, just telling you how I feel, that's all.

Yup, I put up stuff on gun violence, climate change, rape, and a lot of left-wing stuff and anti-right-wing stuff. I try not to be too silly about it and put up stuff that has SOME validity to it; "Gee, we should worry about dogs" as a transparent come-back to "guns are a problem" isn't very valid, in my opinion.

I certainly agree about people who raise dogs to be aggressive, as well as people with small dogs who let the dogs run their lives, so that the dogs get aggressive and snappy, which is where some of those "injuries" come from and you know it. As well as a gazillion other things about dogs and other things. But you're not doing it about that, and we all know it. That's all. Enjoy your game.

Its called a falacy by false equivalence - but false equivalence is pretty much ALL you post - so your complete ignorance of logic, and your over-reliance on such fallacies are pretty much expected from you.

Are people allowed to bring their dogs into Starbucks?

Perhaps only in France, mon petit ami....

Actually, as long as your dog is well-behaved, I agree.
