Post insults that appear in other threads, you morons. Slights, sarcasm, put downs, sneaky nastiness and general nastiness also accepted.

Is this a good idea? Maybe if we each, individually (or at least, those of us willing to) made an effort to avoid our uglier nature, those who DON'T choose to would stand out, without inviting a thread just for people to be nasty to one another... just a suggestion, nothing more.

If people are not happy with it, let it die. But I thought it might keep people accountable for what they say. I do see some issues arising, as some people are very easy to call on their insults *coughkwickocough* and some are a bit more devious about how they derail the threads.

For example, I find 'Libtards' offensive, seeing as how I am perceived as a liberal on this board. So its an indirect insult.

"Teabagger" is a name they gave themselves. If it's an insult, then blame those who called themselves teabaggers in the first place.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't EVERY insult a "past insult"? Once a thing is said, it's in the past. There is no such thing as "the present" - only the future and the past. The moment you think you realize something, you only realize that the moment has passed.

No one will be surprised to hear that I approve of this thread After a period of time I would like to see a results thread with a tally of posters' insults, broken down into type of insult. Something like:

Type 1: Indirect insult - e.g. an insinuation that somebody is stupid

Type 2: Generic insult - e.g. asshole, moron, dumb-ass, libtard...

Type 3: Especially foul-mouthed, or very personal insult (personal being something that nastily refers to a person's known condition or trait, e.g. age, race, sexual-orientation, mental illness)

It's not personal. It's just war.

Sorry not to make myself clear.

I was wondering whether it would be useful to post insults that had been made after this thread was started, and not trawl through posts that had already been made.

It seemed contrary to natural justice to start a thread and post insults made previously, which is what I initially did, I suppose to get the ball rolling.

As I mentioned above, that's what I started doing, just for myself; I went through every current thread and only read stuff starting with THAT date. Partly I wanted to see if my perceptions were off, and partly I was curious if all our recent discussions of nastiness would have any future effect. I'll be curious to see if they/this DO have an effect; I think publicizing the nastiness is actually not a bad idea. It will be interesting to watch and see if it moderates anyone's behavior, and/or if this thread itself turns into a snark-fest flame war of people bitching at one another (which it hasn't as yet).

I guess "I approve of this experiment", in essence, and yes, I think it's only valid if we go from NOW; I, for one, am attempting to moderate my behavior and it will be interesting to see if anyone else does. I hope the thread sticks around, or is revived if it dies and things continue in the ugly vein they've become.

As to things like "Teabagger", Mike's defense is irrelevant; they discovered their error quite quickly and ceased using the term and he knows it. It's like saying the "n-word" is still valid because it was the original term. Whatever insults we've used on one another in the past, I'm only going to look at what we call each other from now on. JMHO.

Poor Mike; I'm on the fence about Who; I've watched it for a while now, but have found that since the departure of Tennant, it seems to have become a lot more convoluted and makes less sense (yes, I know, it's unfair to expect it to make sense, that's not what it is). It's starting to lose me, and I really enjoyed it for a while...

Just noticed, Ol Rap still struggling with English. It's that old I/me. he/him thing that they teach in English 100, 9th grade, in any educated state. It's called subjective/objective pronoun case, If I remember correctly, it was a LONG time ago that I studied it, learned it so well that it's automatic.

I threw the ball.
He threw the ball.

I threw the ball to him.
He threw the ball to me.

Better than I.
Better than me.

Better than he.
Better than him.

'Course it reverses if you actually include a verb on the end.

I threw the ball better than he did.

I also remember hearing that using I in that fashion was pretentious, phoney, and egotistical. I leave you to draw your own conclusion.

Confused; the way I always remembered it was to make the sentence about myself and see what fit, and your "hint" thing has BOTH "better than I" AND "better than me"; which is it?

For me, I'd have switched it around in my head "I could answer better..." so what Rap wrote would have been correct. Obviously totally unimportant, I'm just a language nut so that "subjective/objective pronoun case" ditty you wrote made me wonder.

I didn't tag 'em right and wrong. I meant to suggest, " Say 'em in your head, see which sounds right."

I threw the ball. He threw the ball. Both subjective case. Both correct.

I threw the ball to him. He threw the ball to me. I and he subjective case. Me and him objective case. All four correct.

Better than I. (subjective case in objective usage. Incorrect.) Better than me. (Objective case, objective usage. correct.)

Better than he. (subjective case in objective usage. Incorrect. Should sound obviously wrong.) Better than him. (Subjective case, subjective usage. Correct, should sound right. The last case of the set, to make the example complete, finish the comparison of I/me, he/him.)

My trick is to just use a simpler sentence of the same structure. -- "He threw the ball to me. He threw the ball better than me. He could answer the question better than me. "

Probably gonna get me sneered at, not by you, as a "Grammar Nazi." But that one doesn't bother me. Ignorance of the rules of the English language suggests ignorance of other things as well. Not to mention phoniness, pretention and egotism.

So people should try NOT to communicate effectively when they're online?

In your case one would have to say "Mission Accomplished!" You've proven yourself unable and unwilling to learn, a hallmark of someone with a low IQ. And as usual, in your pettiness, you lash out at others for your failings, and blame them for noticing, while you'll nit-pick every word, sentence, phrase, joke, or statement made by others.

And if using " I " instead of " me " is enough to confuse you, you're more simple than I thought.

Show me where. Quote the words back to me. Put up or shut up.

I'm not lying, nor am I wrong.

And yet you can't show me where I said what you claim I said.

Who said anyone was confused? Again, you seem to be responding only to the voices in your head, and not to what anyone here has actually posted.

KPO

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Kwicko to Auraptor, type 1:

it's not like you're any great shakes when it comes to the written English word. You could absolutely do with a bit more education on the subject.

You've proven yourself unable and unwilling to learn, a hallmark of someone with a low IQ.

Man, it's going to be hard work keeping up with these two!

It's not personal. It's just war.

This is beyond tedious and pointless. OCD comes to mind.

Hey, RAP, this is an INSULT THREAD. I'm saying it right out loud, and it's aimed square at YOU: "You're too dumb to have learned public high school English. SO any opinion you express is too DUMB to be given the respect we'd give an 8th grader."
And this will be the third time I've said this , also aimed directly at
YOU : You're pretentious, phoney and egotistical.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Kinda funny, but far more sad: Rap and Mike turned the "Insult Thread" into an INSULT THREAD!!!
Quote:

Stop this phoney b.s. of pretending that your grammar nazi routine is anything other than juvenile pettiness

Rap at his best; his first offering in a thread attempting to encourage people not to insult, and it's not a quote of an insult, it IS an insult. And he even claims "Not an insult"! That fascinates me; does Rap actually believe the above sentence isn't an insult?!?! SERIOUSLY??

Mike gets no points for picking up the mentality and doubling down, but here is the best, prime example of exactly what we've all been talking about (well, those of us who give a damn, anyway). Up until then, Rap received a small "chide" about his use of English, which is neither here nor there and totally unimportant. His response escalates to "bullshit", "Nazi" and "juvenile pettiness". Bingo.

Thanx for the explanation, by the way; I better understand now. Use of language is interesting, but no big thing...or at least, it's not that big to me. Obviously it is to Rap.
