An order giving white supremacist Craig Cobb five days to come up with a plan for installing running water and a sewer outlet into his home in Leith expired Monday and it’s possible the house could be declared uninhabitable.

The order was written by the Custer District Health Unit’s environmental health practitioner Aaron Johnson, who said Cobb owns two other structures in town that possibly will be removed next month.

Johnson said Cobb was given time to show the health unit that he will have potable water in his home and a way to remove it to a sewer outlet and since he hasn’t, the home could be declared uninhabitable.

Cobb, a hate crimes fugitive, has said he buys bottled water from Wal-Mart for washing and Johnson said he believes he may be using an old outhouse on his property.

Because of other complaints, Custer District started looking at vacant and nuisance properties in Leith before Cobb announced his plans to take over the community with other white supremacists and run the town's government.

Besides Cobb's home, Johnson said an abandoned creamery adjacent to Cobb's property, owned by Cobb, and a small house that Cobb is apparently selling to a Wisconsin man are in the process of being condemned.

More than 300 protesters marched up this small towns gravel road Sunday, chanting and carrying signs to rally against a visit by a leader of a white nationalist group and efforts to turn the town of 16 into an all-white enclave.

Because the area is so economically depressed, Cobb has been able to snap up 13 properties for a song so far (including a vacant lot for only $500). He has also been actively promoting Leith, ND, about 75 miles southwest of Bismarck, to his fellow racists on white supremacist sites as an ideal place to live.

Cobb proclaims himself “grateful” for the support of Jeff Schoep, the “commander” (aka "Grand Wizard") of the National Socialist Movement (NSM) who announced via video that: “Our trip to Leith is a gesture of goodwill as we plant the seeds of National Socialism in North Dakota.”

The video then reportedly segues to “orchestral music” and the tramp of marching boots, followed by NSM’s motto “Putting Family, Race and Nation First while Fighting to Secure American Jobs, Manufacturing & Innovation,” and the obligatory whining about white people being persecuted.

Standing in front of his house, Cobb called the protest, “pure comedy,” although it was a larger group than he expected.

He said the group “is not human.”

“They are a force of nature that has made a plan to impede on my freedom,” he said. Cobb wants to take control of the town’s government.

Asked if Cobb’s plan will work, Schoep said he hopes it does.

“You have to start somewhere, this is sort of a test ground,” he said. “If we are able to get off the ground here, then we can get off the ground in other places.”

Chase Iron Eyes, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, assured the crowd they will continue to watch Leith to make sure Cobb’s plans are not carried out.

“We are evolved human beings and I think you know you represent a dying cause,” he yelled. “You’re 30 miles from our (reservation) border, if you think you can come into our territory and threaten our children, you have another think coming.“
