Quote:

Obamacare is really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery,” Carson declared. “It is slavery in a way because it is making all of us subservient to the government.”

Carson said the implementation of the Affordable Care Act was never about health care, only control.

“That’s why when this administration took office it didn’t matter that the country was going off the cliff economically. All forces were directed toward getting this legislation passed,” Carson said.

Carson also made a comparison between Obama’s health care law to former Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin.

“Vladimir Lenin, one of the fathers of socialism and communism, said that socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state,” Carson stated.

Yes, a very rational man ....

Dr. Ben Carson

Career

Ben Carson was a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics and the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University.[3] At age 33, he became the youngest major division director in Johns Hopkins history, as director of pediatric neurosurgery. He was also a co-director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center.

According to Johns Hopkins Hospital literature, "Dr. Carson focuses on traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynostosis, epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia. He is also interested in maximizing the intellectual potential of every child."[3]

Carson's hand-eye coordination and three-dimensional reasoning skills made him a gifted surgeon.[4] After medical school, he became a neurosurgery resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Starting off as an adult neurosurgeon, Carson became more interested in pediatrics. He believed that with children, "what you see is what you get, ... when they're in pain they clearly show it with a frown on their face or when they are happy they show it by smiling brightly.[4]"

In 1987, Carson became the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins, the Binder twins, who had been joined at the back of the head, making them craniopagus twins. The 70-member surgical team, led by Carson, worked for 22 hours. At the end, the twins were successfully separated and can now survive independently. As Carson wrote in his book:

...they would always exsanguinate. They would bleed to death, and I said, 'There's got to be a way around that... I was talking to a friend of mine, who was a cardiothoracic surgeon, who was the chief of the division, and I said, 'You guys operate on the heart in babies, how do you keep them from exsanguinating' and he says, 'Well, we put them in hypothermic arrest.' I said, 'Is there any reason that – if we were doing a set of Siamese twins that were joined at the head – that we couldn't put them into hypothermic arrest, at the appropriate time, when we're likely to lose a lot of blood?' and he said, 'No way.' ...two months later, along came these doctors from Germany, presenting this case of Siamese twins. And, I was asked for my opinion, and I then began to explain the techniques that should be used, and how we would incorporate hypothermic arrest... And, my colleagues and I, a few of us went over to Germany. We looked at the twins. We actually put in scalp expanders, and five months later we brought them over and did the operation, and lo and behold, it worked.[5]
In addition to his responsibilities at Johns Hopkins, he has served on the boards of the Kellogg Company, Costco, and the Academy of Achievement. He is an emeritus fellow of the Yale Corporation.

In March 2013, Carson announced he would retire as a surgeon, stating "I'd much rather quit when I'm at the top of my game. And there's so many more things that can be done."[6] His retirement became official on July 1, with Carson saying he would leave the decision of whether to go into politics "in the hands of God, but much can be done outside the political arena." [7]

Awards and honors

Carson is a member of the American Academy of Achievement, and the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. In 2000, Carson received the Award for Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged, an award given out annually by Jefferson Awards.[8] In 2008, the White House awarded Carson the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.[9] In 2010 he was elected into the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine.[10] Carson has been awarded 38 honorary doctorate degrees and dozens of national merit citations.

When someone makes a statement like that, and like his comparison to Lenin, they simply take themselves outside the world of reality and rationality.
Quote:

Stewart pointed out the absurdity of saying the effort to get people affordable healthcare is worse than not just American laws like Jim Crow and slavery, but the Nuremberg Laws and the medieval law that said hte king got to sleep with your bride on your wedding night.

"One of the most insidious laws ever created by man". I mean, seriously...they've left reality so far behind they can't even SEE it anymore. Sad. But more disgusting than sad.
Quote:

Carson, who is a contributor to Fox News, assailed president Obama’s health care law, saying it is akin to slavery.

No stranger to controversy, Carson earlier this year apologized to John Hopkins University, where he is a physician, for comparing homosexuality to bestiality and pedophilia during an appearance on Fox News. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/10/ben-carson-obamacare-is-s
lavery/

This is someone ANYONE intends to take seriously??? Obviously nobody but the extreme right wing, which is so far gone there's no hope for them until they sober up anyway. He could be a great neurosurgeon, but outside his specialty, he's a real nutcase.

Really? A law about healthcare is as bad as the actual historical fact of slavery? And signing up to that ridiculous comparison is supposed to be smart?

And here I thought smart people have a sense of proportion.

Perhaps he was being a tad dramatic with the slavery analogy, but given the distasteful rhetoric hurled by Obama and Democrat leaders at Republicans I feel it's justified. Obama's the President, but he and his Congressional leaders have no qualms about calling Republicans terrorists, arsonists, anarchists, blackmailers, extortionists, and racists. Where's THEIR sense of proportion, or even political civility for that matter? Dr. Ben was speaking to fellow Conservatives at the time. At events like that there's a long history of speakers making provacative statements for effect.

Yeah, and for anyone to claim that Democrats calling Republicans "terrorists, arsonists, anarchists, blackmailers, extortionists, and racists" is a valid excuse for what Carson said is hilarious; should I take the time to look up every time Republicans have called DEMOCRATS "terrorists, arsonists, anarchists, blackmailers, extortionists, and racists"? Why bother, it would be easy enough but I'm not about to waste my time. It's gotten way out of hand. The fact remains, however, that those on the right have been tossing this stuff around for YEARS, and putting it on placards, along with Nazi, Hitler and a whooole lot more. Excuses nothing.

One of the odd things about the debates we’ve been having over Obamacare is how many people on one side of these debates believe that they can win arguments by pulling rank. "I'm a doctor, you have to believe me." Assertions are enough exertion for Dr. Ben Carson to win any argument. He never needs to do more to prove his case.

*sigh* Sorry Yoda, I'm just gonna try on this one...

This 'law about healthcare' is less about health and more about control. Control over one's life, by the Imperial Federal Govt. Which also condoned slavery. It's an apt analogy.

Let big 'Massah' Gub-ment take care ya, ( housing - *food - healthcare - job ... ) and all we have to do is keep votin' Democrat. Hell, beat's pickin' cotton out in the fields, after all.

* EBT benefit card glitch sparks Walmart shopping sprees in Louisiana.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/chaos-la-walmart-stores-ebt-c
ards-dump-spending-limits-article-1.1484953

Also, some places had NO EBT card access, which only highlights the problems of relying fully on the federal govt for your daily existence.

ETA - Anyone find it ODD as hell that these EBT snafus happen NOW ? Just days before the debt ceiling is met, as our govt is partially shut down, and during a heated political battle ? Officially, it was a 'power outage' which caused the EBT problem.

Really?

I'm skeptical.

Right. Regulating some aspects of health insurance so that an increased number of people can have affordable access to it is the same as human beings literally considered livestock by the people who personally (privately!) owned them.

Apt is no the word I would use.

Also, the Lenin comparison is just straight "Hitler Ate Sugar". http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HitlerAteSugar Lenin liked universal health care and oppression! All who like universal healthcare like oppression!! Please. That's just waving the buzzwords around a little too blatantly.

This I say, petting my German insurance system and the choice and security it gives me. It may not be perfect, there is room for improvement, but.. geez, it could be America. I have very little to complain about.

Yes, he's an Independent. He defends Obama all the time. You wouldn't know that because you don't watch him. You just rely on anti-Fox talking points from leftist websites for your knowledge of Fox, and that is bullshit.

And you have no problems with people here who attack the few Conservatives here with insults and profanity on a regular basis. But when someone gives it back it's only their fault. That's all you see, and that is bullshit.

And you still can't answer AURaptor's challenge to name a ranking Republican politician who has hurled insulting names in the manner and frequency that Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have, so you are full of bullshit.

It's not merely " some aspects of health insurance ", it won't be affordable for most, and it'll only make matters worse, not better.

Before anyone can even access the ACA exchange site and check to see which 'plan' is right for them, they have to divulge all manner of personal info, basically to the IRS ( the folks who targeted Americans for purely political reasons ). If you DO get in and successfully complete the online maze and get in, and decide you DON'T want to take part and choose to just pay the fine, guess what ? All that info you offered up ? Can't be undone. You can't delete your file. It's in your PERMANENT record, just like we all were told when we were in grade school. Only with these guys in D.C. ( both parties, btw ) they WANT exactly that.

To rule us all and in the darkness, bind us.

That's what the TEA party Americans are fighting against, as well as the colossal cost that will sink this nation even further in debt, thanks to the unACA.

All your online activity? Yep. In a file. Your comings and goings? Depends on how many private security cameras, public space government facial recognition cameras, toll both cameras etc there are. Your financial transactions? On-line including emails, see above. Electronic footprint including phone calls - see 'file'. Cash - see private security and facial recognition cameras, also toll booth cameras, airport cameras etc. Birth certificates, social security numbers, IQ tests, school records, evaluations, medical and legal records, drivers' licenses (aka 'real ID), car purchases, accidents and sales, arrests, convictions, probation records, marriage licenses, legal separations, divorces, and children (not that you'll ever know about any of that), property records, income and property tax records, business licenses, professional licenses - all in a file. Even your death, cause of death, funeral arrangements - all in a file.

And that information about you - bought and sold by businesses, as a commodity. And carefully gathered together by government and stored away - in Utah.

So you DIDN'T read her post. And still bothered to comment.
OR, you DID read it, and couldn't process the complicated info.
Either way you are the human definition of *FAIL*. Heh heh.

Actually, genius, I was replying to YOUR remark, that EVERYTHING is on our permanent record.

Your lack of a sense of humor ( and humanity ) is disturbing.

Fuck you man. It's all on permanent record anyway. Everything.
Dork.

Sorry, moron, you had this in the post "So, ' no it isn't ' applies."
So you don't even know how to make it clear to whom you are responding.
So I win. You have no case. You rarely do. It's sad. But you've proved me right again. You know I'm right. Kool-aid snorter. You lose. I am inVINCible!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Chris,IsAll
Fuck you man. It's all on permanent record anyway. Everything.
Dork. Oddly enough, Chris,IsAll didn't use the word 'online'.

littlerappy
No it isn't.

All your online But the word 'online' WAS used here .... activity? Yep. In a file. ... Your comings and goings ... Electronic footprint including phone calls ...Birth certificates, social security numbers, IQ tests, school records, evaluations, medical and legal records, drivers' licenses (aka 'real ID), car purchases, accidents and sales, arrests, convictions, probation records, marriage licenses, legal separations, divorces, and children (not that you'll ever know about any of that), property records, income and property tax records, business licenses, professional licenses - all in a file. Even your death, cause of death, funeral arrangements - all in a file. ... along with a bunch of physical activities and records.
Just waiting for you to reply "no it isn't".

little rappy
Not all we do is " online ". Since little rappy used the word 'online' he MUST be replying to my post, the first place the word was used.
So, ' no it isn't ' applies. And right on cue, little rappy takes the bait. How ... unthinking.

little rappy
Actually, genius, I was replying to YOUR remark, that EVERYTHING is on our permanent record. Now here he lies and claims something which is patently untrue, because he was replying about ONLINE activity. (see above).

Truly, I have to wonder - is there no end to little rappy's stream of lies?
