Why the 'No Animals Were Harmed' movie disclaimer doesn't mean much
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2013/11/why-the-no-animals-were-ha
rmed-movie-disclaimer-doesnt-mean-much.html

"The Hollywood Reporter reveals a long history by American Humane
Association of downplaying and underreporting animal injuries and
death and accuses the AHA of actually awarding the disclaimer to
films and TV shows where animals were harmed during production."
===================================

"Last week, We almost F--king Killed King in the Water Tank!"

Animals Were Harmed: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/feature/

"...the Bengal tiger who shares a lifeboat with a boy lost at sea,
were created using CGI technology, King, very much a real animal,
was employed when the digital version wouldn’t suffice. “This one
take with him just went really bad and he got lost trying to swim
to the side,” Johnson wrote. “Damn near drowned.”

'No Animals Were Harmed': Hollywood's tacit approval of animal abuse

"Gary Baum’s expose in The Hollywood Reporter reveals the deception
and corrupt inner workings of the organization behind the “No Animals
Were Harmed” notes on the movies we love. His investigation into the
AHA shows that the group “distorts its film rating, downplays or fails
to publicly acknowledge harmful incidents, and sometimes doesn’t
seriously pursue investigation.”
===================================

Color me Dumb, but I'm surprised by this expose.

Faulty assumptions about the way I want things to be:
I somehow figured the creativity as well as morality
issues we see in movies equates with respect and a
high regard for rights, both human & animal.

Life of Pi was soooo very busy trying to make sure you understood that you need to join a religion, any religion, even when they admit that they don't make sense (just like the movie- Hey, life sucks... so lets pretend it's funner than it really is by making up shit???)
that they just didn't care about anything else. Some asshole thought he was doing "god's work" what do ya wanna bet???

That movie bothered me. Show people some pretty animals and shiny pictures and they WILL buy anything... It was a two hour advert for people who live in a willfully oblivious fantasy land.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Yeah, OONJ - I thought, with all those stunts and special effects that it was possible to make realistic animal scenes without harming them. But I guess money corrupts everything.

Also, what WISH said about Life of Pi. THAT was 2.5 hours of my life I'll never get back again!

Keep the Shiny side up

Always wondered about the "No animals were harmed..." statement when craft services would be laying out ham, turkey, and beef sandwiches for cast and crew every day.

That being said, accidents are going to happen on a movie set just like everywhere else. Anecdotal stories of injury are just that. Show some statistics about the percent of productions that have animal injuries.

Nearly drowned, huh?

Much ado about nothing then, really.

I didn't see it. Sounds like that was a good choice for me.

If I want trite life advice without any context delivered via an appeal to the senses in a fake-exotic wrapping, I can order Chinese food and chow down on the complimentary fortune cookies.

Then mentally add "in bed" or "without pants" to every single dubious prophecy.

The tiger was CGI in all the shots that could be done.
Just a few shots needed the real tiger. Glad he survived.

They've told us for years, "No animals were harmed in this
movie," & we make a bunch of animal movies, 'cause we know
you love them ... yeah, they know this report is terrible for
their image and trust.

They've willingly betrayed animals & those who love them.

You know that scene in the late 80's Conan the Barbarian movie where he decks the camel ?
Well, hard luck for the camel - you notice that movie did NOT have this disclaimer.
Makes that scene a lot less funny for me.

Since many Hollywood phoneys give a lot of $ to PETA nothing will be done, this will be a big story for only a few more minutes then it'll go away.

PETA actually kills 90% of the animals they receive at their shelters now. They also think that all animals, even housepets, are slaves and mistreated.

I was a slave to my cat. I'm not sure about the dog. We have a power struggle going on. He gets on the couch whenever I leave the room, as if to say...'why should I be relegated to the floor, bitch' but then he gets off when I come back in 'only joking'
