It's not personal. It's just war.

Just a reflection of my affection for rappy.

Well aware of that actually - never claimed to be "better than", only somewhat smarter-than.

That said, I firmly believe it's possible for someone to voluntarily surrender their own humanity by way of conduct, or sell it to an agenda, and once that point is reached, I feel utterly no obligation to treat them as human, why should I ?

Also, I did mention "locked up in an asylum", did I not ?
Given that I believe RWA to actually be a downright intervention-worthy mental illness which causes them to be a danger to themselves and everyone around them (especially since most of em worship a serial-killer groupie) I'd not be opposed to treatment of their malady, but given they like their insanity, their fear, paranoia and violent acting out, I've no objection to mowin em down either.

It is what it is.

KPO

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Just creepy. Why can't people on the other side just be 'wrong'? Auraptor is wrong about everything. It's funny. It's also tragic.

*shrug*

That's all there is to it.

It's not personal. It's just war.

I am not sure war IS a different thing than that. You are committing to kill people in a war. And some participants in that war will be shitheads who break the rules of engagement to harrass or kill civilians or political dissenters or marginalized groups for the lulz and eliminate witnesses, then hide behind the fog of war. Support for any war enables this.

Yeah, actually I pretty much agree with you. There is a line that gets crossed once you commit to armed struggle, which is why it should never be done lightly or with bravado. But there are times when doing nothing, or even trying to negotiate is paramount to collusion with a violent and corrupt regime, which is where Mandela found himself.

And its about having the mindset that you are trying for regime change, not extermination of anyone who holds opposing beliefs. There are shades, whether you can see them or not, I'm not sure.

Because if you don't, you're colluding with their warped view of the world. That's not to say there should not be consequences for horrific behaviour.

My view is that all people are human and should be treated with humanity, regardless of their conduct. No exceptions.

I think that's kind of insulting to people who suffer from mental illness.

I believe communism, at its most hardline, was in to thinking like this. Hence you had re-education camps to realign people's thinking into something acceptable to the party line.

Frem, I get that you are a decent bloke, but I hope to hell you never find yourself in a position of authoritative decision making.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Thank you Magons, I appreciate your words. I find what Frem wrote abhorrent on many levels, and at the very bottom it comes down to: Who decides who lives and dies? The attitude Frem exhibits is bad any way you look at it, whatever side anyone is on. Anyone who thinks they have all the answers and would be willing to kill those who disagree with them is terrifying.

And equating RWA mentality with mental illness just sickens me, just as much as the worst things I've ever heard from rabid right-wing extremists.

You and me both, as I am all too well aware of a certain Robespierrian potential there, aware enough to *not* want such a position thrust upon me, ever.

That said, I was by no means insulting the mentally ill, for I firmly and truly believe that RWA *is* in fact a form of mental illness, and a seriously dangerous one - look at that creeper Zimmerman for example, how can one say there's sanity there, how can one say that he is NOT a clear and present danger to everyone and anyone in his immediate vicinity ?

Now multiply that by a couple hundred thousand, and you see what the problem in our country is, yes ?

Anyone who WANTS power is immediately suspect.

I am nuts, yet I run the other way if offered power. This is because I am not a total moron, and not THAT crazy.

I've seen too many people get a little power and immediately start abusing it. Board moderators and the like. That's why I like an unmoderated board.

Perhaps Rap needs a refresher course in the Price of Independence:

"Probably some 30,000 fighters died during the war. Civilian casualties are even harder to estimate. People who were not bearing arms died as the armies maneuvered, sometimes wantonly killed by troops, sometimes caught in the crossfire of combat. Many people on the frontier were killed in Indian raids. Others perished of the diseases that followed in the wake of the armies. Certainly the total of civilian deaths numbered in the thousands."

What's that saying: War is Hell. During America's first baby steps into freedom, there was armed conflict, armed hostilities. High Tea with the Queen it was not. The early Americans, in their struggle against royal oppression, did what they had to in order to gain their freedom. To the English, those early freedom fighters were known as terrorists, maybe not in name, but in spirit. Just ask Dr. Daniel P. Murphy:

The English weren't going to give away their prize possession, namely the New World, so neither were the South Afrikaners prepared to hand over the sweet deal they had in South Africa - not without a fight.

"The truth" my ass. All that was debunked, repeatedly, at the time. But give Rap a bit of passage of time, and he'll re-write the facts any way he pleases to suit his "narrative". Not to mention the fact that there's nothing about Occupy loving Mandela, much less anything about anyone loving the violence Mandela was connected to, or any of the rest of the EXTREMELY over-the-top bullshit he posts. Sometimes it just sickens me, this need to reach for the absolute extreme so consistently.

I loved Nelson Mandella in Roots. He was always my hero growing up in Reading Rainbow. I always thought it was a shame that trusting eyes like his were behind a mask in STNG though.
