Demi who ?

Quick video search yielded no interest.

However, props to the REM vid. Nicely done.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

Haha... Demi Moore's kid Demi Lovato, duh.

One of her songs actually is pretty pleasant to listen to, admittedly. I don't remember which one it is, but before I had to listen to Christmas music 8 hours a night it used to play at least once a night. I can tell you that it wasn't Skyscraper though. That one is pretty annoying.

Also, I second that motion on REM. Not my favorite song by them, but it still beats 99% of the crap that's came out since after 2000.

About hell though.......

I currently have around 6" of snow accumulated around me, but that isn't even close to breaching the outer limits of my own personal hell. I can still back my ass out of my garage, and with a running start get back into it without having to take care of the problem. Even then, I suppose I COULD break out that high-performance snowblower I bought 2 years ago and only used two times since..... Nope... even 24" wouldn't be "hell" to me.

You want to see something that looks very much like snow but isn't though?

Jesus flipping Cripes!

I let most spiders I find live inside of my house. I figure, if they're there, they must be feeding on something, so they're my own poor-man's Orkin Man. Even though I don't kill them, the bigger black and brown ones are collected in a cup and let outside. Sorry boys... You have to be paying rent if you weigh more than a few grams and want to join the feasting.

These spiders are pretty damn close to my worst nightmare.

The only scarier thing to me than that is this......

eeeeeeeeeeee!

eeeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaaa!

And what the heck kind of spider is that, anyways ?

A Google search for "clock spider" or "banana spider" will give you even more pics about it.....

That's a huntsman, a common spider around here. And that trick with the clock is pretty typical. I would swear they have intelligence.

Although large and hairy, they are relatively harmless. We don't kill them, we name them and glass them and take them outside.

I don't actually mind them, although they do have a habit of getting in your car. Worse experience ever was driving on a freeway when one dropped from behind the visor. I believe I had a small heart attack, but managed to pull over before I began shrieking and screaming.

Interesting, as this is likely how the Pyramids looked, upon completion, for perhaps a brief period of time.

Archaeologist say that they were covered in limestone, which would have given them a bright white look.

Wonder how long its been since the land has seen pure white pyramids.

That's actually really cool that you bottle them and take them outside MD :).

Not much flusters me on the road and I'm one of the only people in my family to NOT suffer road rage, but I can't say how I would have handled a bug that big landing on me while driving until it happens. Knowing that they're harmless from you ahead of time makes the idea easier to swallow, but that MONSTER seriously looks like a face-sucker from the Aliens movies.

Thanks for educating me on these "BEASTS". Living up north where everything is cold and dead now, spiders never evolved to being nearly a foot long. I sure do hate the winter, but I would hate me some foot long spiders and some giant flying cockroaches even more!

If you swear to me that whenever I'm in your southern territory that any spider that size and even vaguely resembling that variety isn't going to kill me after a bite, I swear that I will do everything in my power not to kill one of them, even if they drop out of my visor onto my lap. :)

Fear is ridiculous in the actions it can motivate people to take.

When I was a kid, I was an idiot and an ass (not much changed though, right?). This was really bad though. I used to stomp on ant hills for no reason better than "I could". I actually spent one day one summer when I was around 11 years old with a whiffle bat whacking bees that were flying out of a hive they had made in my step-mom's mom's house out of boredom. I would give them a nice whack and then drive the bat into the ground and crush them. I was REALLY bored. I figured I would do it until I got stung, but in nearly two hours I never got stung, even though there were quite a few other bees flying about that witnessed it happening. Sadly, I only gave up when I was even more bored of that than anything else I was doing before, that must have REALLY been boring to make that seem like a good idea at the time. I never would harm a puppy or cat or person... not even a frog or the very rare and very cool "walking-stick", but somehow all those tiny insects seemed to be so extremely inferior that "who gives a shit, right?"

It wasn't until a story my Kenpo teacher told me about a cicada and his kid and his own Kenpo teacher. His kid was only around 14 or so then, a year older than me. He bottled up a cicada and thought it was the coolest thing and was showing everyone. My teacher's teacher happened to be there that day and was one of the ones he was showing it to.

He didn't like it. He didn't judge. He didn't get angry. He just related the imprisonment of that creature in a jar to him being held against his will somewhere, while also educating him on the fact that this animal would die very soon if not set free. I don't remember today the exact wording, and I know I could never attempt to do it justice, but the point is, the message left a lasting impact on me. I'll never cry for stepping on a bug like the Tin Man did, but I do anything in my power to keep even bugs from being killed today. I've been called "crazy" on more than one occasion at jobs when I wouldn't let somebody kill a spider and I would scramble to get a cup and a piece of paper so I could let it outside before somebody did.

My Kenpo teacher ended up being my step dad one day. He's a pretty wise dude.

I suggest to any of you the next time you see a "scary" looking bug in your house, grab a cup and a thin piece of cardboard, scoop it up, and let it go outside, in your neighbors yard, even, if it's the only cure for those goosebumps.

Trust me... even if only for a few minutes, you will feel pretty good about yourself. :)

I kept a black female cricket as a pet for about two months when I was a kid. I had a little matchbox I lined with grass clippings every day. I feed her fresh mashed up spinach and potatoes. I'd take her for walks out on the driveway. Then my brother deliberately squashed her with a basketball.

My parents thought it was hilarious. So ended Chesterina.

I'd like to say I'm the kind of person who is nice to even insects and spiders, but even if I carefully put them outside, it's all a lie. Doing stuff that makes you feel better about yourself doesn't make you a better person. Statistically speaking, you've probably killed more insects in your sleep then you could ever save while awake. And it doesn't erase the past.

I can no longer even muster up indignation when someone pours melted aluminum into an anthill and removes the intricate structure when it cools. What hope do I have at faking like I have empathy, and what reason? No, it's better that I admit the reality to myself and live it.

Yeah I've heard that. They're also an invasive and destructive species. It still kinda strikes me as justification, something said to dismiss any feeling of guilt that might be warranted. But, being a hypocrite, I have no grounds to comment.

First time I saw this, I wondered where all the ants were. I mean, should't there be at least a few who scurry out and try to defend their mound ?

molten aluminum. I guess it does tend to make quick work of any ant that's in its way.

*ETA - OK, watched again, and I do see a few do get out, from the side of the mound, not the top.

Hey Byte.... :)

My condolences on your loss of Chesterina.

I'm not being a dick here. I totally get it. If you told me when you were 25 you named a cricket that your brother killed, of course, I would call you a mad woman. I would expect no less from you.

My younger brother made fun of me for singing "Toy Soldier" in the car with my other bro and mom when it was on the radio when I was a kid. Thus ended my singing "career" for 15 or so years.

On the outside, as a reply, "WTF?", right people?

I think Byte gets me here though :)

BTW... awesome first post.

I can't believe the PETA people haven't jumped on this already....

We just witnessed, on a very small scale, the Holocaust.

I'm glad everyone elses' lives are so sacrosanct that being OK with something like this is copacetic. Who can blame you, with all the thousands of horrible videos somebody under the age of 28 has probably seen today and grown up thinking was normal. (Thanks INTERNET!)

The "Han Solo" treatment to an entire colony of AntZ was made so awesome that I even want one of those statues.....

What if.... OH GOD!!! The idea is too horrible!

What if Woody Allan voiced the protaginst of that particular Solo'd colony?

It's truly weird seeing something that makes my stomach sick.

The internet accepts your insincere gratitude with sincere and malicious glee.

You can see the hivemind over in the corner, rubbing it's forelimbs together much in the manner of a mosquito. "Gotcha" it says, in a voice too high for us to fully hear or understand - we only catch the lower register, a shrill and vaguely irritating hum.

I'm glad that nobody I personally know ever cares to remember anything I've ever said before. Aside from only 2 in my entire family, I would be blown away if I ever got a meaningful quote from a famous person in a legitamate heart-felt speech before I die.

Thanks to Haken for making a place like this possible.

I may not thank you all that often, but on many days, and I literally mean this in a non sarcastic way... at least for the time being, however sad it is, the RWED is what fills my own personal "God Hole".....

Fire-ants make small holocaust targets. Striving for bigness, the RAF fire bombed Dresden in World War II. The destruction of the city provoked "unease" in intellectual circles in Britain. The science fiction novel Slaughterhouse-Five was motivated by that mass revenge killing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Dresden_in_World_War_II

Awesome reply, Two.

The same author also wrote a book called Breakfast of Champions, in which people with my last name are referenced. It's kind of cool since in pop culture in the last 20 years only a negative connotation has been made on a consistant basis with my last name.....

In that book, not only did the same author of Slaughterhouse V try to convince women that 90% of his dick existed in a 4th or 5th dimension that they could never comprehend, and their un-dimensionified dick measured 90 feet long, or something as equally absurd, but he made it funny to read.

Top 3 FUNNY AS HELL BOOKS.........

1. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (FFFFFFF the movie).... Hunter....
2. ANY right or left leaning BS book you ever read in the last 20 years....
3. Kurt Vonnegut's "Breakfast of Champions".
