Turley: Obama's "Become The Very Danger The Constitution Was Designed To Avoid"

Quote:

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he's not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He's becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch.

This Newtonian orbit that the three branches exist in is a delicate one but it is designed to prevent this type of concentration. There is two trends going on which should be of equal concern to all members of Congress. One is that we have had the radical expansion of presidential powers under both President Bush and President Obama. We have what many once called an imperial presidency model of largely unchecked authority. And with that trend we also have the continued rise of this fourth branch. We have agencies that are quite large that issue regulations. The Supreme Court said recently that agencies could actually define their own or interpret their own jurisdiction. (House hearing, December 3, 2013)

The OP stands alone. Agree with it, or not, and comment, as you see fit.

This is what the "lefties" on this board have been telling you for years, dumbass.

Now, why did there have to be Democrat in high office before you started posting threads about this worrisome concentration of power? Why do you start kvetching about it now, while you only defended it--loudly--when Bush was in office?

No, I don't expect you to answer, and I'm certainly not supposing that there are any light bulbs in your brain pan that could be turned on. Just need to point out your extreme hypocrisy on the off-chance that some lurkers haven't picked up on it yet.

M4P - You misquoted my original post. The part you attributed to me wasn't MY quote, but from the linked story. Please, if you would, correct that. TIA.

Bush hasn't been in office for quite some time. Obama is fully into his 2nd term, and the professor is talking of the EXPANDING powers of the Executive Office, under Obama.

I know Bush raised concerns from even conservatives, but Obama is furthering the trend. That's the problem. The ' fundamental transformation' Prez is seemingly going unchecked, by a compliant and willing media, as well as members of his own party.

There's no hypocrisy here on my part, what so ever. You lefties keep trying to tag me with that, but you keep failing, so miserably. Y'all probably should put it to rest, and deal w/ the current resident in the White House, no ?

This isn't about Bush. And I don't need to search any damn thing to remember what I said from 6 or 8 years ago. I and other conservatives DID have reservations about expanding the powers of the Presidency, as well as the entire Dept of Homeland Security Act. That we didn't go apeshit over it and call for W's execution , as the Left just about did, doesn't mean we were all on board.

Again, this is about what OBAMA has done, since Jan 20, 2009. We're now at the end of 2013. Yet you want to keep pretending W is still in office.

Why is that, exactly ?

"evidence of rape mentality " is absolutely ridiculous and an absurd, insane distortion of what I said. A JOKE, that Limbaugh made, and he was proven to be 100% right, on the REAL issue of the govt forcing insurance companies to pay for contraception.

In no way, shape, manner or form is anything he joked about or I supported have any damn thing to do w/ 'rape mentality'. That's just feminazi bat shit crazy, and you know it.

It would be interesting to see Mr. Turley cite some examples of how Obama is acting in an "imperial" manner.

Like by submitting medical care reform to the Congress for the full legislative process to play out?

Like nominating judges, even Supreme Court justices, cabinet officials, and executive branch officers to Congress and allowing them to be confirmed or not?

Like concluding international treaties and not submitting them to the Congress for ratification?

Like allowing legislation and Presidential acts to be appealed to the Supreme Court, there to be upheld or declared unconstitutional.

RealClearPolitics has always been a right-wing mouthpiece. I used to read it, just to see what my enemies were up to. It's no surprise that they found somebody attacking Obama, and printed what he said. I wouldn't expect THEM to back up what he said with specifics, any more than I'd expect Rappy to. But it would be nice if Turley did.

And of course, Rappy is slinging his usual BS by saying that this isn't about Bush. Turley himself says it is about Bush and Obama, and other past Presidents.

Hey, like that other thread-- if you can't throw in George Soros, throw in Saul Alinsky. ( But spell his name wrong?) If we were discussing California politics, you'd be throwing in "Governor Moonbeam" and Rose Bird, wouldn't you?

@ NOBC - RCP isn't the issue here,

Yeah, and neither was Bush. If the source is biased, its argument might lack credibility.

I've offered 2 examples here,

Funny, I just reviewed the ENTIRE thread, everything YOU'VE posted in it. I've read you repeating the charge a couple of times, but not a single specific example of anything Obama has done that involves increasing Presidential power or expanding the " imperial Presidency." I cited several examples of Obama NOT doing that, off the top of my head. Perhaps you could quote to me where you posted those examples.

Oh, that's right-- from your reply above, you don't have to defend your own own posts, or prove that you posted anything ever, or stand by your words.
You can get away with posting anything you want, any time you want, and that makes whatever you say retroactively true for all time.

The phrase "lying sack of gose hun-dan" comes to mind...

Ah, I see where the communication problem occurs.

Dismissing my point AS YOU ("at the same time as") disparage me is NOT ad hominem. It becomes ad hominem if your point is dismissed BECAUSE you are being disparaged for an irrelevant reason. In other words, if someone attacks you for an irrelevant reason INSTEAD OF addressing your point, they are simply using one of your irrelevant characteristics as a distraction. So either please grasp the concept more firmly, or learn to express your understanding more accurately. Also, as a reminder, please be more careful about using "always" and "never". They should almost never appear in your posts unless you can demonstrate that the words apply.

You know, another sign of Rappy's authoritative mindset is how he jumps on any possibility of a "leftist" making negative comments about Obama.

Imagine what it would have taken to make Rappy criticize Bush while W was in office. The worst presidency in modern times: he crashed the economy, started two illegal wars, increased the income gap while exploding the deficit and rolling back personal freedoms, etc... none of this made Rappy blink an eye, because in his RWA brain you DO NOT criticize your chosen leader.

He cannot fathom that things are different for anyone else, so if a "leftist" criticizes O: HOLY SHIT O must have done something AWFUL! LOL!

(Of course, that's unless it's a liberal poster here criticizing O. Rappy just blocks that out that because it goes against his "worship" theory. Which is all just projection, really.)

As to all this ad hominem stuff: Rappy, you long ago proved that you are incapable of on-topic discussion. In fact, not long ago I DARED you to stay on topic in another thread and you fled. Because you know you'll get spanked if you try.

To me, the only purpose you serve in RWED is to illustrate the bizarre ways that the RWA brain works. This thread is a shining example, and I will continue to assess you without any concern for all your bitching and moaning until you show you are capable of discussing the real world like a rational being. Such as: being equally critical of all ends of the political spectrum.

I am not holding my breath.

People addressing your points and asking your opinion is not dismissing your points.

You fail again.

You have also been the one avoiding making an staments on the original topic and have not posted any examples as you said.

So you want to get back on topic, do it. Give us an example of how President Obama has extended the power of the president beyond the Constitution.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

Hmm, let's see. What did I post?

I asked rappy if he agreed with his own post.
I QUOTED HIM, word for word, with references to thread, context, date and time, as my sig.

So, rappy: Do you dispute that you posted those words that I quoted? If they are YOUR WORDS, IN CONTEXT, what makes them an ad hominem? And, more to the point, do you agree with your own post?

Sell quick, at a loss. Drive the market down for the year. It'll be Obama's fault, and PROVE that he's not only a danger to the Constitution, but to the economy as well!

Every time rappy tells us how he just won - and we just failed - it's after he's blown himself up in an EPIC fail.

Really ? How so ? Elaborate, please. If you can.

And how is it a "FACT" about Limbaugh?

Oh, I have you pigeonholed quite well: You're an asshole with a lot of money who knows nothing about anything.

You haven't figured out what I think about Obama, despite that fact that I've made myself quite plain more than once. You know nothing about "the left" and nothing about the Nazi era in Germany. In fact, nothing about history. Nothing about economics. Nothing about science. Nothing about the Constitution. Nothing about logic. Nothing about anyplace else besides the reichwing echo chamber where you live.

Certainly nothing about how much I make in a year.

In fact, you are astonishingly, amazingly vacant about the great number of topics that you insist on posting about here in RWE.

Next?

Unlike you, rappy, I don't need to "believe" what a callous, cowardly ignoramus you are. I don't need to put words in your mouth, or make all kinds of suppositions about what you think and how you treat others. All I need is to observe. And to quote. And I imagine KIKI thinks the same.

As a proselytizer for your cause, you suck. But as a life-lesson to liberals about why "being nice" isn't going to change society (because ppl like you will never change voluntarily) you're doing GREAT!. So carry on.
