Not sure if any of you have seen this but it's quite enlightening, or it would be if we all didn't already expect it. I think the fact that the Congressman in question is a Republican is incidental, by the way.

Well there is some distinction between parties. You will NEVER find ANY republican politicians as honorable as Waxman and Feingold, both democrats. And the democrats - no matter how useful they try to be to the wealthy and powerful, they will never be AS useful as republicans. So while there's a great deal of overlap between them, on the republican extreme you have the teabaggers, and on the democrat extreme you have Waxman.

It seems that becoming a Congressman is like getting a license to steal. For the most part, you're right it crosses party lines.

Meanwhile, the Farm Bill quietly is passed. This allows Congress people, and their spouses, to collect payments (disguised as insurance) directly from the U.S. government. They even put in a clause that would prevent anyone from finding out just how much they would receive in payment. Yes, they voted to change a provision within the former Farm Bill that would allow for public disclosure of the "insurance" paid to those serving in Congress who own farm lands.

It was divulged that several members of Congress, who had farmlands, got paid several hundreds of thousands (in one case a member was paid $3.3 million) regardless if crops are produced. So, come rain or shine these guys get paid. Do you want to know when this was passed? During all the commotion surrounding the SOTU. The day of the SOTU, the Farm bill was passed. Congress surely managed to "take action" as the president has suggested.
By the way, that money is guaranteed by the full faith and credit of the U.S.

These guys have some nerve. They begrudge poor working folk unemployment benefits, yet they pay themselves through a form of government created to help farmers with their crops.

What a country!

Of course, the article fails to point out the little-known fact of the guaranteed "insurance" provision that was changed from the last Farm Bill.
Where did I learn of the change in the provision? By watching MSNBC! On the All In show with Chris Hayes.

Legal stealing, it's all the rage.

By the way, it's an old negotiating trick: to ask for much more than you actually want, then appear to cave in to the number you really want. The republicans threatened to cut Food Stamps by some $40 billion, but then settled on $8 billion. No doubt that they conveniently included the "insurance" provision to keep the amounts, and those who receive it, under wraps.

For me, the above, is a conflict of interest. If you own farm lands as a member of Congress, you should not be allowed to change the law for your benefit - to the detriment of the taxpayers, namely you and I.

There's a story going around that the reporter is actually a nephew of one of the Gambino crime family members.

That congressman might be the one who actually gets broken in half and thrown off the balcony if he's not careful!
