Susanne Atanus won her primary election for Illinois’ 9th district, with 54% of the vote. This is the woman who blames tornadoes, autism, and other problems on LGBT rights and abortion:
Quote:

“I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first. God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions. Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it’s in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God.” http://chicagophoenix.com/2014/03/19/atanus-wins-republican-primary-sa
ys-dementia-autism-caused-by-gays
/

In a survey about various policy positions that was published on ABC 7 Chicago’s website, she said that there’s no scientific consensus on climate change, because God controls the weather ( http://abclocal.go.com/wls/feature?section=news/politics/local_electio

)

Is there no hope for our country?

Well, she's close on the weather part, if she really is taking about the SUN, and not the SON. Or she could actually worship the Sun, so that would make some sense.

Not sure how gays cause autism though. Or tornadoes.

How close does one have to be to a gay person to turn autistic ?

And if gays do cause tornadoes, what's that say about Kansas, or Oklahoma ? And why aren't there butt loads of tornadoes in San Fran ?

Wait, did I just say...

I do apologize.

Let's not forget the rest of the article.

Quote:

Not long after sharing her anti-gay views with the Daily Herald editorial board on Jan. 20, the 55 year old Niles, Ill. resident was disavowed by leaders of the Illinois Republican Party and Chicago Republican Party. She was even asked to withdraw her candidacy.

At the time, the party issued a statement to Chicago Phoenix that insisted the party would not support the Niles-resident’s bid.

“The offensive statements by Susanne Atanus have no place in the modern political debate, and she has no place on the ballot as a Republican,” Republican Party Chairman Jack Dorgan said. “Her candidacy is neither supported nor endorsed by the leaders of our party, and she should withdraw from the race immediately.”

The 9th congressional district includes Chicago’s North Side where many of its Republicans hold moderate social views. The Chicago party organization stood up against Atanus’ statements.

“Atanus is not in any way affiliated with any of our efforts in the Chicago GOP,” said Chairman Adam Robinson. “Nor have we ever supported, endorsed, or assisted her in any way at any time.”

Atanus ran for the same congressional seat in 2010 and lost. In 2012, her name was pulled from the primary ballot for lack of signatures.

Schakowsky has a long history supporting the LGBT community in word and deed—supporting bills covering various LGBT issues in the U.S. House. Her congressional offices prominently display the rainbow Pride flag.

Funny how that got left out of the original post.

Geezer - It's all about controlling the message, and crafting the most negative image possible of your opponent.

That's how the Left operate.

Niki's a relentlessly dishonest propagandist for the Left, well-schooled by her MSNBC heroes. But there is something wrong about a politician winning a primary with such absurd views. The thing that's wrong are the voters themselves. Campaigning politicians are just a reflection of the constituents. The politican will say whatever they think the constituents want to hear.

It's as if they want that psycho in office. Strange how they jump to the defense of a certifiable idiot, though.

Thanks for clarifying that I'm NOT one of these so called " fascists " , as I clearly did mock said candidate per the views reported.

Well, to be impartial... there are a lot of extremely partisan right-wingers here. People who will excoriate Obama for doing exactly what Bush did, while failing to complain about Bush.

OTOH, there are liberals here who will stay silent when Obama does exactly what Bush did, while castigating Bush. Partisanship is demonstrated by both sides here- more on the right than on the liberal end, but there are partisan liberals here too.

Tsk, tsk Marky.

Auraptor and Jongs remarked on her stupidity, so fail.
Geezer posted about her non-support from the party, so fail.
If a "right winger" had posted such a cherry picked article, you would be leading the charge to hang em', so fail.
That about sum it up Marky?

No, but it's what they joy most in focusing on.

What does the fact that "the party" rejected her have to do with anything? She won the primary. I wasn't referring to "Republicans", I was pointing out who won a primary for national office. I KNOW there are plenty of intelligence Republicans out there, but that someone like this won their primary is what blows my mind. She's not MY "opponent" (and hopefully doesn't have a hope in hell of winning in the general), but I should think she would be any think Republican's opponent!

Bingo: THAT's what worries me about our country.

Good gawd, if a Democrat espoused such views, I'd post it in a minute and have a lot to say about it--I HAVE posted at length about idiot Democrats, and have decried Obama on so many things…sigh…but I know, there's only "us and them".

(Just to note, however; I haven't watched MSNBC in over a year, and I think I've gone to their website maybe three times in all that time.)

That's okay, tho', go on with your hate fest, and pay no attention to what's happening to your country...

Oh, bullshit.

Who was it who titled the thread "GOP Primary Winner Believes Marriage Equality Causes Tornadoes"?

Who decided not to paste the fact that pretty much every Republican Party organization disavows her?

Just more of your hate, I'm afraid.

Simple. When the Left said it, they were just trying to rattle sabres and win elections. Then 9/11 happened, and things changed. W came into office and the adults took over.

( And just so there's no confusion here, Iraq wasn't invaded because of any role in had in the 9/11 attack. But they were a terrorist supporting nation, and had already used WMD on its own citizens. As you say, things change. What was seen as 'contained' prior to 9/11 was no longer allowed to stand. So it was decided to once and for all end the threat, even if it meant the use of force. )

The inspectors ? It wasn't their job to tell us what Saddam had. That was SADDAM's job! He failed. Miserably. And payed a heavy cost for it. Did all parties involved learn anything from all this ? We might agree, you and I, that the answer to that question is sadly - not so much. Mistakes were made. Big ones. But at least W did what he thought was best for the country, and the world, and did so by getting approval from Congress FIRST, before moving forward.

Don't make me dig up the words of the Democrats, from '98 all the way until AFTER 9/11. It's a moot point, to keep going over that, again and again and again.
