I found this funny. DEA Chief Michele Leonhart is so desperate to convince people that pot shouldn't be legalized that she's really reaching. Her argument was that, if pot is legalized, our pets will die. She came to this conclusion on the merit of 2 incidents in 2012 where dogs ate large amounts of marijuana. She referred to an article in USA Today ( http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/03/24/marijuana-pot-dog
s-edible/6600763
/) about pets and pot edibles:
Quote:

“There was just an article last week, and it was on pets. It was about the unanticipated or unexpected consequences of this, and how veterinarians now are seeing dogs come in, their pets come in, and being treated because they’ve been exposed to marijuana. Again, it goes back to the edibles, it goes back to products that are in the household that are now made from marijuana, and it’s impacting pets. We made a list of the outcomes we thought that might happen in these two states. We never thought of putting pets down.”

The dogs who died (both of which were small breeds) ate large amounts of food which would make them sick even if it hadn’t been laced with marijuana. One ate a pound of pot brownies and the other ate a pound of marijuana butter...! Good gawd, a POUND of brownies would kill any small breed, chocolate being toxic to dogs!

It's very silly, but it did make me giggle. When I was a teenager still living at home, my mom's Cockapoo found my stash while I was at ckass. I came home and mom was panicking, Coco was pretty obviously "under the influence". I rushed to my room, and sure enough, stash gone! That little dog had eaten Acapulco Gold, Michoacan Green, Acapulco Red, and a goodly chunk of hash…little bitch… Didn't tell mom, just said "leave her alone, she'll be fine", which she was, totally out of it for a few hours, funnier than hell to see, but in no danger.

When Tashi was about nine months old, I ended up taking him to the emergency vet because he was acting weird. Vet spotted it immediately--I was sure he hadn't eaten any dope 'cuz my stash was untouched, but after thinking hard, remembered a few months previously I'd cut a bit of hash off and it fell to the floor…I swept but never found it, and yes, Tashi had moved a low table and rummaged around under the draperies right near there. He wasn't nearly as knocked out as Coco had been, just unbalanced and dopey for a while.

It looks about how you might think — a dog stumbling around dazed and confused, increasingly sleepy and, for lack of a better word, “dopey,” according to CSU veterinarian and associate professor Timothy Hackett. http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20130411/NEWS01/304110046/What-does-
marijuana-do-your-dog-?nclick_check=1

Yup, in both cases, that's about it.

So yeah, some dogs will eat even straight marijuana, if given the chance. And the fact is that dogs eat people food and get sick. They just do. Dogs tend to snarf down anything they like with no shut-off switch. If a tray of pot-infused cookies or brownies is left out where a dog can get to it, that is a concern. But it’s not necessarily the pot that is doing the damage. According to veterinarian Hackett:
Quote:

If you give a dog a stick of butter or a bowl of cooking oil — marijuana or not — it’s going to get sick. If you called me up and said your dog ate a whole tray of regular brownies, I’d be concerned enough to tell you to bring him in and induce vomiting. It’s nothing against marijuana. The way people buy medical marijuana (in edibles) … those items are already pretty toxic to a dog.” http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20130411/NEWS01/304110046/What-does-
marijuana-do-your-dog-?nclick_check=1

The point is, our pets rely on us to keep them safe. Idiots who get stoned and leave ANY edibles out that are toxic to animals are idiots.

I also knew a guy once whose cat ADORED getting stoned. He'd break out his stash and the cat would come running, meow, rub against him, purr. He'd put the cat's cloth bag on the floor and open it, cat would jump in, he'd blow a toke of dope in and close the bag…thirty seconds later the cat's paws would emerge from the bag, push it open, and the cat would wobble out and go curl up in a corner. Funnier than hell.

I've known both dogs and cats who loved alcohol, too. In Afghanistan, our german shepherd regularly made the rounds after cocktail parties, slurping up whatever was in the bottom of glasses she could reach, knock over or find on low tables. Mom took to locking her in the bedroom until everything had been cleaned up.

Also found this interesting:
Quote:

A study authored by Dr. Stacy Meolo of Wheatridge Veterinary Specialists in Denver and published in “JVECC” analyzed 125 cases of marijuana toxicity seen at Wheatridge and Colorado State University between 2005-2010. Of those cases...

-95 percent survived
-88 percent showed ataxia, or stumbling and struggle with muscle coordination
-53 percent showed a changing mental state
-48 percent showed mydriasis, or dilated pupils
-47 percent experienced urinary incontinence
-47 percent experienced hyperesthesia, or heightened sensitivity
-30 percent had tremors or twitching
-27 percent vomited

So even among those who had more serious symptoms like vomiting and incontinence, 95% survived. Sorry, Ms. Leonhart, major fail as a reason for keeping pot illegal. Tell those idiots getting stoned and leaving ANY of their munchies out to get responsible!

Sadly, there are plenty of pants-wetters who think legalization would bring plagues and woe. They're just being stupid, of course, but old lies die hard.

America loves a winner!

Well, that settles it. I don't want dogs to die!

NO POT!

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.
