And know what it is?
Serenity? No, that's next.
It was the theatrical movie of Battlestar Galactica.
No other sci-fi movie demonstrates as well how putting your faith in the bureaucratic mentality can possibly lead Humanity to the brink of ruin.
President Adar stands for every American President from Reagan to the present for me. All of them spineless players, ready to deal with forces of evil, rather than confront them. All of them willing to sell out on the recommendation of the various Baltars with whom they have and do consult. All of them letting the various Sire Uris pull strings to further their own comfort at the expense of the well being of the populace.

The original Battlestar Galactica is the ultimate Dystopia warning.

Plus: great FX, spaceship design & hot chicks.

Very nice. I finally got the blue ray box set of the entire series. I had been waiting and saw it dropped in price from about $250.00 to I think I paid $84.00 at Amazon.

Is the movie version different from the series disk? I am still not finish with the first disk although as with firefly I have seen them all many times on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Battlestar: Great stuff.

NO...... very cool I miss understood. Not the first time that has happened. Very cool

I wonder if we uploaded movies to say Microsoft Cloud in the public file, could we invite friends to view it. Not the world, friends.

Alas I have found BluRay in general to be lacking severely in quality improvement, rife with technical problems when not crippled by broken DRM or region coding, and specifically worse in audio quality on all levels than regular DVDs - The Avengers was particularly BAD in every respect on BluRay, mostly resembling the crippled and distorted macrovision VHS tapes of the past which were not only unwatchable, but would wreck some VHS players, IF they worked at all.
(and again, the DRM, Coding, and whatnot, some players just up and DIE).

I'll stick with the cheaper, actually watchable, actually functional, standard DVDs thanks, instead of pricier stuff which promises a lot and delivers somewhere between less and nothing, IF you can get it to work right at all.

I mostly agree, but the BSG movie in DVD is pretty washed out, the BR is said to be a big improvement. We'll see.

The first Blu Ray I bought was Firefly - a couple months before I even had a player.

Im a couple dozen past that, now. Though the old BSG never did much for me, so its not in the collection.

Hey Chris,

If you really listen to music, particularly more obscure music before the 80s (Reagantime), you'll notice that the feelings and thoughts you have about "all presidents after and including Reagan" were echoed at least as long as they managed to put the messages out in pop music. I've been told that if I read to my potential that I would find that this phenomenon is at least as old as our Great Country.

I was born in '79. My earliest "political" memory was seeing a newspaper with Reagan on the cover when he was voted back in what would have been November of 1984 when I was just creeping up on 5 1/2 years old. (EDITED TO ADD: She must have been a Republican, because my first memories of a President Elect were positive ones, even if it was just a re-election and I wouldn't have understood what that was if it were explained to me then.)

It's the only Kindergarten memory I have outside of this one, although I'm sure Reagan wasn't elected the same day I got caught "pulling a fast one" while playing some dumb kindergarten game involving 2 people, 4 plastic chairs, and two bean bags. I would have had zero problems winning this particular race 100 times out of 100, but I lost because I cheated and faked it right in front of 'teach. That was really a lesson there for me. The morale of the story, kids, is "don't get caught, stupid!"

I'm actually particularly fond of President Reagan's legacy and what he did for Our People, but this isn't the time or place to argue those things, and truthfully, I'm not an expert on anything so I wouldn't want to blindly go into battle with you even if I was sober.

What I think you might be doing now, Chris, is giving into cynicism, and potentially doing it hard-core.....

You're the natural born comedian of the group, brother.

If you're going to get cynical on us, at least do it in "an ode to Dennis Leary" type of way man, or even Lewis Black.... that guy's pretty damn awesome too.

The levity you can bring to a stupid argument...... Your natural born talents will go completely to waste if you start posting negative shit like when I post an actual political statement (very rare these days, btw.... see a pattern developing???)

I'm not going to laugh at you Chris. I'm not going to laugh at you for believing nearly 8 years ago that you were standing behind "change".

I'm not going to mock you Chris.

I'm not going to say I told you so.

I feel for you brother, I really do.

You so obviously are different than the Chrisisall I always remember from these parts.

Maybe it's because I disappear and come back that I'm the one noticing it. That's probably it. Somebody who talks to you everyday would focus on the conversations and not the Big Picture stuff....

You sound sad, brother.

Seriously......

Listen to some good music or read a book today instead of spending time in here. Don't dwell on the negative.....

For years I sad that GWB was the worst president we ever had. For several years after that I said I wish we had GWB back because Obama is the worst president we ever had.....

Honestly.... even though as much as 2/3rds of those conversations were from a "sober" me, back before I ever posted online drunk, They Were All Spoken From An Asshole. Period.

Without any proof of anything "weird" going on, anyone who talks or even things regularly about conspiracy BS is aptly and swiftly labled a "retard" for lack of a better PC word.

Honestly Chris.... How can you make some sort of "break" in between Reagan and Nixon?

As Billy would say, we didn't start the fire....

God and/or Spaghetti Monster bless his soul for spelling out everything for us in that AWESOME video, but long before MTV existed and well before either of us were born, the people "on top" were already planning all of this out.

The awesome thing is, at the end of the day, life isn't half bad......

I actually love where I'm at now, Chris.

I pay ZERO attention to any form of media news. The ONLY news I get is from family or friends at work on smoke break. I LOVE IT, man!

I know the gov's messed up. You know the gov's messed up. It's seriously to the point that we could talk the same way to family and friends in real life everyday and find ourselves completely alone because of what cynical assholes we've become.

That's only choice A though, my friend.....

I'm working on choice B....

EDITED TO ADD, BUT BEFORE THE POST: Haha... I just re-read your original post Chris. By my personal standards, not all that negative at all.

Still though, it's pretty negative for you.

If you don't take anything else from this long reply, know that it all dates far back before Reagan. Billy Joel is a hard core Democrat (*references needed). He's got my back on that.

When we make our uneducated judgments about shit so far out of our reach we sound just like as big an asshole as anyone who would sing this song and mean it........

God Bless All The Universe!

Once I found Serenity

Wrote in 1940

This Land Is Your Land
Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

Had to look up Cervical Pain before I replied....

I've heard of it, but my somewhat addled mind was screaming at me that Cervical was somehow related to Vaginal and in the 18.2 seconds it took for me to look up and read the definition of Cervical, I feel like an ass :)

I've bought 3 BluRay disks, the Firefly series, Serenity, and What's Up, Doc?; the Streisand/Ryan O'Neill comedy, a personal favorite only available on Blu Ray. We also bought a Blu Ray player, but it went completely to waste.

I think the format is a commercial failure-- conventional DVD has hung on, and is plenty good enough for most things. BluRay doesn't deliver enough advantages or superior enough performance to be worth the cost.

You might be onto something there.

I don't buy a "new" generation game system unless it's 50 bucks or less. Even with inflation I'm hanging onto that for old XBOX360's.

I love taking them apart and putting them back together again. Cheaply making them better than they were ever allowed to be.

Chances are at least 50/50 that you'll regret those BluRay disk purchases more than DVD's because the NEXT STEP is so close....

We're, seriously, only about one or two more "steps" to being completely unable to have conversations with each other if they somehow don't relate to a celebrity as an analogy.

It seriously wouldn't surprise me if the majority vote was for Kermit the Frog before I die.

Why pay for a small upgrade on the current formula? Wait a few years and spend that money on something so immersive you won't even consider "real life" unless you're told to.

The big bonus is that in 4-5 generations everyone will be born beautiful and genius, no matter what color or sex.

Perfection is on the way.

We're only unhappy because at least 49% of us are potentially ugly.

This is what technology is doing to us, and I'm completely fine with it.....

Weeding out ugly and/or stupid and/or lazy and/or otherwisely sadly normal people....

Even with my potential belief in God, I can make this work....

God's done "perfecting" everything.

He's given us the tools with girls and guys that are 15's on a scale to 10. He's given us men and women with 160 IQ or more.

Chances are greater than 80% that you're not one or the other....

In the new age of Politicians passing laws allowing it, we are already obsolete. If you're not smart or attractive, it's time to grab what you can and run....

Trust me....

Things are really about to get weird.... on a National Level

Do Right, Be Right. :)

You know something Frem, I've noticed that too. My standard DVDs look and sound better than most of my Blu-Ray collection. I have the Sony PS3 (actually a very good Blu-Ray player) and the standard DVDs are upgraded when played on the PS3.
I've discovered that when watching Blu-Ray that what is needed is a center range speaker (to go with the sub-woofer and mid-range speakers). That center speaker processes the dialogue, or spoken word, when set to "theater" mode.
When I bought my HDTV, I purchased it with modified theater sound capability, but whenever I would play my Blu-ray movies I would get a hodge podge of audio quality. Playing my standard DVDs - everything is enhanced, including sound quality. Go figure!

Yeah.... if you can't tell the difference between HD and SD, there is either a problem with the TV (or its settings) or your eyes. When properly configured, the difference is unmistakable.

Or maybe you're just using a really small screen (at which point you have to be only inches away to see the difference).

And yeah - Ive watched The Avengers on both formats, several times - if you think the Blu version looks like an old Macrovision VHS - damn, you have got your setting MASSIVELY off.

I still have a VCR too!

It's a last-generation Sony with '19 micron heads'... whatever that means.

Always struck me as odd that it wasn't an even number of heads. For all I know the very first and original VCR had 19 micron heads and wouldn't have functioned without them.

I saw a statistic that showed over 60 percent of homes still had, using them much or not, VCRs. It made no sense to me until I got to the part were it said most peoples home movies were on VHS tapes.

I technically still have a VCR - but it hasn't been used, or even connected to a TV, in a decade. So Im not sure how meaningful that statistic is to actual usage.

Quick bit of trivia: The last feature film that was actually released on VHS commercially was "A History of Violence" 9 years ago*.

*Yeah, okay, the horror flick VHS did a limited run of vhs copies, for obvious promotional purposes.
