From my US History or was it Civics? class ... I've thought that
impeachment went a bit further than the Accusation. That it included
the discussion of the alleged crimes. However, my instructor told us
that, whether the accused is found guilty or innocent, he has still
been impeached.

So it would mean, an elected official is accused & set for trial by
congress/parliament.

No?

Yes, At the federal level, the impeachment process is a two-step procedure. The House of Representatives must first pass, by a simple majority of those present and voting, articles of impeachment, which constitute the formal allegation or allegations. Upon passage, the defendant has been "impeached". Next, the Senate tries the accused.

"RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanours, and that the following articles of impeachment to be exhibited to the Senate:

Hey Miker, you got that part right.
Now you can just refer back to your linky and see that it is the text of the Articles which was ADOPTED by the House Judiciary COMMITTEE on July 27. COMMITTEEs cannot Impeach. The COMMITTEE recommended to the full House that the Articles be voted on, by the full House. If the full House had voted a majority, then Impeachment would have occurred, but it did not.

I was not incorrect. I was correct and accurate.

I guess this part was not in Tom Clancy's book huh? I guess you meant a modern day Conservative huh? I am liberal on some issues and conservative on others. It is called balanced.

Article 1

"RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanours, and that the following articles of impeachment to be exhibited to the Senate:

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT EXHIBITED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN THE NAME OF ITSELF AND OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AGAINST RICHARD M. It's an issue of timing whether the impeachment was official yet. I'm inclined
to agree with JSF.

The Judiciary Committee had drawn up the Articles of Impeachment to present
to the House. Knowing this, Tricky Dick decided to "slip out the side door," as
it were, before the HoR could read the Articles, discuss and vote on them.
He wasn't impeached unless/until the House agreed that he was.

Author unknown, here's the link:
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/sociopolitica/sociopol_bushimpeachme
nt02.htm

"To impeach the President of the United States, a majority of the United States House of Representatives must agree to pass a resolution that alleges the President committed "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." This impeachment resolution is also commonly called an "Article of Impeachment" and spells out in detail the charges against the President.

"The House of Representatives then exhibits these Articles of Impeachment to the United States Senate since the latter body has the "sole Power" to "try all impeachments." ...

"In the House, the Judiciary Committee is the typical committee to where impeachment resolutions are referred. The Judiciary Committee has formally reported to the full House of Representatives impeachment resolutions against four Presidents: John Tyler, Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton. Of those four Presidents, only Johnson and Clinton were impeached by the House. Both were acquitted by the Senate.

"Nixon resigned after the Judiciary Committee recommended impeachment but before the full House considered the report. (Nixon resigned apparently after being told that his impeachment and conviction were near certainties by Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, a conservative Senator who ran for President in 1964.)"

^ Maybe not.

"The House Judiciary Committee usually sends the greatest number of
substantive bills to the House Floor each year."

One of the things the HJC does is, it composes & proposes New Laws.
When they create a new bill and send it to the House for discussion &
ratification, it says much the same as it will when it's voted in or voted
down. A bill is a proposed law with no power to enforce anything.

The HJC wrote in present tense, "RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon,
President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanours ..." It wasn't a Law when it went to the floor on July
30th. It wasn't a law even on 9 Aug 1974, when Nixon resigned. ...
It was a suggestion.

Don't we have any Legal Eagles in RWED to explain this to us?
Or ... would we have to pay 'em?

As I (now) understand it, an impeachment is finalized by a trial of some sort, it's not like writing a 'law'. Even though he resigned, he would have been found guilty had it proceeded without his being pardoned, that's basically a TKO in my book.

House Judiciary Committee can't impeach.
The House of Representatives didn't make haste to approve the Articles.
The House of Representatives can't impeach someone who is no longer a
federal employee, i.e., the EX-president.
Had Nixon not resigned, his impeachment was a near certainty.

Jeeeesh .... what a bunch of dumb-ass buffoons!

There's all this mental masterbation here, and then there are historical facts.

It's simple research ... ONLY 2 U.S. Presidents have ever been impeached. They are Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. In BOTH cases the U.S. Senate acquitted them after a trial of the charges. Johnson was saved from removal by only one vote.

Nixon was never impeached, and he never plead guilty to anything. He resigned instead. He was later pardoned by Ford as protection against any future charges for crimes he may have committed.

Yes. It wasn't good enough for the Democrats that Nixon resigned in disgrace. They felt cheated and that justice had not been served. And so did much of the country. As a private citizen he could have been charged by the Justice Dept. for crimes he committed as President, and he also could have been sued by those that did plead guilty and went to prison. Ford wanted to put it all behind the country and move on. He was harshly criticized for doing it, and it was the main reason he was not re-elected in 1976. All in all, it may have better if Nixon had not resigned; if he had stayed in Washington and gotten impeached and then tried. It was cowardly to resign. I guess he just gave in to Republican pressure to make it all go away as fast as possible. That strategy worked, because in just 4 years a Republican was back in the White House, and the Reagan/Bush run lasted 12 years.
