As He Gets 10-Year Sentence, Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's Party Affiliation Disappears or Is Downplayed

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was sentenced to 10 years in prison today on fraud, bribery and related charges. In a January 2006 appearance on PBS's Tavis Smiley Show, Nagin, who in many several previous news reports had been described as a Republican who became a Democrat once he sought political office, told Smiley that he "never was a Republican" and he has been a "life-long Democrat."

As would be expected, several media outlets are failing to report Nagin's declared status as a "life-long Democrat." A particularly egregious example is at USA Today (saved here for future reference, fair use and discussion purposes, and in case USAT makes revisions; HT longtime NB commenter Gary Hall; bolds are mine):

Former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, the businessman-turned-politician who became the worldwide face of the city after Hurricane Katrina, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday.

Oh no, the mayor of "Chocolate City" is going to prison. What a damn shame. Who would have ever guessed that the pre-Obama poster boy for Democrat ineptness, incompetence, and sheer stupidity would also be a criminal, convicted on 20 of 21 charges, including extortion, bribery, money laundering, perjury, and racketeering. He gave us all so much back in 2005. He'll be missed.

Abe Lincoln once said,

"Nearly all men can stand adversity,
but if you want to test a man's
character, give him power."

All the articles Ive read had his party in the first sentence.

But when would reality ever stop a wingnut fundie from pretending its a scandal, right?

I chose not to touch it except in the way I did to show my disgust with anyone who goes down the path Nagin went. I did not want to get caught up in a tit for tat.

That fine non-partisan ( Yah, sure, you betcha she is...)commentator, Ann Coulter, has a column over on the Yahoo News Opinion page:

http://news.yahoo.com/tea-party-learn-al-gore-223010395.html

about stolen elections and the victims who complain about them. Funny things, all the folks who had elections stolen from them were Republicans. NO R would have EVER stolen one from a Democrat. Fer shure...

Nagin doesn't have to enter the pen until Sept. You or I would get that same leeway. , I'm sure.

Wow. You woke up? You finally figured it out?
Or perhaps you are still resistant to truth and fact, and are merely sarcastic here.

Are you implying that libtard sources on the web are subject to digital manipulation? That is preposterous! Web based data is secure! Involatile! Locked down! In a lockbox! Shirley you are paranoid.

Why not Spitzer? MSM always claimed he was a Republican.

Didn't read the article. Did it mention that he was the sole authority, the only person, who prevented George Bush from helping New Orleans when Katrina hit, the only one who refused to allow Federal assistance?

Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco, a Democrat, was the person who told Bush to keep the Feds out of New Orleans. But after a few days the crisis became apparent and she reluctantly asked for Federal assistance. Bush's mistake was following the law and listening to that crazy libtard bitch.

List of felonious big city mayors also should include DC's Marion " crack pipe " Berry and ATL's 'Vegas' Bill Campbell.

Again, both Democrats.
