The silence on the Arab streets over the Gaza conflict speaks the loudest to what Arabs think of Hamas. Aside from Palestinians on the West Bank marching for a day or two the rest of the Middle East remained quiet. Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood who supported Hamas has had its back broken in the Middle East. This is a major shift from similar battles between Hamas and Israel. In the past Hamas had friends at the bargaining table. Today they do not.

Another shift is Hamas being absorbed into the PLO. Any negotiating today will be done in a way that gives credit for any gains to the PLO and not Hamas. It will also give the PLO as much control of Gaza as possible. It hopefully works the way it did in Ireland when the more radical parts of the IRA were absorbed into the main body of the resistance.
