This is easy. It is what we always do. We know the socialist countries will do nothing so we will assist in any way we can. Then we will be accused of creating the situation in the first place. Like always....

How about when you start a thread OLDENGLANDDRY you offer an opinion as well and not just a link.

During WW11, the Russians lost 20 million or more. 6 million Jews were sent to gas chambers, and two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. Do you know anything about the history of the world? Or is it just in your nature to not understand the context in which Obama was speaking.

Dude... WW2 was almost 60 years ago.

I think the context in which Obama was speaking was a 10 minute time span from the moment he said those words. In all seriousness, with what is going on all across the world, Barry's comment was a monumental gaffe. If Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin had said it, the MSM would be going ballistic in their indignation, and how uncaring and lacking in empathy it was to ever say.

SNL would likely have reoccurring skits on it.

Holly shit you crack me up. Obama says through out history and you say dude, WW11 was sixty years ago. No, rap you don't understand what he is talking about. So I will explain it to you. Through out history means today and the past. We have people who post on these threads that are well over 60.

Sometimes you have to remind people of the past so they can put today into context. Each new generation wants to suggest they live in or are going through a defining moment in history. That it is somehow worse today than it ever was before. So I will say it again.

WW11 saw 20 million Russians with 6 million Jews killed and two nuclear bombs go off in Japan, and that was not the half of it. How many Germans, French, English and Americans lost their lives. How many from the Middle East or Asia? Many today can't believe the destruction in Gaza. I'd remind there was not a city in all of Europe that didn't look worse. I say try and keep some perspective here, which was Obamas point.

History - At the beginning, when the Bush Administration (remember those guys) started this whole fiasco, little did Obama know that he would be thrust into the middle of this mess in the Middle East.

Yes, he did campaign to be out of there. But this is a humanitarian crisis!
It's funny how thousands of miles away, an ocean apart, there's a situation that calls for the world's response, yet, unlike in the Central American humanitarian effort, people are calling for a response to help those poor folk. I think both needs to be addressed in a timely manner.

Young girls, in both instances, are being hauled off and raped by the gangs/terrorists. Little children are being starved and dehydrated to death. To me, there's no difference. Go in and blast away, I say. Fuck the ISIS!

But wait, aren't they the Sunnis that were tortured and mistreated by the Shiite's. The Shiite's were propped up by the US to be in charge as long as elections were held. Of course, that went well. Hmmmm, and people wonder why America is hated in that region. I remember watching MSNBC and hearing the experts say that Bush had no exit plan for Iraq (hell, he had no entrance plan either). That is the crux of the matter...........no plan.

And still no trace of WMDs. Lucky for us there aren't any.

WW2, which was almost 60 years ago, was also the biggest war humanity has seen. YOU trying to suggest that, hey , things aren't as bad now as they were then, doesn't say very much. War and violence have broken out across N.Africa and the Middle East. Ukraine too. There's civil unrest in Europe and S. America. N.Korea is a giant concentration camp, and China is rattling sabres over in the far East.

Obama's point is almost laughable.

I can't believe this one. Obama approved air strikes, and the US military carried them out, like, same day. One of the fastest decisions in American history, and certainly the fastest of the Obama administration. Sorta a token response, only 2 planes, but it's still impressive, time-wise.

Good idea or not, still not sure on that.

The US military doesn't need 'months' to strike at 2 targets in Mosul. And if it does, then things have deteriorated in our military far worse than many had feared.

WTC bombing 1993

USS Cole

Khobarr Towers

WTC attacks 2001 ...

We're 'safe' here, so what's the big flippin' deal, huh Chrissy ?

( full disclosure - I did not watch the entire video. I'd like to believe it ends with everyone playing happily w/ puppies and kittens, but I kinda doubt it. )

How is it that this band of thugs and killers can take over an oil field and immediately start making money off of it ? Where is that oil going ? Who is buying it ? Aren't there contracts and controls which track such things ? This is baffling.

And they've taken 300 women as sex slaves. How then do they justify stoning 2 of them for adultery ? I know, trying to make sense of these animals is pointless.

For them, a woman being an unwilling sex slave is just fine, but being a willing adulterer is very bad.

As to the oil ... they just need to call it a U.N. Food For Oil deal and they can skim off the scam like the Husseins did.

Too funny!

Meanwhile -

Hillary Clinton joins critics of Obama's response to ISIS in Iraq

“The failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad—there were Islamists, there were secularists, there was everything in the middle—the failure to do that left a big vacuum, which the jihadists have now filled,” Mrs. Clinton told The Atlantic.

...

"One of the reasons why I worry about what’s happening in the Middle East right now is because of the breakout capacity of jihadist groups that can affect Europe, can affect the United States,” she said. “Jihadist groups are governing territory. They will never stay there, though. They are driven to expand. Their raison d’etre is to be against the West, against the Crusaders, against the fill-in-the-blank—and we all fit into one of these categories. How do we try to contain that? I’m thinking a lot about containment, deterrence, and defeat.”

Iraq's RG was never " all that " to begin with, and since al-Maliki took control, he put in a lot of incompetent twits in high places in the military, which sent morale down the tubes. That's in large part why the forces folded like a house of cards vs ISIS, because the commanders were all cowardly political appointees, and not solid military men. Once they failed to show any leadership what so ever, and left the soldiers to fend for themselves, the Iraqi army fell like cut blades of grass.

It really was a perfect scenario ( coincidence ? ) that ISIS walked into with Iraq. No US military to deal with, a totally incompetent leader of a country already fractured, and then a military which could not operate once its command structure evaporated like an mirage on the hot desert plains.
