I've not dwelt on this topic too much, as I knew the reaction it would stir up w/ folks here. I recall having brought up the " being white " charge about how when black kids who excelled in school, are treated by their peers. Sure enough, the one time I made mention of it, I was routinely mocked.

' Only a white, Southern, straight male would dare to utter such nonsense. '

Guess again.

Quote:

"For some reason we are brainwashed to think, if you're not a thug or an idiot, you're not black enough. If you go to school, make good grades, speak intelligent, and don't break the law, you're not a good black person. It's a dirty, dark secret in the black community.

"There are a lot of black people who are unintelligent, who don't have success. It's best to knock a successful black person down because they're intelligent, they speak well, they do well in school, and they're successful. It's just typical BS that goes on when you're black, man."

I was never a fan of his during his playing days, but since then he's matured and acquired some wisdom as a broadcaster. But he makes this statement as if he has some special and unique perspective on the subject. He doesn't. Other successful black athletes, politicians, lawyers, journalists, entertainers etc. would simply say 'that's something I never pay any attention to'.

Sir Charles may not always be right, but he does speak his mind. And on THIS matter, at least, he's speaking from experience.

Fox Business's Charles Payne has said all this sort of stuff before, but because he's got a background in finance, and not rap music or hoops, he's IMMEDIATELY written off as an oreo, uncle tom, etc...

Glad Charles came out and finally said something though. Russell Wilson has done things the right way, stayed out of trouble, not tatted up and made himself to look like a common thug. Plenty of room in the world for more good guys.

Speaking of Charles Payne, who I idolize, do you know that Terry Keenan died this weekend from a cerebral hemorrhage? She hosted Cashin In and helped create all those great Saturday morning finance shows. A great talent, a beautiful woman and mother. R.I.P.

Holy crap! I didn't know. That's freaking terrible news. She was a gorgeous woman. Style and smarts... reports said cerebral hemorrhaging... what the hell caused that ?

Yeah, her sudden shocking death really shook me up when I learned of it watching Cavuto yesterday. He played a wonderful video tribute to her amazing life and career, which only made the pain worse for me. Cavuto'c voice quivered as he fought back the tears. So damn sad. She was such a sparkling gem. I'll be watching this Saturday to see what Charles Payne, Jonathan Hoenig, Wayne Rogers, Steve Forbes, and the rest of the gang have to say.

It's worth noting that there isn't much difference between Barkley's claim that "there are a lot black people who are unintelligent" and the claims of a garden-variety racist. I assume that Barkley meant to say something more nuanced. That more charitable analysis, though, is far from a "dirty dark secret." The notion that black irresponsibility is the sole cause of the "race problem" is widely shared among black America's most prominent figures, beginning—but not ending—with the president of the United States.

The Charles Barkleys of the world and the racists who approvingly quote him pretend that they are exposing some heretofore arcane bit of knowledge. In fact they are employing two of the most disreputable traditions in American politics—false equivalence and an appeal to respectability. This is the black tradition that believed that "black brutes" deserved lynching in the early 20th century, and believes that those same brutes are responsible for the "achievement gap" in the 21st.

I simply maintain that if aliens from outer space were to compare today's socioeconomic realities of the black community with the history of their treatment in the USA, they would not be mystified. But respectable politics is, at its root, unable to look into the cold dark void of history. For if black people are not the problem, if the problem truly is 100 percent explained by white supremacy, then we are presented with a set of unfortunate facts about the USA.

I'm pretty sure that Chuck wasn't in any way talking about Obama here. Not sure why it's even an issue.

How is it " racist " to agree w/ a black man's point of view ? Do you even KNOW who Charles Barkley is ? And he's not talking about lynching from 90 years ago, so I have no idea why you even go there.

So, when he says it's a black problem, that BLACKS are the ones holding themselves back more than anything else, you ignore him, ignroe what he's saying, and revert back to 'white supremacy ' , as you dismiss the entire point he was making.

Charles is saying blacks, as a whole, make very poor choices, where they hold 'street cred' in higher regard than education, achievement and advancement, and because of that, they come off as being unintelligent.

And to be clear, he's talking about blacks TODAY, and their need to take care of their own, NOW.

I'm pretty sure no one is letting those who put blacks into slavery off the hook. That's not what this is all about.

I live in Texas and Barkley talks exactly like racists I know, but he is an over paid, over privileged black, so he can get away with it. I've been following his opinionated mouth since his days at the Houston Rockets. He always talked stuff, thinking he can push through on charm. And it works for him. But it won't work for AURapture.

I understand Barkley and you. I was visiting Shirley's grave in Barrett Station, yesterday. Barrett Station is the wrong side, the black side, of the highway in Crosby, Texas. My sisters say it is Shirley's fault that Shirley's dead. I disagree. I read the autopsy. I talked to the Sheriffs and today I'll be trying to get the written report. My sisters are being deliberately ignorant, picking only some facts about Shirley and ignoring all the others. Ignorance is one strategy out of many in politics – pretend to not understand. Or, even worse, yet more politically effective, actually to not understand. If Charles Barkley wants to play an ignoramus, since that is his way, I won't stop him. He's got to do what he's got to do. As does AURapture. It's who they are.

I guess you're welcome. Might be better if you didn't dismiss his views, his life experiences, & insult him because what he says doesn't sync with your PC ideas. And dropping the idea that it's somehow " racist " to think that individuals are more responsible for their own lives, that their own choices have more to do w/ how they live ? Really? You just called a black man from Leeds, Alabama a racist for thinking for himself.

" he is an over paid, over privileged black"

Wow. Sounds like you have far more in common w/ the KKK types than anyone else.

And in case you missed it, the points Charles is saying aren't new, aren't unique to HIS experiences, and are in fact quite well known in the black community. Just because you may not like hearing it doesn't mean they're not true.

Wrong. I said it because 2nd was indeed rambling and making no sense, what so ever. And I may have used that 'go-to' response, what, 4 times - EVER ? ?

Not only did 2nd ignore the entire POINT that Barkley was making, he / she then went on to assign 'racist' reasons for why Charles was saying what he said, AND THEN went on some irrelevant, nonsensical commentary about "Shirley " dying, as if that had 1 damn thing to do w/ the issue !

It didn't !

I'm sorry she died, but who the fuck is Shirley ? And why bring up Shirley in this thread ??

Well, feigning ignorance is a classic Left wing staple, but it does not apply here. The issue is straight forward. 2nd won't comment on it, so instead, drags out the 'racist' card.

Pretty weak.

More folks acting stupidly.

Quote:

Corey Brooks is pastor at New Beginnings Church in Chicago’s south side. Well known and well liked, Brooks tended to his parish without much controversy or incident. Until, that is, he endorsed Republican Bruce Rauner for governor over Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn.

After appearing in an ad for Rauner, Brooks received death threats on his voicemail and on social media, including calling him an “Uncle Tom.”

Brooks told WGN, “It’s unfair that a person does not have a right to voice their opinion and speak about who they want to support, and that some people still feel you have got to stay on this Democratic plantation. If you choose to leave it or go off it, we will attack you.”

Shortly after the ad appeared, New Beginnings Church suffered a break in and had $8,000 stolen from a collection for a new community center. Brooks also started receiving threatening messages.

One voicemail said, “Watch your back fat (expletive). We own you, black. We own you. They can’t protect you, you sell out. You Uncle Tom (expletive). Token. You puppet for Bruce Rauner.”

Brooks also endorsed Republican Senate candidate Jim Oberweis over Democratic Senator Dick Durbin.

Police are investigating the break in and the threats.

Not everyone believes the Pastor’s story. Failed Democratic candidate for governor and progressive activist Tio Hardiman believes the messages and the break in are merely publicity stunts.

Hardiman, a Huffington Post contributor, called Brooks and other black clergy who’ve thrown their support behind Republican Rauner “the sell out pastors of Chicago.”

Brooks tells WGN he and his family have moved out of their home in response to the treats against him.

AURaptor is taking Barkley's words for truth. Barkley doesn't think his own opinions should be taken seriously, except when he's talking about basketball. Go to 7:30 on the video of him, below.

Someone who's black can explain where Barkley got it wrong because they know more than basketball: www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/10/charles-barkley-and-the-p

He's overpaid, over privileged. He's a celebrity. When Barkley talks it's just talk. Except for basketball.

So ... retired NBA superstars are on TV and when they talk we must listen with deep respect? Take the fine example of Dennis Rodman. He could be the respected US ambassador to North Korea because he played basketball well, long ago, just like Charles Barkley should be a respected pundit since he is full of knowledge and has the energy to share his vast wisdom with everyone.

Or Rodman and Barkley are full of bullshit. Who knows? Opinions about those two differ.
