CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has announced her resignation after being employed by the network for more than two decades.
“I have resigned from CBS,” she stated simply to her 41,000 Twitter followers on Monday.

Miss Attkisson had grown frustrated at CBS with what she saw as liberal bias, as well as “an outsized influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting,” several sources told Politico.
Miss Attkisson began negotiating with CBS News President David Rhodes as early as last April about getting out of her contract.

She described her resignation as “amicable,” Politico reported

Good for her. CBS is actually the least biased to the Left of the major networks. ABC is mostly a liberal cesspool, while NBC mandates that its on-air propagandists fellate Obama every day.

Mainstream media.... and by that I INCLUDE FOX NEWS, so please don't make this post to be something that it isn't... is not invested in telling their viewers/ listeners the truth, but in passing along a POV. Heck, if they were involved in telling the truth and focusing on important items, do you they they would run thousands of ads every day?

Just watch the media knowing that it's not there to tell you anything important, but to get you to react the way that want you to react. Like listening to somebody that has a POV and is trying to convince you, and they get to yack at your for hours every day. If you know the backers of that particular outlet, then you'll be able to figure out their intent by watching how the news changes.

BTW- I don't watch CBS much, but so far it seems to me that the broadcast company that most faithfully carries Obama's water is NPR and its public radio station affiliates.

Actually, yes. ( As I understand what you meant ) Who else would pay for the studios, staff, equipment, power and salaries ? The content need not suffer just because it's a for profit organization. If anything, it should be better for it.

I'm not sure you're getting it. But then as NBC is owned by G.E. , which is fully in the tank for advancing the AGW agenda, that might make some sense.

With out even listening to NPR, I could have guessed that they'd be most in the tank for our Collectivist OF Chief.

Rappy, the advertising IS the content! That's where the stations make their money! The shows are just the pretty candy-wrapper which draws eyeballs to the advertising!

I could point out a least a half-dozen ways that the shows themselves (the part you mistakenly call "content") are fundamentally negatively affected by the commercial nature of broadcast media. But I encourage you and everyone to think how this could be, and if you have any thoughts on the topic, please feel free to bring them to the table!

The news that CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the network does not come as any great surprise to those who have followed her career. Last year, at a time when we learned that the Obama Justice Department was spying on Fox News’ James Rosen as well as a group of reporters at the Associated Press, Attkisson reported that her computer had been hacked. But, as Dylan Byers wrote in Politico, Attkisson had an even bigger problem: most of her colleagues at CBS didn’t like the fact that she had spent the last few years reporting aggressively about the Obama administration’s various shortcomings and scandals.

Journalists at mainstream media outlets like to pretend that they play it down the middle when it comes to whoever is in power. But it was hardly a coincidence that the prevailing office culture at the network that the president trusted, in Steve Kroft’s memorable phrase, not to make him “look stupid,” would think ill of a reporter that thought it worth her time to investigate stories like Fast and Furious, Solyndra and Benghazi. If, as Byers reports today, Attkisson has come to a parting of the ways with CBS after “hard fought negotiations” that led to her departure prior to the expiration of her contract, it was due to the following factors:

Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network’s liberal bias, an outsize influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said. She increasingly felt that her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.

At the same time, Attkisson’s reporting on the Obama administration, which some staffers characterized as agenda-driven, had led network executives to doubt the impartiality of her reporting. She is currently at work on a book — tentatively titled “Stonewalled: One Reporter’s Fight for Truth in Obama’s Washington” — that addresses the challenges of reporting critically on the administration.

While Attkisson is just one reporter and CBS has long since ceased being a dominant force in the national media, this may be a crucial moment in the history of American journalism. It was assumed that any major news outlet would regard aggressive coverage of all administrations as a given. But that ceased to be the case when Barack Obama entered the White House. If Attkisson is being shown the door at CBS it is not because her work is not highly regarded but because she has violated the prime directive of liberal media insiders: thou shalt not report on Obama in the same way that you reported on George W. Bush or even Bill Clinton. The liberal bias that conservatives have long complained about is out of the closet.

While most journalists have been reliably liberal in their politics for decades, the culture of the profession has always valued an “agin’ the government” mentality in which all politicians are viewed with cynicism. So long as even liberal journalists regard it as their duty to ferret out stories about corruption, mismanagement and failure within the government, we can feel safe that no administration, even one that is favored by the left, will escape the scrutiny necessary to provide accountability.

But there is little doubt that this has begun to change since Obama came to office. After the media hammered both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush throughout their presidencies, Obama has had it relatively easy. Part of it is due to the special hold that this historic president has over liberals. The growing bifurcation of American society in which the country has been divided between those who read the New York Times, listen to NPR and watch mainstream networks and MSNBC and those who read the Wall Street Journal, listen to talk radio and watch Fox News, has also affected journalists who should know better. The culture at CBS and like-minded outlets is to see any aggressive reporting about the president and his policies as evidence of wrong thinking rather than part of their obligation to ask uncomfortable questions and speak truth to power.

There was some hope last year that the spying on the AP and James Rosen would, especially when combined with other scandals involving the IRS and Benghazi, motivate the liberal media to start doing its job with regard to this administration. But the ouster of Attkisson combined with the relative lack of interest on the part of most of the press to follow up on those scandals while treating those involving Republicans — like Chris Christie’s Bridgegate — as the second coming of Watergate, means that partisanship has prevailed over integrity in much of the mainstream media.

One has to wonder why anyone interested in anything but White House talking points would choose to watch CBS News if a reporter like Attkisson couldn’t work there. This partly explains the decline of CBS and other liberal networks. But it also sends a clear message to the public that they can’t trust CBS and any other network where aggressive coverage of the administration is no longer welcome. This confirms what conservatives have been talking about for years but it ought to sadden anyone, no matter their politics, who understands the role of a free press in a democracy.

The media has been relentlessly kind to Presidents in general, including GWB.

As far as Clinton is concerned, none of his major initiatives - NAFTA, DOMA, DMCA, the Kosovo war, welfare reform, repeal of Glass Steagall, the Commodities Futures Reform Act... all of which came back to bite us 6-12 years later.... were subject to the press scrutiny they deserved.

As far as Bush's biggest blunder... the Iraq war... Judith Miller of the NYT carried HIS water relentlessly, "reporting" on connections between Saddam Hussein and 9-11 (which didn't exist), yellowcake deals (which didn't happen), WMD programs (that weren't even a figment of Saddam's imagination), and "terrorist training camps" that even the CIA doubted, referencing such sketchy backgrounders as "Curveball", a notoriously unreliable source. GWB got a huge pass after 9-11, the press didn't really turn on him until after Katrina.

Obama... some of the press went off on ridiculous criticism about him being a Kenyan, a non-American, a Muslim, and radical, none of which was true. The liberal press, unfortunately, never challenged him on more substantive grounds, and let pass without comment Obama's appointment of a pro Wall Streeter (Geithner), his continued bank-bailout slush fund, the speech where Obama first spoke the words "indefinite preventive detention", and all of his other betrayals of his constituency.

So "the press" is faithful to the President, as long as the President is faithful to the banks, the military, the alphabet-soup security agencies, and the remainder of the rich and powerful.

I think you're wiping away a fair amount of truth with some bogus intel that doesn't fit your own agenda. As far as 'turning' on W, they were all on board w/ that well before Katrina. Remember Abu Ghraib ? NY papers ran headlines on that story daily, for like 2 months. Where as things like Fast and Furious or Benghazi got no where near the wide spread attention.

The only reason they did that was to mock Donald Trump and cast ALL TEA Party minded Americans as 'birthers'. Utter rubbish.

Obama tried to get FOX news tossed off the WH Press pool. He hacked reporter's computers, and Jay Carney openly mocks the media during press conferences... and yet the Press are dutiful compliant to the whims of THIS WH.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Miss Attkisson had grown frustrated at CBS with what she saw as liberal bias, as well as “an outsized influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting,” several sources told Politico."

liberal bias
outsized influence by the network’s corporate partners
lack of dedication to investigative reporting

Pretty bland description of what she was claiming. She claims her work AND PERSONAL (at home) computers were hacked. “There were just signs of unusual happenings for many months, odd behavior like the computers just turning themselves on at night and then turning themselves back off again,” she said. ... “I think I know. But I’m just not prepared to go into that. We’re continuing our investigations. There are multifaceted looks at what to do next… Let me just say, whoever did it, to come into a private citizen’s home, whether I’m a journalist or not, and look in my family’s computer and look into my work computer… Well, it’s outrageous.”

Do I think the government is beyond that? Not in the least. Do I think they'd be so clumsy as to have the computers turn themselves on and off in the middle of the night for anyone to notice? No, not really.

Looking at her stories, I find most of her stories during the Bush years to NOT be directed at the president, during an administration that was prime territory for investigative reporting. Her 'zeal' to uncover the 'truth' didn't extend in that direction at the time. No, her anti-administration campaign began during the Obama administration.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharyl_Attkisson#2010s

2000s
2001 - Firestone Tire Fiasco
2002 - American Red Cross
2009 - TARP and the bank bailout

2010s
2010 - waste of tax dollars
2011 - investigations into Congressional travel to the Copenhagen climate summit, and aid to Haiti earthquake victims
2012 - ATF's Fast and Furious

So, her political outrage looks distinctly partisan.

I think Attkison's grudge match against the Obama administration was uncomfortable for the corporation. (Just as it would have been if she focused her ire on Bush earlier. But she didn't.) Meanwhile, the corporation, being a corporation, didn't want anything to get in the way of profits smoothly rolling in.

Unbiased truth teller? She's hardly that. CBS downplaying her because it's a 'liberal' organization? Not that either.

It's amazing, isn't it? ALL mainstream media was fellating Bush throughout the war. The reporting was mostly about how awesome our weapons were. It was as if they had a vested interest in lying right along with Bush, and being a megaphone for our war-for-profit industries.

2 things come to mind:

Investigative reporting; to some extent I believe her, but hasn't she heard of 60 Minutes. Of course, liberal bias is it's middle name, we're talking about a program that was born out of the 60s.

Are you kidding me with the "corporate influence" - all news programs are corporations and are summarily influenced by. So please, spare me the histrionics.

Say, tell me J-straw, does that mandate include everybody, or just the females give Obama a blow job.

How about over at Fox News, do they bend over and grab their ankles for Uncle Rupert?
Curious minds want to know.

Curious how it is never mentioned that Attkisson signed a contract, probably several, knowing that CBS News was not presenting her stories, regardless of the take of her approach.

My feeling is that she could have taken her skills elsewhere in a free market, somewhere that would appreciate her conservative views. Seriously, if she was so unhappy about airtime at CBS, take your skills to another news outlet. With her background I would imagine that would not be difficult. Better still join a political campaign.

Something has happened to investigative reporting over the years. It just doesn't seemt to happen so much any more. Watching old news footage, I can see that reporters were more fearless and would actually investigate. Not so much any more. Newspapers are just click bait, the more outrageous the story the more likely to be clicked on and revenue collected. Increasingly what counts as news is just a cross between infotainment and advertisement. It's either total froth, sports or, what looks like to me especially in the US, polemic commentators who aim to shock.

It's rubbish mostly. I dont watch televised news and rarely do anything more than scan the headlines in the online papers. I havent observed that people who follow either newspapers of televised news are more informed. Mostly they are as dumb as ducks.

So wrong you are! It took Attkisson 12 years to write her book, then it was time to resign and promote it on FOX. www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2014/11/04/on-fox-news-sha

That is the real reason Sharyl Attkisson resigned. www.amazon.com/gp/product/0062322842

A great deal of Attkisson's “Stonewalled” is given over to denunciations of PR agents and their tricks. Yet if milking a story for maximum duration is a PR skill — then the author has something in common with those she deplores.

You doubt that there's obstruction and bias in the media ? Or that this WH is dedicated to attack those who don't fall in line ? I don't. I think she's 100% dead on accurate.

If she's got a story to tell about the " most transparent admin ever ", and the dirty tricks it pulls, so be it. If she can make $ off of the telling of that story, more power to her. Hell, the Left has made boat loads of $ off telling lies, so I don't begrudge this one reporter making $ off telling the truth.

Ah, the Truth................how very important.

Recently saw an interview with her regarding her book. I got the feeling she was being deliberately coy about her "story" and the "facts" of the case. They showed a camera phone video tape (no doubt filmed by her) of her laptop being "controlled" by an outside source. She claimed it was a 3-initialed government agency that hacked into her computer and she cited an established source, but claimed she could not name under mysterious circumstances, that had scanned her device and uncovered the hack.

WTF!?

I'm not making this up. This was in her own words.

It's obvious she wants to sell books, because she makes that statement several times. But even if it were given away free, I wouldn't bother reading it. Why didn't CBS, one of the top-notch News Organizations within the Main Stream Media, pursue this potentially blockbuster story? Even if they didn't get to the bottom of it, they would get so much publicity and recognition (that translates into ratings) in the corporate world of news media. From that aspect, it just doesn't make sense.

She knows full well, being a news reporter herself, that any news story with this type of explosiveness, needs to be corroborated, investigated and exposed. How many more books could she sell if this story had "legs" and confirmed. Every word out of her mouth is a dead end to "we'll see." And, like Chris Hayes said, it is a story that people are willing to believe. I just don't buy it.

Yeah, eight months ago I said "good for her". Now I say fuck her. She's a Jenny Come Lately opportunist trying to cash in on her own stupidity. Veteran CBS journalist Bernie Goldberg laid it all out five years ago with his tell-all book about liberal media bias "A Slobbering Love Affair". Somehow Attkisson didn't get or didn't care about the fraudulent news environment enough then to quit being a part of it.

Exactly. Even putting aside the "stories" she was working on, my whole thing about her is why she held onto CBS News, when there are other news outlets out there. She claims they wouldn't put her investigations on air. Additionally she claimed bias - Well Duh! That is part and parcel of the news game whether print or broadcast.

During the interview she did attempt to use news manipulation, or double-speak, to try and evade the question, which Hayes chose to slide by (like a batter would a pitched ball he didn't offer a swing at). I got the feeling he said, let her double-talk speak for itself.

She's a poser, and obviously didn't do her homework within the investigative reporting realm, or else she would have made a name for herself. Perhaps her dream was to be the next Diane Sawyer or Katie Couric (heaven help us).

It was announced today that she will be a guest interview on a radio show, the Jerry Bader Show, which runs 8:30-11 am, not sure which segment she will be in. I think it is also available online.

radio is 97.5FM or 1360AM, Mid West Communications. WTAQ News Talk Sports, Green Bay. That is central time, even though in the Eastern time Meridian.
