Sony cyber-attack: North Korea calls US sanctions hostile

Quote:

North Korea has described new sanctions imposed in response to a major cyber-attack against Sony Pictures as part of a hostile and inflammatory US policy.

The US placed sanctions on three North Korean organisations and 10 individuals after the FBI blamed Pyongyang for the cyber-attack.

North Korea praised the attack on Sony but denied any involvement in it.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30670884

The hack is now widely seen by experts as the work of (a) disgruntled insider(s), not the product of N Korea. But despite the lack of clear evidence, Obama went forward with the sanctions anyway.

Does this remind anyone of something else?

How about...

Proposing to bomb Syria for a chemical weapons attack that was quickly blamed on Assad, although chemical analysis points back to the jihadists?

Sanctioning Russia for a plane shoot-down for which no clear evidence of responsibility exists?

Sanctioning Iran for nuclear weapons it doesn't have?

Invading Iraq for WMD programs that weren't in existence?

------------

Is there a pattern here???

Also, you have to wonder: What is the point of such a pointless "sanction"? It's not s if the USA (or any other nation for that matter) does such a booming business with N Korea. N Korea has ONE connection to the world-wide web, for gods sake!
Anyway, since we're pretty sure that even the Obama government isn't THAT stupid, that there really is a point to this, we have some ideas on what this is all in response to, and I'll bet you couldn't imagine it even if given a few weeks. I know I didn't!

You just can't help yourself can you. The link you posted only cites North Korea as claiming it was not them. You then claim that it is widely known and (accepted by the rest of the world) that is was a disgruntled employee and not North Korea. You even suggest America has no clear evidence when you have absolutely know way of knowing that.

Cites please that the rest of the world has now concluded that is was a disgruntled employee. Then explain to me how they could possible know that and further explain how it could not have been a combination of both.

What a fucking moron.

These threads are little more than a playground that caters to your delusions.

THUGR: Yes, the world by now doubts that N Korea hacked Sony.

Was the Sony Pictures hack an inside job?
Quote:

With the investigation into last week’s cyberattack on Sony Pictures still ongoing, speculation is mounting that someone with knowledge of the company may have been involved in the hack. Earlier this week the finger of suspicion was pointed at North Korea over the mysterious hacking incident which crippled Sony Pictures' network.
Now experts think that an insider may have been involved in the attack. The hackers knew their way around Sony Pictures’ IT infrastructure, according to Jaime Blasco, labs director of security management specialist AlienVault, who has reviewed samples of the malware used in the attack.

No, North Korea Didn’t Hack Sony
Quote:

The FBI and the President may claim that the Hermit Kingdom is to blame for the most high-profile network breach in forever. But almost all signs point in another direction.

All the evidence leads me to believe that the great Sony Pictures hack of 2014 is far more likely to be the work of one disgruntled employee facing a pink slip.

I may be biased, but, as the director of security operations for DEF CON, the world’s largest hacker conference, and the principal security researcher for the world's leading mobile security company, Cloudflare, I think I am worth hearing out.

Some experts doubt DPRK as source of Sony Pictures hack
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2014-12/31/content_19206623.htm

Joining the chorus of experts who doubt U.S. claims that North Korea is behind the Sony Hack attack is Fabrice Epelboin, an adviser to the French government and graduate professor at the Sorbonne CELSA and the Sciences Po media lab.

So - one liberal source, one rightwing source, one tech source, one from China and one French social media.

My god, son, do you HAVE to be such an ignoramus??? Do you think that maybe you'll learn to websearch your questions and doubts BEFORE you bring them to the board? Save us all the tedium of having to deal with your puerile approach to world news?

First Sig, I know you don’t know anyone who is involved with the news that is reputable that sides with your opinions because you're nuts. If you know anyone it is bloggers who themselves are nuts.

Secondly, I don’t have to follow the links you provided BUT WILL if you can assure me that these anecdotal stories offer some sort of evidence that it was not North Korea. Not just opinions because I have heard enough of those to understand that those making these claims offer up no prof. For instance, if they can show what disgruntled employee my opinion would be swayed. As of now I see no facts being presented to match their claims.

I am sure Sony would love to be able to make some arrests don't you?

I used FOX for the rightwing people here who don't trust anything else. But it says the same thing as everyone else:

The data that the FBI provided was thin-to-negligible.

It is EXTREMELY easy to spoof someone else's hack by inserting a few typical phrases from previous hacks.

It's also possible to spoof someone else's address, unless you are at their physical connection to the internet, splicing the info off as it goes by. And if you can do THAT, you already know exactly where they are and what they're doing.

So speaking of sitting on a physical connection: N Korea has ONE connection to the internet. Is the FBI saying that many agencies from MANY countries are not watching that connection like a hawk?

The hackers knew the Sony IT system extremely well. The experts who've weighed on in the topic say that it looks more like the work of an insider.

Overall, proving "who did what" when it comes to hacking is very tough. It took years of floating suspicion about Stuxnet and Flame before the weight of opinion came down on the USA. But the FBI knew.... knew right away! .... that N Korea had done it. A very convenient rush to judgment, and right in time for sanctions. Gee, whooda thunk?

Well, certainly NOT YOU.

The reason why this was so interesting is because my friend - one of several who watch the international news like a hawk - noticed a few confluent activities. The first is that Russia is making noises that it would like to ship natgas to S Korea. In order to avoid running a pipeline to N Korea, they would have to build a huge natgas shipping facility on their east coast.

Gosh, it would be so much easier if they could only pipe thru N Korea, right?

Well Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu took an interesting trip recently. He traveled from Beijing to Islamabad to Pyongyang. I could think of all kinds of reasons for a trip in that order, but many official visits to Beijing are for financing, and Islamabad (Pakistan) is the source of much of N Korea's nuclear technology.

So, since G and THUGR are so smart, I'll leave them to fill in the blanks. Because I don't know anybody worth knowing, and they -of course - know everything, so I'm sure that figuring this all out and finding more relevant information will be child's play.

I noticed G paid this comment little mind. I find G’s and others posts informative and usually in line with my thinking. That is why it is the posts that are crap that I respond to. I will admit as of late showing what you post to be nonsense has been my joy. There are others here I have torn into who post mostly bullshit and if you have been paying attention, there are some I never respond to. They are just too sick in the head and hateful. When you stop your little war against the better half of the world I will shift my focus elsewhere.

Hey - speaking of childish and backward - did you see how Medvedev signed an order that would outlaw Transgender people from driving???-G

I'm going to take a flyer here. Since in every thread about Russia ... and even in threads about other topics like this one (which, you might have noticed is about N Korea) you post at least once, and often many times, about Russia's treatment of gays/ transgenders .... I'm going to guess that you're gay, or someone is gay who is very close to you (someone you feel very protective of).

That particular topic comes up with great regularity, and completely unprovoked and off-topic, so it seems like it's the thing that really bothers your the most. So FWIW, I find the Russian stance on gay people to be retrograde. Growing up in the Pope John XXIII era, when love was the most important virtue, I really don't care who you love, as long as you love them and they love you back. That's why I'm for gay marriage. I've seen several very (in my mind) sick gay relationships where it was all about dominance and submission, but also some very healthy ones where the partners seemed to be very supportive of each other. I'm all for that, and anything that encourages that is a good thing, in my mind.

----------------

But I see that neither your nor THUGR have made any comment about the peregrinations of Defense Minister Shoigu, so as usual you have nothing on-topic to say.

And of course, no apology from you for being so totally wrong and evil-intentioned about my information and my contacts will ever be forthcoming

I just posted this in another thread and then saw this latest post by G, so here it is again.

Right on G….

I suggested in another post perhaps on another thread, that SIGNYM starts threads about injustices not because of concerns for the little guy, but instead as a spear head for an attack on this country and Europe. I mean think about it. As much as you can find things in America and Europe to complain about that points to the little guy getting screwed, you can use that same information to compare things in Russia and show they are much worse off. Yet with SIGNYM it is not on her agenda to point that out. I would remind some here about her support for Russia’s backing of Bashar al-Assad, the butcher of Syria, or for the ruling class in Iran.

SIGNYM again you are talking apples vs oranges. In America and Europe we are free. In Russia, Iran and Syria they are not. There is no form of life lower than that of someone who enjoys freedom taking up the cause of a government that does not extend it to their own population. You SIGNYM and 1KIKI are RATS.

Well, certainly NOT YOU. Saddam's WMD, Assad's Syrian gas attack, Putin's shoot-down of MH17, Noriega's drug-running, Iran's nuclear weapons ... it's all true, as far as you're concerned. Just one casus belli after another!
