A survey conducted by James Lindgren of Northwestern University Law School for the Federalist Society and The Wall Street Journal has ranked President Bush just above William Taft and just below Lyndon Johnson.

http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007243

Personally I'd put him at 18, with LBJ as the 19th.

A more cogent question would be:
What makes you think the President has any power?

Oh, and I believe #1 was Caligula...

Now, HERE'S a scary thought: 19% of Republicans think that George Bush has improved the deficit. I'd like to have a rational discussion with this 19% about how, exactly, they think the deficit has improved. But I don't think it's possible.

Please don't think they give a shit.

Eliminating all the Democrats, the scandal magnets, and incompetents...yep, 19, but its a distinguished field including a Roosevelt, a Wahsington, a Lincoln, and the odd Democrat...Harry Truman.

Country was already screwed up. Every problem we face today was an issue during the 2000 election. One reason to Bush-haters hate Bush is that everything he was saying we need to fix before something happens, has broken since things started to happen. Bush only had 8 months to undue 8 years of damage and neglect, after that he was out of time.

Todays issues, yesterday's choices.

1. Not enough troops, Clinton reduced the army by 50% starting in 1993.

2. Bin Laddin, Clinton didn't try to get him after terror attacks in 1993, 94, 98, 99, or 2000. Same with Hussein, Clinton should have seen war coming when Saddam started shooting at our planes EVERY day.

3. Not enough oil, Clinton said no to new refineries and new drilling.

4. Broken Levies, Clinton decided cleaning the big lake was more important then modernizing the levy system.

5. Natural gas, Clinton said no to new drilling (theres a theme there).

6. Global Warming, Clinton didn't support his own treaty, the Kyoto Accords.

7. Partisan Politics, Clinton engaged in the personal destruction of his accusers starting in 1993 with the former head of the travel office, in essence changing the accepted rules and starting a political war.

8. Expensive health care, if at first you don't succeed (in 1993) Clinton decided to have sex (1993-present) rather then try, try again.

9. Browns losing to Baltimore last Sunday, Clinton failed to intervene and stop the moving of the Browns to Baltimore.

10. Cancellation of Firefly, Clinton allowed Reality TV to ruin the broadcast networks and leading to the rise of cable.

The list goes on and on. There is no problem facing America today that cannot be blamed on the Clinton administration or the Democratic Party.

Well, that AND he happens to belong to either the Republican or the Democratic party, I can't remember which...

That would be the 19% that have the highest paying, most useless jobs that they keep justifying with more laws and paperwork that choke the rest of us up with endless hours of needless but demanded responses.
But I think you'll find that the truths that we cling to depend richly on your point of view, and the view from the top must be that all is well...

Chrisisall, wishing that 19% would break away to form their own small, twisted country. Maybe near that island where all those dinosaurs got loose...

So, was this a survey conducted among former drug addict/alcoholics who perhaps ran both an oil company and a sports franchise into the ground before becoming 'born again' and setting out to make public policy based an antique story book full of old superstitions and poems?

Jesus fracking Christ. Whoever came up with those numbers has had to have burned up more brain cells than the lying, weasly shrub Himself.

That's easy. It's all in the wording "improved". More is better right? The deficit was too low, and Bush and Co. came along and improved it by increasing the deficit.

Half your facts are just plain wrong. The rest are inaccruate. The entire post amounts to just so much Clinton bashing with an obvious bias that I just had to comment. It would be wonderful if we could blame someone in our past for all of our problems but it just doesn't work that way.

If you surveyed only rational people (people who have the capacity to see the liberation of millions of people as a SELFLESS act), you'd find him ranked even higher.

The people on this board attacking the President probably couldn't name 19 Presidents. Why should we listen to people with no historical perspective?

The youth of Iran have a nickname for President Bush. They call him the "Messiah of Freedom." If facts mattered to you people, you'd read that and maybe begin to doubt what your hippie friends tell you. But they don't and you won't.

I'm not a Republican, by the way. And I'm not a conservative. I'm a libertarian. I don't care what you think about everything else the president has done. But he liberated millions. Freedom of religion. Equal rights for women and minorities. Democracy. If you can't see that as a good thing, you don't deserve to be heard. You deserve a bullet in the brainpan.

George W. Bush is one of our greatest presidents.

No. They got it all backwards. What she REALLY didn't say was that the US would never not rule out peaceful resolution of its issues with Iran and Syrian and she refused to not rule out denying the possibility that US troops in Iraq could not begin to withdraw as early as next spring.

She failed to mention our plans not to attack Canada either. Or the aliens. She didn't rule out an attack on Syria by aliens. That should tell you everything you need to know. And what about the Candians? I've never heard them rule out the possibility that they would invade Iran and Syria. Perhaps they're the ones you should be worried about...I know I do...damn Candians with their amiable world view and BC Bud, got my eye on them.

I just heard Hugo Chavez claim the Candians are planning to invade...he has proof, the same proof that the US is planning to invade his country shows Candian plans for global war. The maple leaf will never fly above Ohio! This I swear.

Hmmm...I prefer the original where the Apes reject truth and history to follow a narrow vision fostered by Ape Mullahs in order to maintain the power they wield over their deluded followers and humanity. They are then thwarted by a gun-toting American fostering ideas of liberty and justice.

The real issue in the whole 'Planet of the Apes' thing is the elimination of the puppy dogs. I can't imagine we'd nuke a world full of puppies, but if they were all gone...why not?

Honestly, to seriously assess the Bush Presidency we will have to wait a decade after he is out of office. Honestly, the future of the Middle East is uncertain at best, as is the future of this nation. Great Presidents provide leadership and vision, some believe Bush has done that, some don't. We will see in 13 years whether he was successful of not.

I am not a fan of Bush, and most of what I have seen of his presidency has been disappointing, especially in how polarizing he acts. He has not united the country as he promised, nor even really tried in a meaningful way.

His foreign policy is overly simplistic, though I think it is improving slightly in the last few years as Afghanistan and Iraq have taught some lessons. His doemstic policies are shallow and mostly non-existent. His main problem is that outside of the War on Terror he loses focus and can't seem to articulate a clear message.

Take judicial nominations, I think that Roberts was an excellent candidate for the Supreme Court, while he is probably very conservative he came across in the hearings as a very competent judge who knew the law. Kudos to Bush for that. Miers on the other hand is an embarrassment, no other way to put it. This is Bush's problem he is inconsistent, he went for cronyism instead of putting another talented conservative judge on the Supreme Court. He makes a decent effort, but then gets sidetracked.

Still maybe he will bring democracy to the Middle East and if so then he deserves kudos, right now though my gut says he has created severe problems that will hurt the US and the world for decades, mainly because he is short-sighted.

RIGHTEOUS9

Well, I for one am truly interested in what Bush
Jr. has done that is so positive, and I'm
willing to to think seriously on your answers.

His decision to take us into Iraq though, will
be hard for you to sell me.

Of course, when it was being put to the American
people as a matter of national security, I was
right there with the rest of us. This is what I
told people. "Our president wouldn't be stupid
enough to lie to us. If that's what he's
saying, it must be true."

So imagine how betrayed I feel. And please don't
try to pawn this off on the CIA. There were
conflicting reports coming out of our
intelligence. Conflicting means reports that
were at odds. When the President decides which
reports he wants to listen to and then tells the
American people that there is NO DOUBT about the
information on weapons of mass destruction, well
he is either lying, or else, he is a 'true
believer'. He sees what he wants to, and that
is not presidential material.

If indeed, an action taken by the United States
that has cost the Iraqis over a hundred thousand
lives(more deaths than Saddam Caused in the
course of 10 years), and us near to 2000 lives -

this in trade for a less stable Middle East that
is now a breeding ground for terrorists, and by
the Pentagon's own admission is creating more of
them than it is killing...if this is a policy
that you approve of, I would like to know why.

You don't bring people to democracy this way.
It won't work. The backlash will be extreme.
America is less popular in the world now
than China. After 911 everyone was an American
in their support. What have we done?

Fought the terrorists over there so we don't
have to fight them over here? Well if that were
true, I'd expect that we wouldn't be getting
terrorist threats in this country every few
months. Jesus, there is no proof that this is
working, and logic dictates that the whole
premise is absurd.

But let me come back to the most important part,
to me.

As an American Citizen, I am America's
government. We the People. Our elected
officials are responsible to us. When they go
to war, they are supposed to have a legitimate
reason, and that reason is supposed to stand up
to the test of American approval. Going over to
Iraq on a 'Freedom Tour' would not have garnered
that. Instead, we were misinformed, for
whatever reasons. Blame the CIA if you have to,
in order to protect your entrenched beliefs,

but our President gave us wrong iformation. Our
President did not do his job and give us the
facts. He was our mouthpiece, and his inability
to tell bullshit from fact, when he was far
closer to the organization than us, failed the
American people in a grave way.

I don't know what else to say. When you've been
chopped in the throat, and you're arms have been
dislocated and you've been pinned to the railing
and forced to listen to facts, and you still
won't hear them...well hell, the Alliance needs
good Operatives like you.

George Bush is not the President! Rove does politics, and Cheney does foreign policy. This from the Financial Times:

Quote:

Vice-President Dick Cheney and a handful of others hijacked the government's foreign policy apparatus, deciding in secret to carry out policies....the top aide to former secretary of state Colin Powell claimed yesterday... Lawrence Wilkerson, a retired colonel who was chief of staff to Mr Powell until last January, said: "What I saw was a cabal between the vice-president of the United States, Richard Cheney, and the secretary of defence, Donald Rumsfeld, on critical issues that made decisions that the bureaucracy did not know were being made...."

Among his other charges:

*The detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere was "a concrete example" of the decision-making problem, with the president and other top officials in effect giving the green light to soldiers to abuse detainees. "You don't have this kind of pervasive attitude out there unless you've condoned it."

* Condoleezza Rice, the former national security adviser and now secretary of state, was "part of the problem". Instead of ensuring that Mr Bush received the best possible advice, "she would side with the president to build her intimacy with the president".

* The military, particularly the army and marine corps, is overstretched and demoralised. Officers, Mr Wilkerson claimed, "start voting with their feet, as they did in Vietnam . . . and all of a sudden your military begins to unravel".

Please don't think they give a shit.
