Looks like the words out on cellphone spiking, apparently said devices have gone mainstream.

Like any tool, such a thing can be used for good or bad, but in the end, it's just a tool.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Cool uses for cell phone jammers

bank robbery
B&E
hostages
prevent 911 calls for medical assistance
arson (just in case there are witnesses)

As crappy as some cell phone users are - with the jammer you never know what you're jamming. It could be an attempted life-saving call 20 feet away. I always call in accidents via cell phone. And, well, there are just too many other creative uses.

You'd think someone smart enough figure out how to use a jammer wouldn't be so stupid as to actually use one.

Yeah, but that's like sayin the internet is a vessel for terrorism or that axes cause murders.

Or the all fired pistol debate, same basic principle, and from me, the same response.

It's a tool, a thing, an object - it has no will or motivating force of it's own.

And like any tool, can be used for decent or ill purpose, and regardless of the law, this is, in my opinion, a direct free-market response to an abysmal lack of social courtesy involving the use the cell phones.

What you do is your business, but invading my personal space with it is offensive as hell, or worse, hitting my vehicle cause your attention is on your cell phone instead of the road...
(I'm still pissed over that, and my back is still hurting from it.)

As far as police response, not to be offensive, but 95% of the time they show up in time to draw the chalk outlines - which, until someone finds a way to jam bullets, ain't gonna be around me.

I do see your point, mind - just sayin that the law notwithstanding, such devices are here to stay, and why not simply regulate their potentcy and range so that they're effective only within a persons personal space, or in the case of a business with a sign clearly posted, only on the grounds of that business.

Or, we could go the same prohibitionary route that spawned the "war on drugs" complete with all associated lunacy, fraud, waste and destruction of civil rights.

You can't make em not exist, so we must find a way to minimize misuse of them, see ?
