Wrong answer.

There are only two types on RWED: Those who are absolutely sure that they are right about everything, and the rest of us.

Chris. The fact that I disagree with what folks post here doesn't mean that I think I'm right...I just think they're wrong.

That's what amuses me here more than anything else. The fact that if you disagree with some folk on any particular thing they say, they automatically pigeon-hole you as believing in everything spooible that's diametrically opposed to their particular worldview.

Hence, if I don't think, for example, that tasers should be banned out of hand, then, in their eyes, I MUST think that tasering anyone at any time is just fine and dandy. Do you sense the disconnect with reality there?

The UN considers them torture, which should apparently make any right-thinking (as opposed to right-leaning) person think they should be banned.

Editted; complete...
Ok, yes; you did get pilloried a bit there. I thought you had indicated someone other than the UN had advocated banning of tasers; instead you were a bit muffed that folks seemed to make an assumption where you stood on the topic based on your opposition to the UN's proposed ban.

The symbols are Greek, but it’s actually quantum mechanics. If those are the only two choices I have to work with in your model of the RWED, then I contend that it must be that people are actually a superposition of these two states, only collapsing into one or the other if depending on the circumstances. I’m just trying to work with what you give me.

I actually think there are many more then just two states, and if I were forced to choose only two states, Geezer’s description of those states sounds like a lot closer to a real explanation. Look at the taser issue. If I disagree with the degree to which a taser should be allowed to be used, then according to certain rigid-minded people I want people to be tased purely for being rude, which is utter nonsense. There’s no possible way to get the idea that I want people to be tased for being rude from anything I’ve ever said, so if you come to that conclusion about me, it’s probably because you’re ignorant of what I’ve said, or you’re so inflexible in your point of view that you can’t allow for any tolerance of another person’s opinion. Geezer got piled on on the recent thread. I've been piled on many times, purely for not advocating the exact opinion as another person. That kind of attitude is unfortunate, because we should be able to appreciate the spectrum of views that exist here.

Baise doesn't mean kiss, not since the 19th century. It means fuck.

It should read "What the fuck is wrong with you" :p.

Babel Fish won't translate swear words and Citizen misspelled it.

The correct spelling is this:

Qu'est-ce que la baise est erronée avec vous?

Try putting this into Babel Fish and see if it gives you better results.

I believe, for the most part, that we do. But inflexability will always play a role where life, death, torture, lies, truths, etc. are being discussed.
And the thing about jumping to extremes bugs me too- you NEVER advocated tasing for trivial reasons, and I see how dogpiles erupt from nowhere based on these jumps, and they come from both left and right. On the other hand, I also see that there are a lot of (for lack of a better term) drama queens here (I don't exclude myself at times) that either enjoy the fray, or lack some of the more reasonable arguing skills.

Still, this place has kept my attention for over two years now...we must be doing something right...

You know, you do occasionally meet some cool French people. It’s just a few tightwads that ruin it for the bunch. Like French waiters. French waiters are all dicks for some reason. I don’t know why - it’s a cultural thing. The French have a kind of formality to their culture that even the English lack, and Americans have never had. They have this impression that the bigger asshole they are - the nicer they are. And the reason why you see this in French waiters is because waiters are always trying to emboss this formality into their mannerisms. But if you go to France and talk to the average joe on the street, the ones that don’t give a shit about the cultural nuances of France’s long history of being kicked around by every nation in Europe like some crusty Croissant, then you really do meet some wonderful people in France.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rue, that would be my newest obsession and a show I urdge you to catch up on called CHUCK starring Zachery Levi (the cutie in the picture)
Not to go into too much detail, he's an adorkable geek who get's all the secrets of the NSA and CIA implanted into his brain by accident and becomes their greatest asset. I know it sounds quarky and impossible, but somehow they make it work. Oh, and a bonus, Adam Baldwin plays one of his handlers/protectors, Major John Casey. It's like watching a smarter Jayne in a suit. *hee*
I encourage you to watch it. If your American you can watch the episodes off the NBC site. Unfortuantely if your not you can't. Which is a shame because I really want to be able to see them again.
