At first thought, I wasn't gonna post this here...

Just not sure folk can really put personal bias aside and discuss it like mature adults, especially in light of the past two weeks.

But on second thought, that isn't my judgement to make, and accusation before the fact just reeks of the same ideals I just flamed in another post, soo, here it is.

This is a VERY interesting situation, where we apparently have a white man representing a black community and apparently doing a right good job of it, who is now facing an opposition candidate of color with a fairly awful set of backers and reputation... and was in the link above flamed rather effectively for it.

It gives me hopes to see folks smashing the wall for once, and deciding on a candidate who represents their INTERESTS regardless of color, for once.

Definately worth a watch to see how this pans out.

Up here in Canada the race issue is not as inflammatory as it is in the US, and nether is the homosexual issue.... so I will not comment to your main point ( I agree but as I do not live in the same world ) there is one issue that is the same. If politicians represented their electorate regardless of party affiliation the system might yet work.

The Alliance said they were gonna waltz through Serenity Valley. And we choked 'em with those words. We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Clarence Thomas, anyone?

I hate to say it, but King Drew hospital in LA is a perfect example of blacks mistaking their color for their interests. It served a primarily black/ brown community, and had a bunch of second-rate... but black!... department heads, administration, and staff. Everyone knew it was a snakepit of a hospital, but the mostly white county supervisors were unwilling to touch it because ever time they tried the local community would cry racism! So it's substandard performance over the last two decades finally caught up with it, it lost its accreditation, and now the community has no hospital at all.

You'd get a chuckle out of this one, one of my associates runs coordination efforts for an anarchist black-bloc of protestors...

Sometimes when my work schedule allows it, i'll stand with em an hold a sign or whatever, and the second time i showed up, i was the only honkey there, out of like 45 people... and i guess i looked a bit nervous about it.

Without even breaking stride as he handed out the signs he snaps a look at me and says "if YOU feel uncomfortable, that's YOUR problem and I don't wanna hear it!", slaps a sign in my hand and just keeps right on goin.
(being a former E-6 he's often verbally blunt.)

Couldn't help but to laugh, he was right, tho - it's only a problem when folks *make* it one, otherwise it matters not a damn.
