Keep the Shiny side up

"Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton quickly apologized Friday after citing the June 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy ("We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.") in defending her decision to keep running for the Democratic presidential nomination despite increasingly long odds."

http://wtop.com/?nid=213&sid=1229395

So is this just bad taste on Sen. Clinton's part, or a code phrase to trigger the sleeper assassins created during her husband's administration?

For those of you who believe the US government was involved in 9/11, this should be a no-brainer.

I thinks this puts a large dent in her reputation as so called "smartest woman alive ". By all accounts, saying that, to an editorial board, where she KNEW it would get reported, was a serious screw up.

And btw geezer, you double posted this topic. You can delete the other one until someone posts a reply on that thread.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Yup, it's not that what she said isn't true, it's just the way it comes across, as if she were trying to say, "I'm hanging around, you know, just in case my opponent gets shot or anything..."

There are a lot of things going on this campaign season that make it a bit different. We have the first black candidate with a realistic shot - er, CHANCE - of being the nominee and winning the Presidency. We have the first woman candidate who actually has a chance to play in the big leagues as a viable (or maybe a semi-viable?) candidate. We have a conservative candidate who's polarized conservatives and has, in the past, alienated and outraged Viet Nam veterans. For various reasons, any or all of them might be seen as a prime target for an assassination attempt - the general mood of fractiousness, unrest, and divisiveness in the country also plays into that.

For those reasons and more, bringing it up in an interview, almost as if you're giddy in anticipation, just seems beyond tacky, lower than low. Even several of HIllary's strongest supporters let out audible gasps. Even the Reverend Al Sharpton, upon hearing about it, responded, "She said WHAT?!"

If this gaffe - and I don't for a minute believe it was a simple misspeak; a pro like her doesn't say anything in an interview by accident - doesn't finish her campaign, then she really does have more lives than a cat...

And she needs to come out and apologize. Not the disingenuous "gee, I hope no one was offended..." she offered, but outright apologize, using words like "I'm deeply sorry... I deeply regret... My sincerest apologies to the Obama family and the Kennedy family, and to all Americans..."

The US government WAS involved, you no-brain.
We effed with every country possible, we effed with the terrorist mentality ourselves, our 'top' intel peeps ignored crucial tips on flight training of creeps- I'd say that makes us 'involved', son. And now we have three supremely hated peeps as potential presidents. Do you need a slide rule to see why that is, Geeze? Look, go on, just look. Around that corner...you see martial law? Oh, the humanity....

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Any candidate who represents real change and has a viable shot at the Presidency is in serious danger. Not only do they face the nutball contingent in our average population (in this case it's rabid right-wingers, religious whackjobs and white supremacists) they also have to face the whole other contingent: the fact, happy and protected lobbyists, industries, Congressmen, and secret agencies who really REALLY don't want their rock overturned.

The last person to face that was Ross Perot, who raised a genuine populist movement on the issue of NAFTA.

Now, Ross Perot was not the goofball as he was portrayed.
Quote:

In 1969, the Nixon administration asked Perot to determine what action might be taken to improve the treatment U.S. prisoners of war (POWs) were receiving in Southeast Asia. Perot continued to work on ways to help the POWs until the they were released at the end of the Vietnam War in 1972. According to Frank Snepp, a former CIA officer posted in Saigon, "Perot later acknowledged that the Vietnam mission was an insider deal from the start, conceived with the secret blessings of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger as a way of maintaining the appearance of action on the POW issue when, in fact, there hadn't been any."

Continuing such high-level, secret contacts in the early 1970s, Perot met a young Marine officer whose name would later become infamous in the minds of most Americans. Oliver North wanted to come to work for EDS, but Perot convinced him to stay in the Marines, which led to his later becoming the main villain in the Iran-Contra scandal. It would not be the last time Perot and North crossed paths, however.

In 1979, two EDS employees were taken hostage by the Iranian government. Perot directed a successful rescue mission composed of EDS employees and led by retired Green Beret Colonel Arthur “Bull” Simons. Perot himself went to Iran and entered the prison where his men were held.

What killed him was "the CIA is trying to ruin my daughter's wedding".
Quote:

When he exposed a campaign dirty trick involving a fake nude photo of his daughter, journalists ridiculed him for believing anyone would do such a thing. Oddly, the media knew better than the public that Perot was very experienced in recognizing such covert activities. Perot claimed that if the photo had become public, it would have ruined his daughter's impending wedding.
It made Perot look like a conspiracy nutball.

'Conspiracy nutballs' are willing to accept the concept that control is not 'ours', unlike the status-quo junkies.

I fear for Obama's life, Ms. Clinton is in less mortal danger IMO, but she'd take an emotional pounding, maybe enough to cause a heart attack, and McCain would be pushed into a 'Nixon', talkin' to paintings & such.

This is just what 'they' want.

Chris, all I got to say to that is that if ya ain't already pissed off and prepared, you ain't been payin enough attention.

I dislike Billary, she's a political dunce and this is no time for amateur hour, Obama has done a better job for all his inexperience and even though I do not care for him, he's the least unpalatable of the "mainstream" candidates, tho I will not vote for any of the three.

As for Perot, what caused me to not support him had nothing to do with that, but rather that in order to actually put his plans into action he would have had to usurp near dictatorial power like FDR did to make the sweeping changes required, and this is a mistake and a bad precedent because even if that power is initially in the hands of a good man, whoever comes after is ever more likely to exploit it for gain, something royal lines in history were somewhat notorious for as each successive generation was more clueless, closeted and isolated from the people that their power truely rested on than the last.

The French, for all their other flaws, had a solution to THAT problem... SHWIP-THUNK!

That same mistake, not considering what jackass might come into power after you do, is the primary issue I also have with Chavez, for all his flaws he ain't doin so bad a job, especially in light of our intel folks constant interference and harrassment, but the man has given no thought to what might happen if some iron-fisted butthead takes power when he finally gets too old to hold the reins anymore.

Perot's plan would have left us open to even wider abuses than FDR's did, and watching the Shrub and these neocon goons take full advantage of the door that FDR left open for them, you can imagine how badly THAT would have went.

As for Obama, Hillary's presence in the field is actually a saving grace, cause McCain don't stand a chance except with the clueless drooling knuckle draggers that are all that's left supporting the morons we currently have in office, as well as the cretins directly benefiting from it's exploitation, but in comparison to an outraged and angry populace, that ain't a lot to go on.

Hell, I know a white supremicist who's tack spitting pissed about having to vote for a candidate of color, but means to do it because even many of the righty-whiteys find Billary THAT repulsive, so any of them entertaining fantasies about Obamas head and a rifle scope have the thought of HER in charge to discourage them, and believe me it does.

Her own clueless, petty, and nasty political fumbling is in fact the best bulwark for his safety that Obama could ask for, cause it's obvious to anyone with half a brain that if you cap him, you get stuck with HER.

Hell, to be blunt, Cheney being veep has been all that prevented folk from pondering trimming the shrub if you ask me about it, the idea of capping a political figure tends to lose it's appeal quickly when the inevitable replacement is someone even worse, you know ?

Besides, capping the POTUS is a dumbass idea to begin with, no matter how slimy they are, once someone assumes that office, symbolically they BECOME that office and representative of all the american people (one reason folks hate shrub so badly that's rarely mentioned) and to try to do them in is kind of spitting on all that means anything to an american in the first place.

Ergo, I think the threat is overstated, it's just the dumbass comment of an increasingly desperate and irrelevant politician sinking fast in the mire of her own incompetence and inadequacy.

That is a stupid thing to say. With Teddy sick in the head too. Maybe because Ted supported Obama. A slap at the Kennedys. Hoping somebody named Lee Harvey or James Earl is looking to get 15 minutes of fame. Clintons are so nineties. It'll be Chaney 3 or the Black Carter. But we lose for 4 years. Personally I like the ring of Wallace and Jesse Helms. Now thats the ticket.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I'm not exactly sure how election campaign finance works (is anybody sure?), but I've heard a little tidbit recently that might explain a little more of why she's so adamant about staying in the race, at least until the convention.

Apparently (so goes the report I heard), if she stays in 'til the convention, her public funding kicks in, and her campaign gets repaid the millions she loaned it out of her own pocket. If she drops out before that, she's out the money and owes it to her campaign. In other words, she's staying in only for the $$$$.

I seriously doubt she's got a hope or a prayer at this point, but if she somehow manages to wrest the nomination from Obama, chances are I'll be looking for someone else to vote for. I don't hold out any real hope that ANY candidate can make things magically better overnight, but I get the feeling Hillary might only make things WORSE. I've given her the benefit of every doubt, I've forgiven her for more indiscretions and lies than she's forgiven Bill, but I'm pretty much done with her. It's not that what she said offends me that much - it's just a pattern of her saying and doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, and then playing innocent... "Who, me? I didn't mean anything by it..."

Adios, Hillbilly. You've managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

HKCAVALIER

I think the bizarre truth is that it's neither a slip of the tongue nor a trigger phrase. The woman's been talking up "what happened" in the '68 primary for over a month. I keep getting the sense that her thinking has become sooooo compartmentalized, so focused on what to everyone else is ephemera, that she just doesn't realize what people other than her staunchest supporters will think about anything she says. And, she's constitutionally incapable of apologizing for anything--we don't need another president like that!

HKCavalier

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
