"In a close contest, racism "might be enough to tip the election," Sniderman said.
Still, the Illinois senator seems to be making some headway even with white Americans who don't have much good to say about African-Americans.
Among the white Democrats who think blacks are lazy, or violent, or boastful, two-thirds said they will vote for Obama over Sen. John McCain, a white Republican.
The poll of 2,227 adults was conducted Aug. 27-Sept. 5, and was designed to probe people's racial attitudes and how those attitudes affect voting."

These polls suggest that one third of racist Democrats won't vote for Obama because of his race. It could be that McCain will be the winner even if Obama is leading in the polls by 5-6% on election day. When you Dems are out rioting after election day, just remember you have your own party members to blame for the loss.

Hang on, would these be the racist Democrats who won't vote for Obama in the election but keep telling the pollsters over and over again that they'll vote for him? Yeah, because there are a ton of *those* people around ...

What needs to be checked is whether the REAL exit polls (not the "normalized" ones) match the vote tally. Because in the LAST election, it was the exit polls which tipped off the ELECTRONIC FRAUD.

I doubt the polls are accurate this year. One, people generally are not talking, so most of the folks answering are those who are activists, not regular voters.

Two, cell phone and caller ID are blocking pollsters from calling as large a sample as they have had in the past.

This explains the wide variety in poll numbers.

Neither. I have spent three lovely evenings these last two weeks at Republican headquarters making calls. 95% of the calls don't get answered. Only about half those who answer give an...answer.

Righties have to keep beating on the ACRON thing, because it distracts from all the actual vote tampering they do. Expunging names from the list of registered voters, in numbers FAR greater than anything ACORN was involved with.

And isn't funny how every case of "malfunctioning" electronic voting goes in favor of the Republicans.

actually, I read recently that a couple votes flipped from republicans to democrats.

What was nice about the reporting on my cite was..."Finally, now maybe we can get some bipartisan support about getting rid of these things"

Voter roll purges, non-functioning or insufficient voting machines in poor neighborhoods, vote-flipping touch screens, robo-calls urging peeps to vote for Obama on November 11, etc etc are pretty easily tracked.

But vote TALLY tampering can be done invisibly by pre-programming the memory-card which records the votes (for example, by "loading" the memory with postive votes for one candidate and negative votes for another or by instructing the memory card to "flip" every xth vote) or by pre-programming the tally machines themselves. This isn't some theoretical possibility; it's been demonstrated on TV with real vote machines and real tally machines under the obervation of a real Florida Supervisor of Election, Ion Voltaire Sancho.
Quote:

In a series of four tests conducted in Feb., May, and Dec. 2005, Ion Sancho invited Black Box Voting to Tallahassee after an invitation to check the Diebold machines. Black Box Voting engaged the services of Dr. Herbert Hugh Thompson and Harri Hursti. Dr. Thompson and Hursti believed they could change or hack vote totals without the system detecting entry. The first two projects targeted the computer program that adds up all the voting machine results and produces the final report. On Feb. 14 and again on May 2, Thompson successfully hacked the Diebold GEMS central tabulator and bypassed all passwords by using a Visual Basic script. This, however, would be detected in a vigilant environment if the supervisor of elections checks the poll tapes (voting machine results) against the central tabulator report.

To show that the both the results tapes and the central tabulator could be hacked, Black Box Voting then engaged the services of Hursti to hack the poll tapes. Black Box Voting purchased a card reader from the internet and Hursti used it to produce counterfeit memory cards, which successfully altered the voting machine results tapes on May 26, 2005.

A fourth trip to Tallahassee was made on Dec. 13, 2005. Black Box Voting and the producers of the film Hacking Democracy organized the test. Attending were Harris and Kathleen Wynne from Black Box Voting, Hursti, Thompson, along with Susan Pynchon of Florida Fair Elections Coalition from Volusia County, Florida, and Susan Bernecker, a former candidate for New Orleans city council who videotaped Sequoia-brand touch-screen voting machines in her district recording vote after vote for the wrong candidate. During his research, Hursti found that Diebold's cards allowed negative votes. Hursti successfully altered the votes using only a memory card, producing a one-step hack that simultaneously altered both the central tabulator results and the voting machine results tapes for matched (but rigged) results. "I would have had no way of knowing," said Sancho. "I would have certified this election."

Nobody seems to tbe addressing this very real problem, and that the 2004 electronic vote was hacked in six states, although a perp is being produced for a trial even as we write.

Ohio election Web site shut down after hacked
CINCINNATI (Reuters) - The Web site of the Ohio state agency that handles voter registration and other election information was shut down briefly after it was hacked, an official said on Tuesday, vowing to guard against fraud in the key battleground state in the November 4 presidential contest.

Cyber security expert Spoonamore: Elections are insecure
Quote:

A bank would never trust the electronic voting machines in this country if instead of counting ballots, they were counting money. Bank security and cyber-security experts laugh at the lack of oversight and the failures to spot red flags. Meanwhile, our election administrators are running outdated computer platforms that even Microsoft doesn't support anymore.

Stephen Spoonamore made such a compelling case on the Thom Hartman show this morning for scrapping every single electronic voting machine in this country. Spoonamore should know. He was a friend of Mike Connell, who Stephen discovered may have been involved in hacking the 2004 Ohio election results. Spoonamore told Hartman that he asked Connell personally about his involvement and he said he did something very bad for a group of people because -- something to the effect of -- they protect unborn children. Listen to the podcast here.

I keep bringing it up - they still have their fingers on the (virtual) voting machine levers.

AND - they're starting to float 'facts' that could be used to explain a McCain win.

COLUMBUS -- A high-level Republican consultant has been subpoenaed in a case regarding alleged tampering with the 2004 election.

Michael L. Connell was served with a subpoena in Ohio on Sept. 22 in a case alleging that vote-tampering during the 2004 presidential election resulted in civil rights violations. Connell, president of GovTech Solutions and New Media Communications, is a website designer and IT professional who created a website for Ohio’s secretary of state that presented the results of the 2004 election in real time as they were tabulated.

At the time, Ohio’s Secretary of State, Kenneth J. Blackwell, was also chairman of Bush-Cheney 2004 reelection effort in Ohio.

Connell is refusing to testify or to produce documents relating to the system used in the 2004 and 2006 elections, lawyers say. His motion to quash the subpoena asserts that the request for documents is burdensome because the information sought should be “readily ascertainable through public records request” – but also, paradoxically, because “it seeks confidential, trade secrets, and/or proprietary information” that “have independent economic value” and “are not known to the public, or even to non-designated personnel within or working for Mr. Connell’s business.”

According to sources close to the office of Clifford Arnebeck, one of the Ohio attorneys who brought the case, Arnebeck intends to ask the court to compel Connell to testify. An emergency conference with the judge, originally scheduled for Monday, is to be rescheduled.

This is a good point, but if anything it means Obama's support is being underestimated, since those people who only have cell phones are generally younger, and that demographic breaks heavily towards Obama. However, most of the better polls factor the cell phone effect in by weighting the demographics accordingly. It's an inexact science, though.
