Danged Idjit kept the yoke hauled back , never let 'er run on the step , just kept plowin' !

PS: When an airplane is headed directly at you... RUN out of the way !

Perhaps it was overloaded with a rear CG?

Too many golf clubs?

That plane just about took his head off. Note the broken wingtip.

Nah, looks like a classic takeoff departure stall. Never got up enough airspeed to fly, but was able to yank it up into the ground effects cushion and when that gave out so did his lift.

'Cause that's what happens when you keep the yoke hauled back and just keep plowing with the aft section of the floats...If you never run with the floats on step , you'll never break enough hydrodynamic suction off the floats to
achieve sufficient airspeed for flying...
He was doing just a high-speed taxi , in a high-drag condition...

The airplane likely had sufficient water available to achieve the airspeed , but with inappropriate technique , the crew bunged a perfectly good airplane...

If you re-watch the video , you'll see that his floats are spraying roostertails and dragging big wakes from the beginning and through the entire time the craft is on the water...

It would have been better if he had popped the first notch of flap and just relaxed the back pressure , then the floats would've had a better chance to run on step with lower hydrodynamic drag...

Failing that , he still could have aborted the takeoff run at any time prior to liftoff , and all the drag he was making on the water would have slowed the airplane rapidly...

He was probably showing off , and fixated on the cameraman . Target fixation has been often known to cause competent fighter pilots to fly straight into the ground , so an inexperienced seaplane pilot like this one could easily bung a takeoff for the same cause...

Betcha NTSB ruled " pilot error , due to inappropriate takeoff technique ". There may have been a secondary cause associated with the " hey y'all , watch this " factor...

Yep , looks like he caught that wingtip just after he settled the left float atop the fence...

One of the principle rules of flight is : 'Thou shalt not commit bendage upon thy aircraft without good cause.'

This yokel didn't have good cause...

The early airdromes were usually laid out as big round patches of grass , to facilitate takeoffs and landings into the wind any time...

It's still not a bad idea...

This guy didn't bother to keep his landing surface below his flying machine , which is always a good idea until a positive rate of climb is achieved and there's a fair amount of altitude beneath the craft...

Looks like the liftoff was forced , below Vmc , and that ain't hardly got a skosh of turning out well...

As for airplanes and water mixing , from my personal experience , it's the most fun a man can have while his pants are still on , supposing the aircraft is equipped for more than a single water landing...

Whenever I get back from an afternoon of 'water flying' , it takes hours to remove the grin , and it just about takes a chisel...

Skinny dipping out of an airplane...Now that's the definition of freedom !

One of the comical things that often happens after landing in the water is that the reubens usually show up with their polak watercraft (jetskis) and ask , " Do y'all need some help ? Are y'all all right ? Can we tow ya ? "
