Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Today, something occurred at work that made me wonder if I'm much better than the officers who conspired to get one of their own out of a traffic accident infraction.

A coworker made an error at work, and they had left for the day by the time it was noticed. I was contacted to help resolve the problem. I found the mistake and corrected it. Then I explained to the affected parties (other coworkers) that the error was due more to ergonomics and application design than anything else. On the software we use, the button to make the mistake is directly adjacent to the correct button that should be clicked. Everyone was happy with this explanation, and the day progressed without incident.

However, what I said was a complete fabrication designed to minimize attention to the coworker who made the error.

Is that wrong?

The SWAT team is on its way.

Actually, your job it to immediately arrest all coworkers who conspired to commit felony obstruction of justice.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Yes, you're a terrible cop. But a decent human being.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

You fixed the problem.

If you were a bad cop you would have left the problem unfixed, then later conspired with said co-worker to prove:
1) there was no problem
2) besides, someone else did it.

And then you'd have held them down, maced them in the face, and tasered their nuts. If you were an Oakland cop, you might have also shot them in the back. And if you were a cop in Cambridge, Massachusetts, you might have then arrested them for disorderly conduct for bleeding on your boots.

Yes, because it offends Hero's sensibilities. It is actionable on many levels. Possibly a mistermeaner.

Ummm... Rue? I just re-read my post, and it looks like I'm saying 'YOU' would do those things. I thought the "If you were a bad cop..." part was implied, but it doesn't read that way.

So sorry 'bout that - definitely DID NOT mean that YOU would do any of those things. I know you to be a better, more gentle soul than that! Okay, so maybe you'll metaphorically leave 'em bleeding now and again, but that's all in the game!
