Buell 1125s for around $6000--or less. Harley-Davidson is paying Buell dealers $5000 for every Buell they sell.

VEEEEERRRRRRRYYYYY tempting...

There's still that part of me that really, really wants another donorcycle - er, I mean murdercycle - um, I mean MOTORCYCLE!

And I kinda like the Buells. Good luck with parts and service, thoug, once the dealerships are gone.

Hello,

I've often yearned for one of those three or four wheel bike things, where my lack of balance would be less of an issue. :-)

Yanno, if they built a decent product that was actually reliable and people could afford they wouldn't have this problem.

Mikey can tell you much about the cars, but from the NQ-50 Spree and it's itty bitty 50cc all the way up to the CN-250 and the Helixx, Honda made some damned well engineered bikes once upon a time, SO indestructible that if you bring me a Spree, Elite, Dio, Express, etc - THAT EVER RAN AT ALL, I can roll it out in a couple days ready to ride, up to and including having sat in a flooded basement for a couple weeks.

Gimme a couple more days and some performance parts and you'll be shitting bricks when you crank the throttle - remember, I got a 1976 Puch Maxi that can nail 61 MPH, right ?

I know a couple guys with US made bikes, and underneath of every one is a freakin puddle caused by the vibration grinding up seals, which strikes me as piss poor engineering no matter how you wanna excuse it.

Oh, and Anthony ?
Check out the Can-Am Spyder - it's not as cheap as I would like, and I prefer the Honda Gold Wing Trikes but I sure ain't payin what they want for those on average.

I'll admit the two-wheel-front design is much safer and more stable, but imma old school trike pusher, don't you know.
(This is my hand built personal, but I snapped the axle and blew the differential last year, and it was a specialty made unit, and a damn antique when I built the thing, so alas, alas...)

Fair warning though, a single-front trike drives like NOTHING else on the road, and handles very differently than a motorcycle or a car - and if you do not take note of this and retrain accordingly IT WILL KILL YOU, your own motorcycle reflexes will do you in, it happens far too often for my liking so I felt I would mention it.

Oh, and just for kicks, when was the last time you saw THIS much mileage on a puny little 50cc ?

Harley is still selling the MV Augustas at $120,000 each. Or $100-million for the company.

Too bad HD hated their own sportbikes.

Buell "won" the "AMA" Sportbike series this year, by bribing NASCRAP to ignore the rules and allow 1125 cc Buells with modified suspension to compete in the 600 cc class for stock suspension. Cheat on Sunday, bankrupt on Monday.

But that's still an awesome deal on a 1125. If you like to manufacturer your own parts. Engine made in Europe. Bits made in Taiwan. Slower than a Jap or Brit 600.

Anthony, have a look at the Piaggio. I've seen a few around Austin, and the look pretty freakin' cool.

Frem, what can you do with a Honda Ruckus? A buddy of mine just picked one up for the hell of it, and of course he's already going apeshit modifying it. Go figure. ;)

Mikey ?

Piggy also makes that in a Hybrid, I kid not.

But you bring me one of THOSE to work on, imma beat you up in lieu of payin me, Piggy-Vespa-Ciao are a fekkin NIGHTMARE to work on, and getting parts for less than retail is just about impossible - they're actually cheaper to strip for parts and buy a new one than fix!

Frem, what can you do with a Honda Ruckus?

How fast does he WANT it to go ?

All the Honda Scoot engines are prettymuch the same, and depending on just how much $$$ he wants to drop on it, I could get him up to 70 MPH, which is flat out insane since the build frame prolly couldn't handle it for long.

Tell him to check out DIOSpeedDemon's channel on Youtube for a ton of free, useful info regarding that kinda thing.

Really you don't wanna take one of those little things past about 45-50 MPH cause they get REALLY hard to handle, every flaw in the balance and build is magnified and a little unnoticed wobble at 32 MPH gets run up exponentially and will throw you into the bushes at 50 MPH, you see ?

And the brakes, hoo lordy the brakes - I got custom metal flake racing pads I had to order from fekkin Netherland on that Puch, with SAWA racing tires and it STILL takes a good long while to stop once you got it rockin and a rollin.

Heheh, though it still looks like a beat up stock bike with a cheap performance pipe on it, actually a proma circuit I repainted to look like junk - unless you look REAL close and see that custom Newport engine and Airsal cylinder on there, but from six feet or more off, it looks like junk.

Oh hell, Don't get me started, I gotta get ready for work soon, lol !

Modest to a fault , Anthony !

Seems to me you're one of the more balanced folk hereabouts , as a rule...

Oh , and Frem , I've wondered for a longish time what you think of the Piaggio scooters...

The hell if imma ride that, especially given the decline in quality brought on by outsourcing their manufacturing to folks without a clue!

Gimme a SAAB 340B - their cars are shit, but that's a damn decent plane, roomy, NICE seats, reliable as a thrown rock.

Well, there is *one* SAAB car I like - but it's a SAAB only by dint of a bit of "badge engineering". The 9-2x.

What's to like about it? Well, if you couldn't tell from the pic, it's a Subaru Imprezza WRX at heart, complete with 240-260hp and all-wheel drive. Only it's been spruced up a bit inside, and is actually fairly luxurious AND sporty. Car&Driver reckoned it was worth the $10,000 premium over the Subaru version, but buyers didn't seem to agree, so it was killed off. But you can pick them up used for LESS than a Subaru WRX, and they're every bit as much a performance bargain, only the SAAB version is a nicer place to be.

By the way, SAAB is in negotiations to be bought out by a privately-owned Swedish carmaker, Koenigsegg, who currently build the Koenigsegg CCX, one of the world's fastest production cars.

Yeah, I'm 43, and my dad has not told me what to do since I joined the army in 1985. When I mentioned to him that I was wanting to buy a motorcycle, he basically said "No"! I guess I'm not getting one!
