Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

My flight for the Gulf leaves at midnight tonight. Excited, nervous and running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Amusingly, half of me doesn't want to go! I love my life; the only thing missing is about a million dollars so Jim could quit working and I could hire a maid, but other than that, I can't think of anything that would make it better. I've been with the huskies virtually 24/7 since I got them, so I'm going to have major husky-withdrawals, and I haven't slept indoors in years except for one or two times which necessitated it. Waking up out there is one of my biggest joys, so two weeks in a hotel...yuck! Then there's the heat, the humidity, and my not knowing how my bod will hold up...

But yeah, I'm equally excited. Again amusingly, one of the biggest thrills is that I have two layovers, which means FOUR takeoffs--I LOVE takeoffs. Given I spent so much time flying as a kid, and more than a bit sleeping on airport couches 'cuz we were always on standby, just BEING in an airport is fun for me, much less actually GOING somewhere!

Long trip, 7 hours with layovers over 2 hours each, but shorter for me than for Bonnie, and Kat is driving from Atlanta, so 7 hours in a car for her.

Every morning we get "ferried" out to the site by airboat, which has Kat and I really excited--neither of us has ever been on one. Kat joked that "yeah, after a few days it'll be 'oh, shit, airboat AGAIN?'" We'll be old timers by then!

I'm all packed...most of the space taken by the damned boot, the splint and all my various braces...and numerous books. I'm going to be spending a lot of time outside the room, because of Bonnie and smoking, and it'll all be spent on uploading photos, getting on the internet to come here, or reading. Be good for me not to watch TV for a while, maybe I can forget about how much politics and the state of the country piss me off!!!

Not taking anything but sarongs, halter tops and shorts; been watching the weather, high 80s and 90s...although we're in a "heat wave" too, with similar temps, there's no humidity...so it'll be tough. Got lots of mozzie cream, given they think I'm the next best thing to sliced bread!

So I won't be checking in again until I get there...maybe not until Monday afternoon. Get there, pick up rental car, drive to hotel, settle in, Kat thinks she can get there before I go back to N.O. to pick up Bonnie so SHE can settle in, then I drive back to the airport, pick up Bonnie, back to the hotel and by then I'll probably be too pooped for anything else. There's a two-hour time difference, so Bonnie and I will have to get used to that, which means we'll both probably be messes for the first couple of days!

So I don't expect enough energy/time to upload pix here until after the first day's work (probably a good thing, as I'll have nothing to post until then anyway); meanwhile, be nice to each other (hahahahaha) and I'll "see" you then.

****Note****(I am well aware that most of the Muslims in my example are most likely Indian and not Islamic at all, however I choose to ignore the propaganda that there is a difference and clump all rattled tongue speaking sand dwellers together....for the sake of arguement ...You know, If it looks like a duck...)

Nice Kane; everyone appreciates how you wish for my death in order to have a good laugh.

Has nothing to do with animals. I'm helping 400 other people plant marsh grass to restore/strengthen the stuff ruined by the gusherfuck.

I'll tell the Gulf residents that you think it's "all over", they'll be pleased to hear that!

This post was to the wonderful people who've made it possible for me to help out down there, not you. Go bug some other thread.
