Wow, I can't believe he got it. What do you think he'll be able to do in this position?

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul has been appointed to head the Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee in the 112th Congress. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over monetary policy, currency, commodity prices, and matters related to the Federal Reserve Bank generally...

...As chairman, Paul expects to hold regular hearings with Federal Reserve Bank officials, including Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. He also plans to solicit testimony from prominent economists concerning both monetary policy generally and Fed actions in particular.

Hello,

My guess?

Nothing. If the position had any power, he wouldn't be holding it.

Get stonewalled while being held up as a token effort, as usual - but that doesn't mean he might not find a way to slide a knife in regardless, he's a clever old coot...

It does kinda depress me that Rand is using up all of his political "credit" and despoiling the family name, which *does* come back on Ron whether he supports the little punk or not.

He will accomplish this: he'll keep someone else out of the position.

LOLOL. Good point.

And yes, Frem, I agree about Rand. Rolling eyes. It's so funny to see Ron so proud of his son, but I keeping thinking inside, "He's not a quarter of the man you are, Ron."

I agree with everyone (PN being the obvious exception; to him I would say "Been there, done that, didn't work, remember?"), especially

Essentially: First do no harm!

Let's see if he can parlay it into any actual actions; personally, I doubt it. Neat, tho'.

My bet? He'll come around to the Fed's way of thinking. Doesn't everyone? They want to seize the reins of power to set things right - only when they actually get their hands on those reins, they find that they LIKE the feeling that power gives them, and will do literally ANYTHING to keep it.

Why do you think it was offered to him? That's his price.

I'll bet anyone here 100 billion dollars right now that Ron Paul *will not* end the Federal Reserve system. Hell, he won't even get a halfway decent audit of it, because if he pushes hard on any of those issues, his plane will mysteriously go down...

I think they have much easier ways of stopping him that disappearing his plane. I'm not sure Paul would be easy to prostitute, but I'm definitely sure he wouldn't be able to do what he might want...especially end the Fed!

@Niki - That was a bit of a snark based on the alleged downings of the planes of Ron Brown and Paul Wellstone. I'm surprised the righties around here haven't blamed Obama for downing Ted Stevens's plane... Oh, great - I just gave them an idea!
